Job 35

After this, Eliu again spoke in this way:1 Élihou prit encore la parole:
Does it seem right to you in your thoughts, that you should say, “I am more just than God?”2 Voyons, Job, crois-tu vraiment avoir raison et pouvoir te justifier devant Dieu
For you said, “Having done what is right does not please you,” and, “How will it benefit you, if I sin?”3 quand tu lui dis: “Que t’importe, qu’est-ce que cela te fait si je pèche?”
And so, I will respond to your words, and to your friends who are with you.4 Eh bien, je veux t’en dire quelque chose, et à tes amis en même temps.
Look up towards heaven and consider; also, think about the sky, which is higher than you.5 Lève les yeux vers le ciel et regarde: vois ces nuages bien au-dessus de toi!
If you sin, how will it hurt him? And if your iniquities are multiplied, what will you do against him?6 Donc, si tu pèches, atteins-tu le Très-Haut? Tu auras beau l’offenser, que peux-tu lui faire?
Furthermore, if you act justly, what will you give him, or what will he receive from your hand?7 De même si tu es juste, que lui apportes-tu, quel cadeau lui fais-tu?
Your impiety may hurt a man who is like you, though your justice may help the son of the man.8 Tu ne nuis qu’à celui qui comme toi est humain, tes vertus valent pour des hommes.
Because of the multitude of false accusers, they will cry out; and they will lament because of the strong arm of the tyrants.9 Les hommes crient sous le poids de l’oppression, ils appellent au secours quand les grands les oppriment.
Yet he has not said: “Where is God, who made me, who has given songs in the night,10 Mais disent-ils: “Où est le Dieu qui nous a faits, celui qui fait chanter les nuits,
who teaches us in addition to the beasts of the earth, and who educates us along with the birds of the air?”11 celui qui nous instruit par les bêtes de la terre et par l’oiseau du ciel nous livre la sagesse?”
There they will cry, and he will not heed them, because of the arrogance of the wicked.12 Voilà pourquoi ils crient et Dieu ne répond pas quand ils subissent les excès des méchants.
Therefore, God does not hear in vain, and the Almighty will look into each and every case.13 Tout est inutile! Dieu n’écoute pas, le Puissant regarde ailleurs.
And so, when you say, “He does not examine,” be judged before him, but wait for him.14 Ce sera pire si tu dis que tu ne le vois pas, que tu veux un jugement et que tu l’attends,
For, at the present time, he does not bring forth his fury, nor does he punish sin exceedingly.15 ou si tu dis que sa colère ne sait pas punir et qu’il n’est guère au courant des injustices.
Therefore, Job has opened his mouth in vain and has multiplied words without knowledge.16 Job veut qu’on l’entende, mais c’est du creux; il multiplie les discours mais il ne sait pas!
