Concerning other things, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is certainly not tiresome for me to write the same things to you, but for you, it is not necessary.1 Finally, brothers, I wish you joy in the Lord. To write to you what I have already written before is notrouble to me and to you will be a protection.
Beware of dogs; beware of those who work evil; beware of those who are divisive.2 Beware of dogs! Beware of evil workmen! Beware of self-mutilators!
For we are the circumcised, we who serve God in the Spirit and who glory in Christ Jesus, having no confidence in the flesh.3 We are the true people of the circumcision since we worship by the Spirit of God and make Christ Jesusour only boast, not relying on physical qualifications,
Nevertheless, I might have confidence also in the flesh, for if anyone else seems to have confidence in the flesh, more so do I.4 although, I myself could rely on these too. If anyone does claim to rely on them, my claim is better.
For I was circumcised on the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, from the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew among Hebrews. According to the law, I was a Pharisee;5 Circumcised on the eighth day of my life, I was born of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, aHebrew born of Hebrew parents. In the matter of the Law, I was a Pharisee;
according to zeal, I persecuted the Church of God; according to the justice that is in the law, I lived without blame.6 as for religious fervour, I was a persecutor of the Church; as for the uprightness embodied in the Law, Iwas faultless.
But the things which had been to my gain, the same have I considered a loss, for the sake of Christ.7 But what were once my assets I now through Christ Jesus count as losses.
Yet truly, I consider everything to be a loss, because of the preeminent knowledge of Jesus Christ, my Lord, for whose sake I have suffered the loss of everything, considering it all to be like dung, so that I may gain Christ,8 Yes, I wil go further: because of the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, I counteverything else as loss. For him I have accepted the loss of al other things, and look on them all as filth if only Ican gain Christ
and so that you may be found in him, not having my justice, which is of the law, but that which is of the faith of Christ Jesus, the justice within faith, which is of God.9 and be given a place in him, with the uprightness I have gained not from the Law, but through faith inChrist, an uprightness from God, based on faith,
So shall I know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his Passion, having been fashioned according to his death,10 that I may come to know him and the power of his resurrection, and partake of his sufferings by beingmoulded to the pattern of his death,
if, by some means, I might attain to the resurrection which is from the dead.11 striving towards the goal of resurrection from the dead.
It is not as though I have already received this, or were already perfect. But rather I pursue, so that by some means I might attain, that in which I have already been attained by Christ Jesus.12 Not that I have secured it already, nor yet reached my goal, but I am stil pursuing it in the attempt totake hold of the prize for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have already attained this. Instead, I do one thing: forgetting those things that are behind, and extending myself toward those things that are ahead,13 Brothers, I do not reckon myself as having taken hold of it; I can only say that forgetting al that liesbehind me, and straining forward to what lies in front,
I pursue the destination, the prize of the heavenly calling of God in Christ Jesus.14 I am racing towards the finishing-point to win the prize of God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus.
Therefore, as many of us as are being perfected, let us agree about this. And if in anything you disagree, God will reveal this to you also.15 So this is the way in which al of us who are mature should be thinking, and if you are still thinkingdifferently in any way, then God has yet to make this matter clear to you.
Yet truly, whatever point we reach, let us be of the same mind, and let us remain in the same rule.16 Meanwhile, let us go forward from the point we have each attained.
Be imitators of me, brothers, and observe those who are walking similarly, just as you have seen by our example.17 Brothers, be united in imitating me. Keep your eyes fixed on those who act according to the exampleyou have from me.
For many persons, about whom I have often told you (and now tell you, weeping,) are walking as enemies of the cross of Christ.18 For there are so many people of whom I have often warned you, and now I warn you again with tearsin my eyes, who behave like the enemies of Christ's cross.
Their end is destruction; their god is their belly; and their glory is in their shame: for they are immersed in earthly things.19 They are destined to be lost; their god is the stomach; they glory in what they should think shameful, since their minds are set on earthly things.
But our way of life is in heaven. And from heaven, too, we await the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ,20 But our homeland is in heaven and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord JesusChrist,
who will transform the body of our lowliness, according to the form of the body of his glory, by means of that power by which he is even able to subject all things to himself.21 who wil transfigure the wretched body of ours into the mould of his glorious body, through the workingof the power which he has, even to bring all things under his mastery.
