2 Chronicles 34

1 Josiah was eight years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.	1 Quando cominciò a regnare, Giosia aveva otto anni e regnò in Gerusalemme trentun anni.
2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and he walked in the ways of his father David. He did not turn away, neither to the right, nor to the left.	2 Fece ciò che è retto al cospetto del Signore e seguì la condotta di Davide, suo padre, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra.
3 Now in the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David. And in the twelfth year after he had begun to reign, he cleansed Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the sacred groves, and the idols, and the graven images.	3 Nell'ottavo anno del suo regno, quando era ancora giovane, cominciò a ricercare il Dio di Davide, suo padre, e nel dodicesimo anno cominciò a purificare Giuda e Gerusalemme dalle alture, dai pali sacri, dagli idoli e dalle immagini di metallo fuso.
4 And in his sight, they destroyed the altars of the Baals, and they demolished the idols which had been set upon them. And then he cut down the sacred groves and crushed the graven images. And he scattered the fragments upon the tombs of those who had been accustomed to immolate to them.	4 Furono demoliti davanti a lui gli altari dei Baal, fece abbattere gli altari d'incenso che vi erano sopra; frantumò i pali sacri, gl'idoli e le immagini in metallo fuso, li ridusse in polvere, che sparse sui sepolcri di coloro che avevano ad essi sacrificato.
5 And after that, he burned the bones of the priests upon the altars of the idols. And so did he cleanse Judah and Jerusalem.	5 Bruciò le ossa dei sacerdoti sui loro altari e così purificò la Giudea e Gerusalemme.
6 Then too, in the cities of Manasseh, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Naphtali, he overturned everything.	6 Lo stesso fece nelle città di Manasse, di Efraim, di Simeone e fino a Neftali, e nei territori che le attorniavano:
7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the sacred groves, and had broken the idols to pieces, and when all the profane shrines had been demolished from the entire land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.	7 abbatté gli altari e frantumò i pali sacri e gl'idoli, riducendoli in polvere e demolì tutti gli altari d'incenso in tutto il paese d'Israele. Poi fece ritorno a Gerusalemme.
8 And so, in the eighteenth year of his reign, having now cleansed the land and the temple of the Lord, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah, the ruler of the city, and Joah, the son of Joahaz, the historian, to repair the house of the Lord his God.	8 Nell'anno diciottesimo del suo regno, dopo aver purificato il paese e il tempio, incaricò Safàn, figlio di Asalia, Maaseia, governatore della città, e Ioach, figlio di Ioacaz, archivista, di restaurare il tempio del Signore, suo Dio.
9 And they went to Hilkiah, the high priest. And having accepted from him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasseh, and Ephraim, and the entire remnant of Israel, and also from all of Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	9 Essi si recarono presso il sommo sacerdote Chelkia e consegnarono il denaro depositato nel tempio, che i leviti, custodi della porta, avevano raccolto da Manasse, da Efraim e da tutto il resto d'Israele, da tutta la Giudea, da Beniamino e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
10 they delivered it into the hands of those who were in charge of the workers in the house of the Lord, so that they might repair the temple, and restore whatever was weak.	10 Lo consegnarono in mano ai direttori dei lavori che erano preposti al tempio del Signore, i quali lo impiegarono per gli operai che lavoravano nel tempio del Signore, per consolidarlo e restaurarlo;
11 And they gave it to the artisans and the stoneworkers, so that they might buy stones from the quarries, and wood for the joints of the building and for the upper floors the houses, which the kings of Judah had destroyed.	11 lo consegnarono ai carpentieri e ai muratori, per acquistare pietre di taglio e legname per le armature e le travature dei locali che i re di Giuda avevano lasciato andare in rovina.
12 And they did everything faithfully. Now the overseers of the workers were Jahath and Obadiah, from the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, from the sons of Kohath, who were supervising the work. All were Levites who knew how to play musical instruments.	12 Quegli uomini lavoravano con onestà; si trovavano sotto la sorveglianza di Iacat e di Abdia, leviti dei figli di Merari, e di Zaccaria e Mesullam, Keatiti, che li dirigevano. I leviti, tutti esperti di strumenti musicali,
13 Truly, scribes and teachers, from among the Levites who were porters, were over those who were carrying burdens for various uses.	13 sorvegliavano i portatori e dirigevano tutti quelli che eseguivano lavori nei diversi servizi. Alcuni leviti erano anche scribi, ispettori e portieri.
14 And when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord by the hand of Moses.	14 Mentre si prelevava il denaro depositato nel tempio del Signore, il sacerdote Chelkia trovò il libro della legge del Signore, data per mezzo di Mosè.
15 And he said to Shaphan, the scribe: “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” And he delivered it to him.	15 Allora Chelkia, presa la parola, disse allo scriba Safàn: "Ho trovato nel tempio del Signore il libro della legge". Chelkia consegnò il libro a Safàn.
16 Then he took the volume to the king, and he reported to him, saying: “Behold, everything that you entrusted to your servants is completed.	16 Safàn portò il libro dal re a cui riferì: "I tuoi servi eseguono tutto ciò che è stato loro ordinato.
17 They have melted together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord. And it has been given to the overseers of the artisans and craftsmen for various works.	17 Hanno versato il denaro trovato nel tempio del Signore e l'hanno consegnato ai sovrintendenti e agli operai".
