Jeremiah 3

1 “It is commonly said: ‘If a man has divorced his wife, and she departs from him, she will marry another man.’ So why would he return to her again? Is not that woman polluted and defiled? But you have fornicated yourself with many lovers. Even so, return to me, says the Lord, and I will accept you.	1 (Dal popolo) volgarmente si dice: se l'uomo lascia la sua moglie, e partendosi da lui torrà uno altro marito, or tornerae più a lei? or non sarà corrutta e contaminata quella femina? E tu hai fatto fornicazione con molti amatori; ma pure ritorna a me, dice Iddio, e io ti riceverò.
2 Lift your eyes straight up, and see where you did not debase yourself. You were sitting in the roadways, waiting for them, like a robber in the wilderness. And you have polluted the land by your fornications and by your wickedness.	2 Lieva (e alza) li tuoi occhi in diritto, e vedi (e considera) dove tu se' gittata (e abbattuta); tu sedevi nelle vie aspettando loro, come fa lo ladro nel bosco; e hai corrotta la terra colle tue fornicazioni e malizie.
3 For this reason, the rain showers were withheld, and there were no late season rains. You made your face like that of a promiscuous woman; you were not willing to blush.	3 E perciò sono vietate le gocciole della terra, cioè che non piova, e lo vento acquatico serotino non verrà; tu hai fronte (e faccia) di meretrice, e non ti volesti vergognare.
4 Therefore, at least from this moment on, call out to me: ‘You are my father, the guide of my virginity.’	4 Adunque oggi mai mi chiama, e di': padre mio, se' tu guida (e guardia) della mia virginitade.
5 Why should you be angry unceasingly? And will you continue in this to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil, for you were able to do so.”	5 Or ti adirerai in perpetuo, ovver persevererai nella fine? Ecco tu hai parlato, e fatto male, e potesti (bene per parole di penitenza, biastemare con parole di superbia, e ponesti ad effetto la tua mala cogitazione, e mostrasti contro all' uomo la tua fortezza, acciò che tu potessi fare con opera quello che tu trattavi con parole).
6 And, in the days of king Josiah, the Lord said to me: “Have you not seen what the apostate Israel has done? She has brought herself up to every lofty mountain, and she has lain down under every leafy tree, and she has committed fornication there.	6 E disse Iddio a me nel tempo di Iosia re: non hai tu veduto quello che ha fatto la mia avversaria, cioè la casa d' Israel? ella andò in su ogni alto (e grande) monte, e sotto [ogni] arbore fronduto, e ivi commise fornicazione.
7 And when she had done all these things, I said: ‘Return to me.’ But she did not return. And her deceitful sister Judah saw this:	7 E conciosia cosa che avesse fatto tutte queste cose, dissi io ritorni ella a me; ed ella non ritornò. E vide la prevaricatrice sua sorella (casa) di Giuda (cioè ch' ella era simile),
8 that because the apostate Israel had committed adultery, I had dismissed her and had given her a bill of divorce. Yet her deceitful sister Judah was not afraid. But she, too, went and committed fornication herself.	8 che io l' avea abbandonata, però che avea commesso (prevaricazione, ovvero) fornicazione (collo suo corpo e opera di adulterio), e avea a lei dato libello di rifiuto; e non temette la prevaricatrice (casa) di Giuda sua sorella, ma andò an ch' ella, e commise fornicazione.
9 And by the act of her fornication, she defiled the land. For she committed adultery with that which is stone and wood.	9 E colla agevolezza della sua fornicazione si ha contaminata (e corrotta) la terra, e avea peccato colle pietre e colla imagine dello legno (in opera di fornicazione).
10 And after all these things, her deceitful sister Judah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but with lies, says the Lord.”	10 E con tutte queste cose non ha voluto ritornare a me la prevaricatrice sua sorella (la casa) di Giuda con tutto lo suo cuore, ma pure con menzogna, dice Iddio.
11 And the Lord said to me: “The apostate Israel has justified her own soul by comparing herself to the deceitful Judah.	11 E disse Iddio a me: la casa d' Israel prevaricatrice è giustificata, a comparazione della casa di Giuda.
12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and you shall say: Return, O apostate Israel, says the Lord. For I will not avert my face from you. For I am holy, says the Lord, and I will not be angry forever.	12 Va e grida (e di') queste parole inverso la parte d'aquilone: o avversaria casa d' Israel, ritorna, e non nasconderò la mia faccia da voi; però ch' io sono santo, dice Iddio, e non mi adirerò in perpetuo.
