1 Therefore call, if there are any who will respond to you, and turn to one or another of the saints.	1 - Chiama pur, se c'è chi ti risponda, e rivolgiti a qualcuno dei santi.
2 Truly, anger condemns the foolish to death, and envy kills the petty.	2 Però lo stolto lo uccide la rabbia e al dissennato dà morte l'invidia.
3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I have cursed his excellence without hesitation.	3 Io ben vidi lo stolto [quale albero] con sode radici, ma imputridì la sua prosperità ad un tratto.
4 His sons will be far from prosperity and will be crushed at the gate, and there will be none who can rescue them.	4 Lungi da salvezza finiranno i suoi figli, oppressi saranno sulla porta senza che alcun li salvi.
5 Their harvest, the starving will eat. The armed man will rob him, and the thirsty will drink his resources.	5 La sua mèsse la divorerà l'affamato, un armato rapirà via lui, gente assetata succhierà le sue ricchezze.
6 Nothing on earth occurs without a reason, and sorrow does not rise from the earth.	6 Non avviene nulla in terra senza cagione, e dal suolo non germoglia l'affanno:
7 Man is born to labor, and the bird to fly.	7 l'uomo nasce al travaglio, come l'uccello per il volo.
8 Therefore, because of this, I will beg the Lord, and place my eloquence before God.	8 Io quindi, [fossi in te], pregherei il Signore, e innanzi a Dio proporrei la mia causa:
9 He does great and unfathomable and miraculous things without number.	9 egli opera cose grandi e imperscrutabili, cose mirabili che non hanno numero;
10 He gives rain over the face of the earth and irrigates all things with the waters.	10 manda egli la pioggia sulla superficie della terraed irriga con le acque ogni cosa;
11 He places the humble on high and encourages the grieving towards health.	11 egli mette in alto tutti gli umiliati, e gli afflitti eleva in salvezza;
12 He dispels the thoughts of the spiteful, lest their hands be able to complete what they had begun.	12 egli dissipa i pensieri dei maligni, sì che le lor mani non compiano ciò che cominciarono;
13 He catches the wise in their cleverness and dissipates the counsel of the perverse.	13 comprende egli i sapienti nella loro accortezza, e disperde il disegno dei malvagi:
14 They will encounter darkness in the daytime, and they will grope at midday just as in the night.	14 di giorno incappano essi nelle tenebre, e come di notte brancolano a mezzodì.
15 Thereafter, he will act to save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.	15 Egli quindi salverà il misero dalla spada della lor bocca, e il poverello dalla mano del violento:
16 And there will be hope for those in need, for iniquity will diminish its speech.	16 sì che v'abbia per l'infelice una speranza, e l'iniquità chiuda la sua bocca.
17 Blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not reject the chastisement of the Lord.	17 Beato l'uomo che da Dio è corretto: la riprensione del Signore tu dunque non spregiare!
18 For he wounds and he cures; he strikes and his hands will heal.	18 Poichè egli ferisce e pur medica, percuote e pur le sue mani guariscono.
19 He will deliver you into six tribulations, and in the seventh, evil will not touch you.	19 In sei angustie egli ti salverà, e nella settima non ti toccherà il male:
20 During famine, he will rescue you from death, and during war, from the hand of the sword.	20 nella fame ti libererà dalla morte, e nella mischia dal poter della spada;
21 You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear calamity when it arrives.	21 dal flagello della lingua [calunniatrice] sarai celato, nè temerai della calamità se venga;
22 In desolation and in famine, you will laugh, and you will not dread the beasts of the earth.	22 della desolazione e carestia ti farai beffe, delle fiere della terra non avrai paura;
23 For you are in harmony with the stones of the land, and the beasts of the earth will make peace with you.	23 pur dalle pietre dei campi tu trarrai vantaggio, e le fiere della terra saranno in pace con te.
24 And you will know that your home has peace, and, concerning your appearance, you will not sin.	24 Proverai che la tua tenda gode di pace, e visitando la tua dimora non troverai mancanza.
25 Likewise, you will know that your offspring will be manifold and your progeny will be like the grass of the earth.	25 Proverai pure che la tua prole s'accresce, e la tua progenie sarà come l'erba della terra.
26 You will enter the grave with abundance, just as a crop of wheat is gathered in its time.	26 Giungerai in decrepitezza alla tombacome racchiudesi la bica del grano a suo tempo.
27 Behold, this is just as we have found it, which you have heard; walk it through your mind.	27 Ecco, la cosa sta come abbiamo investigato; su ciò che hai ascoltato tu rifletti.»
