Sirach 2

1 Son, when you apply yourself to the service of God, stand in justice and in fear, and prepare your soul for temptation.	1 Figliuolo in entrando al servigio di Dio sta costante nella giustizia, e nel timore, e prepara l'anima tua alla tentazione.
2 Humble your heart, and persevere. Incline your ear, and accept words of understanding. And you should not hurry away in the time of distress.	2 Umilia il cuor tuo, e sopporta, porgi l'orecchio, e accogli i saggi consigli, e non ti agitare nel tempo della oscurità.
3 Endure steadfastly for God. Join yourself to God, and persevere, so that your life may increase in the very end.	3 Aspetta in pazienza quel, che aspetti da Dio: sta unito con Dio, ed aspetta, affinché in appresso sia più prospera la tua vita.
4 Accept everything that will happened to you, and persevere in your sorrow, and have patience in your humiliation.	4 Ricevi tutto quello, che ti è mandato, e nel dolore soffri costantemente, e prendi in pazienza la tua umiliazione:
5 For gold and silver are tested in fire, yet truly, acceptable men are tested in the furnace of humiliation.	5 Perocché col fuoco si fa saggio dell'oro, e dell'argento; e degli uomini accettevoli nella fornace dell'umiliazione.
6 Believe God, and he will restore you to health. And straighten your way, and hope in him. Observe his fear, and grow old in it.	6 Confida in Dio, ed egli ti trarrà in salvo; e addirizza la tua via, e spera in lui. Conserva il suo timore, e in esso invecchia.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy. And do not turn away from him, lest you fall.	7 Voi, che temete il Signore, aspettate in pazienza la sua misericordia, e non vi staccate da lui per non cadere.
8 You who fear the Lord, believe in him. And your reward will not be taken away.	8 Voi, che temete il Signore, credete a lui, e non sarà perduta la vostra mercede.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope in him. And mercy will approach you, to your delight.	9 Voi, che temete il Signore, sperate in lui, e la misericordia verrà a racconsolarvi.
10 You who fear the Lord, love him. And your hearts will be illuminated.	10 Voi, che temete il Signore, amatelo, e la luce verrà a' vostri cuori.
11 My sons, consider the nations of men, and know that not one of them hoped in the Lord and was confounded.	11 Figliuoli mirate le generazioni degli uomini, e sappiate, che nissuno sperò nel Signore, e rimase confuso:
12 For who has remained in his commandment and been abandoned? Or who has called upon him, and yet he despised him?	12 Imperocché chi è mai, che sia stato costante ne' comandamenti di lui, e sia stato abbandonato? E chi mai lo invocò, che sia stato sprezzato?
13 For God is upright and merciful, and he will forgive sins in the day of tribulation. And he is the Protector to all those who seek him in truth.	13 Perocché Dio è benigno, e misericordioso, e nel dì della tribolazione rimette i peccati, ed è protettore di tutti quelli, che lui cercano con verità.
14 Woe to the duplicitous heart, and to the wicked lips, and to the hands that do evil, and to the sinner who walks the earth by two ways!	14 Guai al cuore doppio, e alle labbra scellerate, e alle mani malfattrici, e al peccatore che per due strade cammina sopra la terra.
15 Woe to the dissolute in heart, who do not trust God! For, as a result, they will not be protected by him.	15 Guai a quelli, che son fiacchi di cuore, che non credono a Dio; e per questo non saran protetti da lui.
16 Woe to those who have lost endurance, and who have abandoned upright ways, and who have turned aside to depraved ways!	16 Guai a quelli, che perdono la tolleranza, e abbandonano le vie rette, e vanno a prendere le vie storte.
17 And what will they do when the Lord begins to examine them?	17 E che farann' eglino, allorché il Signore principierà a far giudizio?
18 Those who fear the Lord will not be unbelieving toward his Word. And those who love him will keep to his way.	18 Quelli, che temono il Signore, non saranno disubbidienti alla sua parola, e quelli, che lo amano, la via di lui seguiranno costantemente.
19 Those who fear the Lord will seek the things that are well-pleasing to him. And those who love him will be filled with his law.	19 Quelli, che temono il Signore, studieranno quello, che sia grato a lui, e que' che lo amano saranno ripieni della sua legge.
20 Those who fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and they will sanctify their souls in his sight.	20 Quei, che temono il Signore, prepareranno i loro cuori, o nel cospetto di lui santificheranno le anime loro.
21 Those who fear the Lord keep his commandments, and they will have patience even until his examination,	21 Que' che temono il Signore, osservano i suoi comandamenti, e conserveranno la pazienza fino al dì della visita;
22 saying: “If we do not do penance, then we will fall into the hands of the Lord, and not into the hands of men.”	22 E diranno: se noi non farem penitenza, caderem nelle mani del Signore, e non nelle mani degli uomini;
23 For according to his greatness, so also is his mercy with him.	23 Perocché quanto egli è grande, altrettanto egli è misericordioso.
