Jeremiah 25

1 The word that came to Jeremiah about all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah. The same is the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon.	1 Voici la parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie en la quatrième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda; on était dans la première année de Nabukodonozor roi de Babylone.
2 And the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying:	2 Le prophète Jérémie prononça ces paroles devant le peuple de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem.
3 “From the thirteenth year of Josiah, the son of Amon, the king of Judah, even until this day, which is the twenty-third year, the word of the Lord has been given to me, and I have spoken to you, rising while it was still night, and speaking, and yet you have not listened.	3 Depuis la treizième année de Josias fils d’Amon, roi de Juda, et jusqu’à ce jour, soit pendant 23 ans, la parole de Yahvé m’a été adressée; je vous l’ai dite sans me lasser, mais vous n’avez pas écouté.
4 And the Lord has sent to you all his servants, the prophets, rising at first light, and sending, and yet you have not listened, and you have not inclined your ears, so that you would hear,	4 (Yahvé aussi, sans se lasser, vous a envoyé ses serviteurs les prophètes, mais vous n’avez pas écouté, vous n’avez pas prêté l’oreille pour entendre.)
5 when he said: Return, each one from his evil way, and from your wicked thoughts. And you shall dwell in the land, which the Lord has given to you and to your fathers, from ancient times and even forever.	5 Voici ce qu’était cette parole: “Que chacun revienne de sa mauvaise conduite et de ses actions mauvaises; alors vous habiterez sur la terre que Yahvé vous a donnée, à vous et à vos pères, depuis toujours et pour toujours.
6 And do not choose to go after strange gods, so that you would serve them and adore them. And do not provoke me to wrath by the works of your hands. And then I will not afflict you.	6 Mais ne suivez pas d’autres dieux, ne les servez pas, ne vous prosternez pas devant eux; ne me mettez pas en colère avec ces choses qui sont sorties de vos mains, et moi, je ne vous ferai pas de mal.
7 And yet you have not listened to me, says the Lord, and so you have provoked me to anger with the works of your hands, to your own harm.”	7 Mais vous ne m’avez pas écouté - parole de Yahvé. Vous m’avez irrité pour votre malheur avec ces choses sorties de vos mains.
8 Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Since you have not listened to my words,	8 C’est pourquoi, voici ce qu’a dit Yahvé Sabaot: Parce que vous n’avez pas écouté mes paroles,
9 behold, I will send for and take all the associates of the north, says the Lord, and Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will lead them over this land, and over its inhabitants, and over all the nations that are around it. And I will destroy them, and I will set them in the midst of stupor and hissing, and continual desolations.	9 j’envoie chercher un peuple du nord. Je le fais venir contre ce pays et ses habitants, et je leur jette la malédiction, et pour toujours ce sera la désolation, ce seront des ruines, juste de quoi se moquer.
10 And I will perish from them the voice of gladness and the voice of rejoicing, the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstone and the light of the lamp.	10 Je ferai disparaître de chez eux le bruit des fêtes et de la joie, la voix de l’époux et de l’épouse, le bruit de la meule et la lumière de la lampe.
11 And this entire land will be in desolation and in stupor. And all these nations will serve the king of Babylon, for seventy years.	11 Tout ce pays ne sera plus que ruines et désolation, et ils seront esclaves parmi les nations pour 70 ans.
12 And when the seventy years have been completed, I will visit their iniquity upon the king of Babylon, and upon that nation, and upon the land of the Chaldeans, says the Lord. And I will set it in continual desolations.	12 Mais quand s’achèveront ces 70 années, je demanderai des comptes à la nation des Kaldéens et j’en ferai une ruine éternelle.
13 And I will lead over that land all my words, which I have spoken against it, all that has been written in this book, everything whatsoever that Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.	13 Ainsi j’accomplirai contre ce pays toutes les paroles que j’ai prononcées contre lui, tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre, tout ce que Jérémie a prophétisé sur toutes les nations.
14 For they have served them, though these were populous nations and great kings. And I will repay them according to their works and according to the deeds of their hands.”	14 Car de grandes nations, avec de grands rois, les soumettront à leur tour, et je leur rendrai selon leurs actes, selon l’œuvre de leurs mains.
15 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Take the chalice of the wine of this fury from my hand. And you shall cause all the nations, to which I will send you, to drink from it.	15 Voici ce que Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, me dit: Reçois de ma main cette coupe de vin, cette coupe de ma colère, et fais-la boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles je t’enverrai.
16 And they will drink, and be stirred up, and become maddened, before the face of the sword that I will send among them.”	16 Quand elles auront bu, elles trébucheront et seront prises de vertige ( ).
17 And I received the chalice from the hand of the Lord, and I caused all the nations, to which the Lord has sent me, to drink from it:	17 Alors je pris la coupe de la main de Yahvé et je la fis boire à toutes les nations vers lesquelles Yahvé m’envoyait:
18 Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and its kings, and its leaders, so that I gave them over to desolation, and stupor, and hissing, and a curse, just as it is this day.	18 (à Jérusalem et aux villes de Juda, comme à ses rois et à ses chefs, pour qu’elles deviennent une solitude, une ruine, un objet de moquerie).
