But Job answered by saying:1 υπολαβων δε ιωβ λεγει
How long will you afflict my soul and wear me down with words?2 εως τινος εγκοπον ποιησετε ψυχην μου και καθαιρειτε με λογοις
So, ten times you confound me and are not ashamed to oppress me.3 γνωτε μονον οτι ο κυριος εποιησε με ουτως καταλαλειτε μου ουκ αισχυνομενοι με επικεισθε μοι
Now, of course, if I have been ignorant, my ignorance will be with me.4 ναι δη επ' αληθειας εγω επλανηθην παρ' εμοι δε αυλιζεται πλανος [4α] λαλησαι ρημα ο ουκ εδει τα δε ρηματα μου πλαναται και ουκ επι καιρου
But you have risen up against me, and you accuse me to my disgrace.5 εα δε οτι επ' εμοι μεγαλυνεσθε εναλλεσθε δε μοι ονειδει
At least now you should understand that God has not afflicted me with a balanced judgment, though he has encompassed me with his scourges.6 γνωτε ουν οτι ο κυριος εστιν ο ταραξας οχυρωμα δε αυτου επ' εμε υψωσεν
Behold, I will cry out, enduring violence, and no one will hear. I will announce loudly, but there is no one who may judge.7 ιδου γελω ονειδει και ου λαλησω κεκραξομαι και ουδαμου κριμα
He has hemmed in my path, and I cannot pass; he has added darkness to my difficult path.8 κυκλω περιωκοδομημαι και ου μη διαβω επι προσωπον μου σκοτος εθετο
He has plundered me of my glory, and he has stolen the crown from my head.9 την δε δοξαν απ' εμου εξεδυσεν αφειλεν δε στεφανον απο κεφαλης μου
He has destroyed me on every side, and I am lost, and, like an uprooted tree, he has taken away my hope.10 διεσπασεν με κυκλω και ωχομην εξεκοψεν δε ωσπερ δενδρον την ελπιδα μου
His fury has raged against me, and in this way he has treated me like his enemy.11 δεινως δε μοι οργη εχρησατο ηγησατο δε με ωσπερ εχθρον
His troops have gathered together, and they have made their way to me, and they have besieged my tabernacle all around.12 ομοθυμαδον δε ηλθον τα πειρατηρια αυτου επ' εμοι ταις οδοις μου εκυκλωσαν με εγκαθετοι
He has put my brothers far from me, and my friends have withdrawn from me like strangers.13 απ' εμου δε αδελφοι μου απεστησαν εγνωσαν αλλοτριους η εμε φιλοι δε μου ανελεημονες γεγονασιν
My kinsmen have forsaken me, and those who knew me, have forgotten me.14 ου προσεποιησαντο με οι εγγυτατοι μου και οι ειδοτες μου το ονομα επελαθοντο μου
The inhabitants of my house and my maidservants treat me just as if I were a stranger, and I have been like an sojourner in their eyes.15 γειτονες οικιας θεραπαιναι τε μου αλλογενης ημην εναντιον αυτων
I called my servant, and he did not respond; I pleaded with him with my own mouth.16 θεραποντα μου εκαλεσα και ουχ υπηκουσεν στομα δε μου εδεετο
My wife has shuddered at my breath, and I have begged the sons of my loins.17 και ικετευον την γυναικα μου προσεκαλουμην δε κολακευων υιους παλλακιδων μου
Even the foolish have looked down on me, and, when I withdrew from them, they spoke ill of me.18 οι δε εις τον αιωνα με απεποιησαντο οταν αναστω κατ' εμου λαλουσιν
Those who were sometime my counselors, treat me like an abomination; and he whom I valued the most has turned against me.19 εβδελυξαντο δε με οι ειδοτες με ους δη ηγαπηκειν επανεστησαν μοι
Since my flesh has been consumed, my bone adheres to my skin, and only my lips have been left around my teeth.20 εν δερματι μου εσαπησαν αι σαρκες μου τα δε οστα μου εν οδουσιν εχεται
Have mercy on me, have compassion on me, at least you my friends, because the hand of the Lord has touched me.21 ελεησατε με ελεησατε με ω φιλοι χειρ γαρ κυριου η αψαμενη μου εστιν
Why do you pursue me just as God does, and satiate yourselves with my flesh?22 δια τι δε με διωκετε ωσπερ και ο κυριος απο δε σαρκων μου ουκ εμπιπλασθε
Who will grant to me that my words may be written down? Who will grant to me that they may be inscribed in a book,23 τις γαρ αν δωη γραφηναι τα ρηματα μου τεθηναι δε αυτα εν βιβλιω εις τον αιωνα
with an iron pen and a plate of lead, or else be carved in stone?24 εν γραφειω σιδηρω και μολιβω η εν πετραις εγγλυφηναι
For I know that my Redeemer lives, and on the last day I will rise out of the earth.25 οιδα γαρ οτι αεναος εστιν ο εκλυειν με μελλων επι γης
And I will be enveloped again with my skin, and in my flesh I will see my God.26 αναστησαι το δερμα μου το ανατλων ταυτα παρα γαρ κυριου ταυτα μοι συνετελεσθη
It is he whom I myself will see, and he whom my eyes will behold, and no other. This, my hope, has taken rest in my bosom.27 α εγω εμαυτω συνεπισταμαι α ο οφθαλμος μου εορακεν και ουκ αλλος παντα δε μοι συντετελεσται εν κολπω
Why then do you now say: “Let us pursue him, and let us find a basis to speak against him?”28 ει δε και ερειτε τι ερουμεν εναντι αυτου και ριζαν λογου ευρησομεν εν αυτω
So then, flee from the face of the sword, for the sword is the avenger of iniquities; but know this: there is to be a judgment.29 ευλαβηθητε δη και υμεις απο επικαλυμματος θυμος γαρ επ' ανομους επελευσεται και τοτε γνωσονται που εστιν αυτων η υλη