13 So then, truly acknowledge your iniquity, that you have betrayed the Lord your God, and that you have spread your ways to strangers, under every leafy tree, and that you have not listened to my voice, says the Lord.	13 Ma io voglio che tu sappi la tua iniquitade, chè tu se' prevaricata (e hai peccato) contro al tuo Signore; e hai sparto le tue vie alli stranieri sotto ogni arbore fronduto, e la mia voce non udisti, dice Iddio.
14 Convert, O rebellious sons, says the Lord. For I am your leader. And so, I will take you, one from a city, and two from a family, and I will lead you into Zion.	14 Ah, figliuoli miei, convertitevi e ritornate a me, dice Iddio; però ch' io sono lo vostro uomo, e io trarrò da voi uno della città, e due del parentado, e menerov vi dentro in Sion.
15 And I will give you pastors according to my own heart. And they will feed you with knowledge and doctrine.	15 E darovvi pastori secondo lo mio volere, e pasceranno voi di scienza e di dottrina.
16 And when you have been multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they will no longer say: ‘The Ark of the covenant of the Lord!’ And it will not enter into the heart, and they will not call it to mind. It will neither be visited, nor made use of, any longer.	16 E quando sarete moltiplicati e cresciuti sopra la terra, dice Iddio, in quello tempo non diranno più: Arca del testamento di Dio; e non salirà sopra lo cuore, e non si ricorderanno di quella, e non sarà visitata, e non si farà più.
17 In that time, Jerusalem will be called: ‘The Throne of the Lord.’ And all the nations will be gathered to it, in the name of the Lord, in Jerusalem. And they will not walk after the depravity of their own most wicked heart.	17 In quel tempo chiameranno Ierusalem Sedia. di Dio; e (allora) si raduneranno a lei tutte le genti in Ierusalem nel nome di Dio, e non anderanno dopo il pravo suo cuore e pessimo.
18 In those days, the house of Judah will go to the house of Israel, and they will come from the land of the north, at the same time, to the land that I gave to your fathers.	18 In quelli dì anderà la casa di Giuda alla casa d' Israel, e verranno insieme dalla terra d'aquilone alla terra che io diedi alli (antichi) padri vostri.
19 But I said: How shall I place you among the sons, and distribute to you a desirable land, the preeminent inheritance of the host of the Gentiles? And I said: You will call me Father, and you will not cease to walk after me.	19 Ma Iddio disse: come ti porrò io in figliuoli, e come ti darò io la terra desiderabile, ereditate molto (bella e molto) chiara dello esercito delle genti? E io dissi: tu mi chiamerai padre, e non cesserai (di venire e) d' entrare di drieto da me.
20 But, in the same way that a woman spurns her lover, so also has the house of Israel spurned me, says the Lord.”	20 Ma come se la femina dispregia (e hae per niente) lo suo amadore, così m' hae dispregiato (e avuto per niente) la casa d' Israel, dice lo Signore Iddio.
21 A voice has been heard in the highways, the weeping and wailing of the sons of Israel. For they have made their own ways sinful; they have forgotten the Lord their God.	21 La voce è udita per le vie, (cioè) pianto e grande ululare de' figliuoli d' Israel; però che hanno menata la loro via iniqua (e malvagia), e hanno dimenticato lo loro Signore Iddio.
22 “Convert, O rebellious sons! And I will heal your rebelliousness.” “Behold, we are returning to you. For you are the Lord our God!	22 O figliuoli, convertitevi e ritornate a Dio, e sanerò le vostre avversitadi (e le vostre tribulazioni). Ecco noi vegniamo a te; però che tu se' nostro Signore Iddio.
23 Truly, the hills were liars, with the multitude of the mountains. Truly, the salvation of Israel is in the Lord our God.	23 Veramente bugiardi erano li colli e la moltitudine de' monti; veramente che la salute d'Israel è nel nostro Signore Iddio.
24 Confusion has devoured the labor of our fathers, from our youth, with their flocks and their herds, with their sons and their daughters.	24 La confusione divorò (e mangiò) la fatica de' nostri padri dalla nostra giovinezza, le greggie loro e li armenti loro, e li loro figliuoli e le loro figliuole (si mangiò e divorò la confusione).
25 We will sleep in our confusion, and our disgrace will cover us. For we have sinned against the Lord our God: we and our fathers, from our youth, even to this day. And we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God.”	25 Dormiremo nella nostra confusione, e la nostra abominazione ci coprirà; però che peccammo al nostro Iddio, noi e li padri nostri, dalla nostra giovinezza insino a questo dì d'oggi; e noi non udimmo (nè udire volemmo) la voce (e la dottrina) del nostro Signore Iddio.