19 “But as for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and his servants, and his leaders, and all his people,	19 Je la fis boire à Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, à ses serviteurs, à ses chefs et à tout son peuple,
20 and the entire populace in general: all the kings of the land of the south, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,	20 et à tous les gens de l’ouest. Puis je la passai ( ) aux rois du pays des Philistins, Ashkélon, Gaza, Ékron, et ce qui reste encore d’Ashdod.
21 and Idumea, and Moab, and the sons of Ammon,	21 Puis à Édom, Moab et les fils d’Ammon,
22 and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the land of the islands that are across the sea,	22 les rois de Tyr, les rois de Sidon, les rois des îles qui sont au-delà de la mer,
23 and Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all those who have shaved off their hair,	23 Dédan, Téma, Bouz, tous les hommes aux tempes rasées,
24 and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the west, who live in the desert,	24 ( ) qui habitent le désert.
25 and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media,	25 Puis je la fis boire aux rois de Zimri, les rois d’Élam et de Médie,
26 and likewise, all the kings of the north from near to far, each one facing his brother, and all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth, and the king of Sesac: all these shall drink after them.	26 les rois du nord, proches ou lointains, l’un après l’autre, et tous les royaumes de la terre ( ).
27 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, and be inebriated, and vomit, and fall down. And you shall not rise up before the face the sword that I will send among you.	27 Tu leur diras: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: Buvez, enivrez-vous, vomissez, tombez et ne vous relevez plus quand vous verrez l’épée que j’envoie contre vous.”
28 And if they refuse to receive the cup from your hand and to drink, you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts: Certainly, you shall drink!	28 Et s’ils refusent de prendre de ta main cette coupe à boire, tu leur diras: C’est un ordre de Yahvé Sabaot: vous devez boire!
29 For behold, I am beginning to afflict the city in which my name has been invoked, and will you be innocent and immune? You will not be immune! For I will call the sword over all the inhabitants of the earth, says the Lord of hosts.	29 Si j’ai fait venir le malheur d’abord sur la ville que protège mon Nom, croyez-vous que vous, vous serez épargnés? Certainement pas, vous ne serez pas épargnés, car moi-même j’appelle l’épée contre tous les habitants de la terre.
30 And you shall prophesy to them all these words, and you shall say to them: The Lord will roar from on high, and he will utter his voice from his holy habitation. When roaring, he will roar over the place of his beauty. He will call out, like those who chant in rhythm as they trample the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.	30 Tu leur annonceras toutes ces paroles et tu leur diras: Yahvé a rugi, du haut de sa sainte Demeure il fait entendre sa voix. Il pousse un rugissement contre son héritage et contre tous les habitants de la terre. Il pousse des cris comme ceux qui piétinent le raisin,
31 The sound of it will penetrate even to the ends of the earth. For the Lord is entering into judgment with the nations. He himself is entering into judgment with all flesh. I have delivered the impious to the sword, says the Lord.”	31 le bruit en est arrivé jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre. Yahvé est en procès avec les nations, il entre en jugement avec tout homme, il livre les méchants à l’épée - parole de Yahvé.
32 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, an affliction will go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind will go forth from the ends of the earth.	32 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot: Regardez, le malheur gagne de nation en nation, un ouragan terrible s’est levé, qui nous vient des extrémités de la terre.
33 And the slain of the Lord will be, on that day, from one end of the earth, even to the other end. They will not be mourned, and they will not be gathered, and they will not be buried. They will lie upon the face of the earth like dung.	33 Les victimes de Yahvé tomberont ce jour-là, d’un bout à l’autre de la terre; on ne les ramassera pas, on ne les enterrera pas; elles resteront comme du fumier sur le sol.
34 Wail, O shepherds, and cry out! And sprinkle yourselves with ashes, O nobles of the flock! For the days have been completed that lead to your slaughter and your destruction. And you will fall like precious vessels.	34 Pasteurs, lamentez-vous et criez! Roulez-vous par terre, maîtres du troupeau! Car c’est votre tour d’aller à la boucherie et de tomber comme les bêtes les plus belles.
35 And escape will flee from the shepherds, and safety will flee from the nobility of the flock.”	35 Il n’y a pas d’échappatoire pour les pasteurs, pas de fuite possible pour les maîtres du troupeau.
36 There is a voice of outcry from the shepherds, and a wailing among the nobles among the flock! For the Lord has laid waste to their pastures.	36 Les pasteurs poussent des cris, les maîtres du troupeau se lamentent, car Yahvé a ravagé leurs prairies
37 And the fields of peace have been silenced before the face of the fury of the Lord.	37 et le silence est tombé sur les paisibles pâturages.
38 He has abandoned those he sheltered like a lion. For the earth has become a desolation before the face of the anger of the dove, and before the face of the fury of the Lord.	38 Le lion est sorti de son repaire et leur pays n’est plus que ruines sous le feu du châtiment.
