1 “And so, having turned back, we ascended by the way of Bashan. And Og, the king of Bashan, went forth with his people to meet us in warfare at Edrei.	1 Après un détour, nous avons pris la route du Bashan. Og, roi du Bashan, vint à notre rencontre à Édréï pour combattre avec tout son peuple.
2 And the Lord said to me: ‘You should not fear him. For he has been delivered into your hand, with all his people as well as his land. And you shall do to him just as you have done to Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.’	2 Alors Yahvé me dit: “N’aie pas peur! Je te l’ai livré avec tout son peuple et tout son pays. Tu le traiteras comme tu as traité Sihon, roi des Amorites, qui habitait à Heshbon.”
3 Therefore, the Lord our God delivered into our hands, now Og, the king of Bashan, and all his people. And we struck them down unto utter annihilation,	3 Yahvé notre Dieu nous livra donc Og, roi du Bashan, et tout son peuple. Nous l’avons écrasé au point de ne lui laisser aucun survivant.
4 laying waste to all his cities at one time. There was not a village which escaped from us: sixty cities, the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.	4 Nous avons pris toutes ses villes: des 60 villes de toute la région d’Argob, dans le royaume d’Og de Bashan, pas une seule ne nous a résisté.
5 All the cities were fortified with very high walls, and with gates and bars, in addition to innumerable villages which had no walls.	5 Pourtant, toutes ces villes étaient fortifiées avec de hautes murailles, des portes et des barres. Sans compter les villes non fortifiées qui étaient en très grand nombre.
6 And we wiped them out, just as we had done to Sihon, the king of Heshbon, destroying every city, and its men, as well as women and children.	6 Nous les avons toutes vouées à l’anathème, comme nous l’avions fait pour Sihon, roi de Heshbon, avec les hommes, les femmes et les enfants.
7 But the cattle and the spoils of the cities, we plundered.	7 Mais nous avons gardé pour nous tout le bétail et le butin de ces villes.
8 And at that time, we took the land from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, who were across the Jordan: from the torrent Arnon as far as Mount Hermon,	8 Nous avons donc enlevé dans ce temps-là aux deux rois des Amorites le pays qui est au-delà du Jourdain, depuis le torrent de l’Arnon jusqu’au mont Hermon.
9 which the Sidonians call Sirion, and the Amorites call Senir,	9 (Les habitants de Sidon appellent l’Hermon, Siryon, mais les Amorites l’appellent Sénir.)
10 all the cities that are situated in the plain, and the entire land of Gilead and Bashan, all the way to Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.	10 Nous avons donc pris toutes les villes du Haut-Plateau, tout le Galaad et tout le Bashan jusqu’à Salka et Édréï, capitale d’Og de Bashan.
11 For only Og, the king of Bashan, was left behind out of the race of the giants. His bed of iron is on display, (it is in Rabbah, among the sons of Ammon) being nine cubits in length, and four in width, according to the measure of the cubit of a man’s hand.	11 Cet Og de Bashan était resté seul de la race des Réphaïm et c’est son lit de fer long de neuf coudées et large de quatre coudées (des coudées d’homme), qu’on voit encore à Rabba-d’Ammon.
12 And we possessed the land, at that time, from Aroer, which is above the bank of the torrent Arnon, as far as the middle of Mount Gilead. And I gave its cities to Ruben and Gad.	12 En ce temps-là nous avons conquis ce pays. Je l’ai donné à la tribu de Ruben et à la tribu de Gad, depuis Aroër qui est sur le torrent d’Arnon, ainsi que la moitié de la montagne de Galaad avec ses villes.
13 Then I delivered the remaining part of Gilead, and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, which is the entire region of Argob, to one half of the tribe of Manasseh. And all of Bashan is called the land of the giants.	13 J’ai donné à la moitié de la tribu de Manassé le reste de Galaad et tout le Bashan (le royaume d’Og, tout le district d’Argob avec tout le Bashan. On l’appelait alors le pays des Réphaïm).
14 Jair, the son of Manasseh, possessed all the region of Argob, as far as the borders of Geshur and Maacath. And he called Bashan by his own name, Havvoth Jair, that is, the villages of Jair, even to the present day.	14 Yaïr, fils de Manassé, s’empara de tout le district d’Argob, jusqu’à la frontière des Guéchourites et des Maakatites. Aux villages du Bashan il donna son propre nom: on les appelle encore aujourd’hui les Douars de Yaïr.
