1 Cast your bread over running waters. For, after a long time, you shall find it again.	1 Ma apparecchia del tuo pane a coloro che passano per la strada; e (poi che tu il crederai avere perduto) sì lo ritroverai dopo molto tempo.
2 Give a portion to seven, and indeed even to eight. For you do not know what evil may be upon the earth in the future.	2 Dà sette volte del tuo, dànne otto; imperciò che tu non sai il male che deve venire.
3 If the clouds have been filled, they will pour forth rain upon the earth. If a tree falls to the south, or to the north, or to whatever direction it may fall, there it shall remain.	3 Se le nuvole saranno cariche d'acqua, sappi ch' elle pioveranno. Di poi che lo legno è caduto, in buono luogo o in reo, ivi sta fermo, (e non si muove).
4 Whoever heeds the wind will not sow. And whoever considers the clouds will never reap.	4 Chi attende il vento, non seminerà; e chi ha paura de' nuvoli', non ricoglierà (a buona stagione).
5 In the same manner that you do not know the way of the spirit, nor the way that bones are joined together in the womb of a pregnant woman, so you do not know the works of God, who is the Maker of all.	5 Però che tu non sai la via del vento (o della vita), e come si congiungono l' ossa del fanciullo nel corpo della madre, (non si sa però che) non si puote sapere l'opera di Dio, il quale sì è fabbricatore di tutte le cose.
6 In the morning, sow your seed, and in the evening, do not let your hand cease. For you do not know which of these may rise up, the one or the other. But if both rise up together, so much the better.	6 Comincia a seminare per tempo, e ancora se il farai al vespero, farai bene; però che non sai quale è il meglio; e se ciascuno nasce, tanto è meglio.
7 Light is pleasant, and it is delightful for the eyes to see the sun.	7 Dolce cosa è il lume, e dilettevole è il sole a vedere.
8 If a man lives for many years, and if he has rejoiced in all of these, he must remember the many days of the dark times, which, when they will have arrived, will accuse the past of vanity.	8 Se l'uomo vivesse molti anni, e in tutti avesse letizia (e allegrezza), non si deve però dimenticare delle tenebre pericolose dello inferno; anche si deve ricordare de' molti tempi buoni (e modi di paradiso); ne' quali chi sarà ripensi i tempi passati, e che sieno usciti pieni di vanitadi.
9 So then, rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart remain in what is good during the days of your youth. And walk in the ways of your heart, and with the perception of your eyes. And know that, concerning all these things, God will bring you to judgment.	9 Allègrati dunque, o giovane, in tua giovinezza, e poni il tuo cuore in buone cose; (però che) sì va alla via diritta nelli dì della giovinezza tua, e va nella via del cuore tuo, e nella veduta delli occhi tuoi; e sappi che per tutte queste cose Iddio ti conducerà nel giudicio.
10 Remove anger from your heart, and set aside evil from your flesh. For youth and pleasure are empty.	10 Togli via l'ira del cuore tuo, e rimuovi la malizia della carne tua; però che la giovinezza e il desiderio sono cose vane.
