Isaiah 31

1 Woe to those who descend into Egypt for assistance, hoping in horses, and putting their trust in four-horse chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are exceedingly strong. And they have not believed in the Holy One of Israel, and they have not sought the Lord.	1 Malheur à ceux qui vont chercher du secours en Égypte, et se croient sauvés avec de la cavalerie! Là les chars sont nombreux, les cavaliers sont forts, et ils se sentent rassurés. Mais ils n’ont pas regardé vers le Saint d’Israël, ils n’ont pas consulté Yahvé.
2 Therefore, being wise, he has permitted harm, and he has not removed his words, and he will rise up against the house of the wicked and against those who assist the workers of iniquity.	2 Pourtant Yahvé est sage, et très capable d’amener le malheur. Lui ne manquera pas à sa parole: il se lèvera contre le parti des malfaiteurs et contre l’aide qu’attendent les méchants.
3 Egypt is man, and not God. And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. And so, the Lord will reach down his hand, and the helper will fall, and the one who was being helped will fall, and they will all be consumed together.	3 L’Égyptien est un homme, il n’est pas Dieu: ses chevaux sont chair et non esprit. Au premier coup, si Yahvé frappe, celui qui portait secours trébuchera, celui qu’on secourait tombera, les deux seront éliminés.
4 For the Lord says this to me: In the same way that a lion roars, and a young lion is over his prey, and though a multitude of shepherds may meet him, he will not dread their voice, nor be afraid of their number, so will the Lord of hosts descend in order to battle upon mount Zion and upon its hill.	4 Car voici ce que Yahvé m’a dit: “Lorsque le lion ou le lionceau gronde sur sa proie, la foule des bergers peut bien se rassembler contre lui: il n’a pas peur de leurs cris, il ne s’effraye pas de leur nombre. C’est ainsi que Yahvé Sabaot descendra pour combattre sur la hauteur du Mont Sion.
5 Like birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts protect Jerusalem, protecting and freeing, passing over and saving.	5 Comme les oiseaux étendent leurs ailes, Yahvé Sabaot veillera sur Jérusalem; il couvrira et sauvera, il épargnera et fera qu’on en réchappe.
6 Be converted to the same depth that you have drawn away, O sons of Israel.	6 Revenez donc, fils d’Israël, vers celui que vous avez tellement trahi.
7 For in that day, a man will cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your hands have made for you unto sin.	7 En ce jour-là on rejettera ces idoles d’argent, ces idoles d’or que vous avez fabriquées de vos mains.
8 And Assur will fall by a sword not of man, and a sword not of man will devour him. And he will not flee from the face of the sword, and his young men will be subject to a penalty.	8 L’Assyrie sera abattue, mais ce ne sera pas l’épée d’un homme; l’épée la dévorera, mais pas l’épée des mortels. Elle s’enfuira devant l’épée et ses jeunes gens seront réduits en esclavage.
9 And his strength will pass away in terror, and his princes will flee in fear. The Lord has said it. His fire is in Zion, and his furnace is at Jerusalem.	9 Prise de panique elle fuira sans s’arrêter sur ses défenses, et ses chefs, épouvantés, abandonneront leur drapeau. Ceci est parole de Yahvé, dont le feu est en Sion et le brasier à Jérusalem.