15 Likewise, to Machir, I gave Gilead.	15 Quant à Makir, je lui ai donné Galaad.
16 And to the tribes of Ruben and Gad, I gave from the land of Gilead as far as the torrent Arnon, one half of the torrent and its confines, even to the torrent Jabbok, which is along the border of the sons of Ammon,	16 À Ruben et à Gad, j’ai donné le Galaad jusqu’au torrent de l’Arnon avec comme frontière: d’un côté, le milieu du torrent, et du côté des Ammonites, le torrent du Yabok.
17 and the plain of the wilderness, as well as the Jordan, and the borders of Chinnereth, all the way to the sea of the desert, which is very salty, to the base of Mount Pisgah toward the east.	17 Je lui ai donné aussi la Araba avec le Jourdain comme frontière, depuis Kinnéret jusqu’à la mer de la Araba qu’on appelle aussi la Mer de Sel, au pied du Pisga à l’est.
18 And I instructed you at that time, saying: ‘The Lord your God gives to you this land as an inheritance. Having armed yourselves, go before your brothers, the sons of Israel, all you strong men.	18 En ce temps-là je vous ai donné des instructions. Je vous ai dit: “Yahvé votre Dieu vous a donné ce pays pour que vous le possédiez. Vous tous, hommes courageux, vous passerez en armes devant vos frères Israélites,
19 Leave behind your wives and little ones, as well as the cattle. For I know that you have many cattle, and they should remain in the cities which I have delivered to you,	19 mais vos femmes, vos petits-enfants et vos troupeaux qui sont, je le sais, très nombreux, resteront dans les villes que je vous ai données.”
20 until the Lord provides rest to your brothers, just as he has provided for you. And they, too, shall possess the land, which he will give to them beyond the Jordan. Then each one shall return to his possession, which I have allotted to you.’	20 Lorsque Yahvé aura donné à vos frères, comme à vous-mêmes, le repos, lorsqu’ils posséderont eux aussi le pays que Yahvé votre Dieu leur donne au-delà du Jourdain, alors chacun de vous pourra retourner dans l’héritage que je vous ai attribué.
21 Likewise, I instructed Joshua at that time, saying: ‘Your eyes have seen what the Lord your God has done to these two kings. So also will he do to all the kingdoms through which you shall pass.	21 En ce temps-là j’ai donné aussi des instructions à Josué. Je lui ai dit: “Tes yeux voient tout ce que Yahvé votre Dieu a fait à ces deux rois. Yahvé fera de même pour tous les royaumes que vous allez traverser.
22 You should not fear them. For the Lord your God will fight on your behalf.’	22 Ne les craignez donc pas, car Yahvé votre Dieu combat pour vous.”
23 And I beseeched the Lord at that time, saying:	23 En ce temps-là j’ai supplié Yahvé:
24 ‘Lord God, you have begun to reveal your greatness and your very strong hand to your servant. For there is no other god, either in heaven or on earth, who is able to accomplish your works, or to be compared to your strength.	24 “Seigneur Yahvé, lui ai-je dit, tu as commencé à montrer à ton serviteur ta grandeur et la puissance de ta main. Quel Dieu dans les cieux ou sur la terre, pourrait faire des œuvres et des exploits semblables aux tiens?
25 Therefore, I will cross over, and I will view this excellent land beyond the Jordan, and this singular mountain, and Lebanon.’	25 Aussi maintenant je voudrais passer et voir le bon pays qui est au-delà du Jourdain, cette belle montagne et le Liban.”
26 And the Lord became angry with me because of you, and he would not heed me. But he said to me: ‘It is enough for you. You shall no longer speak to me at all about this matter.	26 Mais Yahvé s’était fâché contre moi à cause de vous et il ne m’écouta pas. Et Yahvé me dit: “Cela suffit, ne me parle plus de cette affaire!
27 Ascend to the summit of Pisgah, and look around with your eyes to the west, and to the north, and to the south, and to the east, and behold it. For you shall not cross this Jordan.	27 Tu vas monter au sommet du Pisga, et tu porteras ton regard à l’ouest, au nord, au sud et à l’est. Regarde bien, car tu ne traverseras pas ce Jourdain.
28 Instruct Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him. For he shall go before this people, and he shall distribute to them the land that you will see.’	28 Mais donne tes ordres à Josué, encourage-le, rends-le fort: lui passera en tête de ce peuple et le mettra en possession du pays que tu auras vu.”
29 And we remained in the valley, opposite the shrine of Peor.”	29 Après cela, nous sommes restés dans la Vallée en face de Beth-Péor.
