2 Corinthians 2

1 But I determined this within myself, not to return again to you in sorrow.	1 Je décidai donc en moi-même de ne pas revenir chez vous dans la tristesse.
2 For if I make you sorrowful, then who is it that can make me glad, except the one who is made sorrowful by me?	2 Car si c'est moi qui vous attriste, qui peut alors me donner de la joie sinon celui que j'auraiattristé?
3 And so, I wrote this same thing to you, so that I might not, when I arrive, add sorrow to sorrow for those with whom I ought to rejoice, having confidence in you in all things, so that my joy may be entirely yours.	3 Et si j'ai écrit ce que vous savez, c'était pour ne pas éprouver de tristesse, en venant, du fait deceux qui devraient me donner de la joie, persuadé à l'égard de vous tous que ma joie est aussi la vôtre, à voustous.
4 For with much tribulation and anguish of heart, I wrote to you with many tears: not so that you would be sorrowful, but so that you might know the charity that I have more abundantly toward you.	4 Oui, c'est dans une grande tribulation et angoisse de coeur que je vous ai écrit, parmi bien deslarmes, non pour que vous soyez attristés, mais pour que vous sachiez l'extrême affection que je vous porte.
5 But if anyone has brought sorrow, he has not sorrowed me. Yet, for my part, this is so that I might not burden all of you.	5 Que si quelqu'un a causé de la tristesse, ce n'est pas à moi qu'il en a causé; c'est, dans unecertaine mesure (n'exagérons rien), à vous tous.
6 Let this rebuke be sufficient for someone like this, for it has been brought by many.	6 C'est assez pour cet homme-là du châtiment infligé par la majorité,
7 So then, to the contrary, you should be more forgiving and consoling, lest perhaps someone like this may be overwhelmed with excessive sorrow.	7 en sorte qu'il vaut mieux au contraire lui pardonner et l'encourager, de peur que cet homme-làne vienne à sombrer dans une tristesse excessive.
8 Because of this, I beg you to confirm your charity toward him.	8 C'est pourquoi je vous exhorte à faire prévaloir envers lui la charité.
9 It was for this reason, also, that I wrote, so that I might know, by testing you, whether you would be obedient in all things.	9 Aussi bien, en écrivant, je ne me proposais que de vous mettre à l'épreuve et de voir si vousêtes en tous points obéissants.
10 But anyone whom you have forgiven of anything, I also forgive. And then, too, anyone I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, it was done in the person of Christ for your sakes,	10 Mais à qui vous pardonnez, je pardonne aussi; car, si j'ai pardonné - pour autant que j'ai eu àpardonner - c'est à cause de vous, en présence du Christ.
11 so that we would not be circumvented by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his intentions.	11 Il ne s'agit pas d'être dupes de Satan, car nous n'ignorons pas ses desseins.
12 And when I had arrived at Troas, because of the Gospel of Christ, and a door had opened to me in the Lord,	12 J'arrivai donc à Troas pour l'Evangile du Christ, et bien qu'une porte me fût ouverte dans leSeigneur,
13 I had no rest within my spirit, because I was not able to find Titus, my brother. So, saying goodbye to them, I set out for Macedonia.	13 mon esprit n'eut point de repos, parce que je ne trouvai pas Tite, mon frère. Je pris donccongé d'eux et partis pour la Macédoine.
14 But thanks be to God, who always brings triumph to us in Christ Jesus, and who manifests the fragrance of his knowledge through us in every place.	14 Grâces soient à Dieu qui, dans le Christ, nous emmène sans cesse dans son triomphe et qui,par nous, répand en tous lieux le parfum de sa connaissance.
15 For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ for God, both with those who are being saved and with those who are perishing.	15 Car nous sommes bien, pour Dieu, la bonne odeur du Christ parmi ceux qui se sauvent etparmi ceux qui se perdent;
16 To the one, certainly, the fragrance is of death unto death. But to the other, the fragrance is of life unto life. And concerning these things, who is so suitable?	16 pour les uns, une odeur qui de la mort conduit à la mort; pour les autres, une odeur qui de lavie conduit à la vie. Et de cela qui est capable?
17 For we are not like many others, adulterating the Word of God. But instead, we speak with sincerity: from God, before God, and in Christ.	17 Nous ne sommes pas, en effet, comme la plupart, qui frelatent la parole de Dieu; non, c'est entoute pureté, c'est en envoyés de Dieu que, devant Dieu, nous parlons dans le Christ.
