1 In those days, as the number of disciples was increasing, there occurred a murmuring of the Greeks against the Hebrews, because their widows were treated with disdain in the daily ministration.	1 In diesen Tagen, als die Zahl der Jünger zunahm, begehrten die Hellenisten gegen die Hebräer auf, weil ihre Witwen bei der täglichen Versorgung übersehen wurden.
2 And so the twelve, calling together the multitude of the disciples, said: “It is not fair for us to leave behind the Word of God to serve at tables also.	2 Da riefen die Zwölf die ganze Schar der Jünger zusammen und erklärten: Es ist nicht recht, dass wir das Wort Gottes vernachlässigen und uns dem Dienst an den Tischen widmen.
3 Therefore, brothers, search among yourselves for seven men of good testimony, filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom, whom we may appoint over this work.	3 Brüder, wählt aus eurer Mitte sieben Männer von gutem Ruf und voll Geist und Weisheit; ihnen werden wir diese Aufgabe übertragen.
4 Yet truly, we will be continually in prayer and in the ministry of the Word.”	4 Wir aber wollen beim Gebet und beim Dienst am Wort bleiben.
5 And the plan pleased the entire multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and with the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a new arrival from Antioch.	5 Der Vorschlag fand den Beifall der ganzen Gemeinde, und sie wählten Stephanus, einen Mann, erfüllt vom Glauben und vom Heiligen Geist, ferner Philippus und Prochorus, Nikanor und Timon, Parmenas und Nikolaus, einen Proselyten aus Antiochia.
6 These they set before the sight of the Apostles, and while praying, they imposed hands on them.	6 Sie ließen sie vor die Apostel hintreten und diese beteten und legten ihnen die Hände auf.
7 And the Word of the Lord was increasing, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem was multiplied exceedingly. And even a large group of the priests were obedient to the faith.	7 Und das Wort Gottes breitete sich aus und die Zahl der Jünger in Jerusalem wurde immer größer; auch eine große Anzahl von den Priestern nahm gehorsam den Glauben an.
8 Then Stephen, filled with grace and fortitude, wrought great signs and miracles among the people.	8 Stephanus aber, voll Gnade und Kraft, tat Wunder und große Zeichen unter dem Volk.
9 But certain ones, from the synagogue of the so-called Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those who were from Cilicia and Asia rose up and were disputing with Stephen.	9 Doch einige von der sogenannten Synagoge der Libertiner und Zyrenäer und Alexandriner und Leute aus Zilizien und der Provinz Asien erhoben sich, um mit Stephanus zu streiten;
10 But they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.	10 aber sie konnten der Weisheit und dem Geist, mit dem er sprach, nicht widerstehen.
11 Then they suborned men who were to claim that they had heard him speaking words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.	11 Da stifteten sie Männer zu der Aussage an: Wir haben gehört, wie er gegen Mose und Gott lästerte.
12 And thus did they stir up the people and the elders and the scribes. And hurrying together, they seized him and brought him to the council.	12 Sie hetzten das Volk, die Ältesten und die Schriftgelehrten auf, drangen auf ihn ein, packten ihn und schleppten ihn vor den Hohen Rat.
13 And they set up false witnesses, who said: “This man does not cease to speak words against the holy place and the law.	13 Und sie brachten falsche Zeugen bei, die sagten: Dieser Mensch hört nicht auf, gegen diesen heiligen Ort und das Gesetz zu reden.
14 For we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and will change the traditions, which Moses handed down to us.”	14 Wir haben ihn nämlich sagen hören: Dieser Jesus, der Nazoräer, wird diesen Ort zerstören und die Bräuche ändern, die uns Mose überliefert hat.
15 And all those who were sitting in the council, gazing at him, saw his face, as if it had become the face of an Angel.	15 Und als alle, die im Hohen Rat saßen, auf ihn blickten, erschien ihnen sein Gesicht wie das Gesicht eines Engels.