18 After this, Hilkiah the priest gave to me this book.” And when he had read it in the presence of the king,	18 Poi lo scriba Safàn annunciò al re: "Il sacerdote Chelkia mi ha dato un libro". Safàn ne lesse una parte alla presenza del re.
19 and he had heard the words of the law, he tore his garments.	19 Quando il re udì le parole della legge si strappò le vesti.
20 And he instructed Hilkiah, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Abdon, the son of Micah, and also Shaphan, the scribe, and Asaiah, the servant of the king, saying:	20 Egli diede quest'ordine a Chelkia, ad Achikam, figlio di Safàn, ad Abdon, figlio di Mica, allo scriba Safàn e ad Asaia, ministro del re:
21 “Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel and Judah, concerning all the words of this book, which has been found. For the great fury of the Lord has rained down upon us, because our fathers did not keep the words of the Lord, to do all that has been written in this volume.”	21 "Andate a consultare il Signore per me e per quelli che sono rimasti in Israele e in Giuda circa le parole del libro che è stato trovato; difatti grande è la collera del Signore, riversatasi sopra di noi, perché i nostri padri non osservarono la parola del Signore, agendo in conformità con quanto è scritto in questo libro".
22 Therefore, Hilkiah, and those who had been sent with him by the king, went to Huldah, the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the vestments. She was living in Jerusalem, in the second part. And they spoke to her the words which we explained above.	22 Allora Chelkia, insieme con quelli che il re aveva designato si recò dalla profetessa Culda, moglie di Sallùm, figlio di Tokat, figlio di Casra, il guardarobiere del tempio; essa abitava a Gerusalemme nella città nuova. Le parlarono in questo senso
23 And she responded to them: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Tell the man who sent you to me:	23 ed ella rispose: "Così parla il Signore, Dio d'Israele: Riferite all'uomo che vi ha inviato da me:
24 Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will lead in evils over this place, and over its inhabitants, with all the curses that have been written in this book, which they have read before the king of Judah.	24 Così parla il Signore: "Ecco, faccio venire una sciagura su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti, tutte le maledizioni scritte nel libro che è stato letto al cospetto del re di Giuda.
25 For they have abandoned me, and they have sacrificed to foreign gods, so that they provoked me to wrath by all the works of their hands. Therefore, my fury will rain down upon this place, and it will not be extinguished.	25 Poiché mi hanno abbandonato e hanno offerto incenso a divinità straniere, così da provocarmi a sdegno con tutte le opere delle loro mani, la mia collera si riverserà su questo luogo e non si spegnerà".
26 To the king of Judah, who sent you to petition before the Lord, so shall you speak: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Since you listened to the words of this volume,	26 Al re di Giuda, che vi ha inviato a consultare il Signore, direte: Così parla il Signore, Dio d'Israele: "A proposito delle parole che hai udito,
27 and your heart was softened, and you humbled yourself in the sight of God concerning these things which have been said against this place and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and since, revering my face, you have torn your garments, and have wept before me: I also have heeded you, says the Lord.	27 poiché il tuo cuore si è intenerito e ti sei umiliato davanti a Dio udendo le mie parole contro questo luogo e contro i suoi abitanti, ti sei umiliato davanti a me, hai strappato le tue vesti e hai pianto al mio cospetto, anch'io ti ho ascoltato. Oracolo del Signore.
28 For now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be brought into your sepulcher in peace. Neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will lead in, over this place and over its inhabitants.” And so they took back to the king all that she had said.	28 Ecco che ti riunirò con i tuoi padri, sarai accolto in pace nel tuo sepolcro. I tuoi occhi non vedranno tutta la sciagura che farò venire su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti". Quelli riportarono il messaggio al re.
29 And he, calling together all those greater by birth of Judah and Jerusalem,	29 Allora per ordine del re si riunirono tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme.
30 ascended to the house of the Lord, united with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest. And in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, the king read all the words of the volume.	30 Il re salì al tempio del Signore insieme con tutti gli uomini di Giuda e con gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, i leviti e tutto il popolo, dal più grande al più piccolo. Egli fece leggere in loro presenza tutte le parole del libro dell'alleanza trovato nel tempio del Signore.
31 And standing up at his tribunal, he struck a covenant before the Lord, so that he would walk after him, and would keep his precepts and testimonies and justifications, with his whole heart and with his whole soul, and so that he would do the things that were written in that volume, which he had read.	31 Il re, stando ritto sul suo podio, concluse un'alleanza davanti al Signore, impegnandosi a seguire il Signore, osservare i suoi precetti, le sue prescrizioni e i suoi decreti con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, in modo da mettere in pratica le parole dell'alleanza scritte in quel libro.
32 Also, concerning this, he bound by oath all who had been found in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accord with the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers.	32 Egli vi fece aderire tutti quelli che si trovavano in Gerusalemme e Beniamino. Gli abitanti di Gerusalemme agirono secondo l'alleanza di Dio, del Dio dei loro padri.
33 Therefore, Josiah took away all the abominations from all the regions of the sons of Israel. And he caused all who were remaining in Israel to serve the Lord their God. During all his days, they did not withdraw from the Lord, the God of their fathers.	33 Giosia fece sparire tutte le abominazioni da tutti i territori appartenenti agl'Israeliti e costrinse quanti si trovavano in Israele a servire il Signore, loro Dio. Durante tutta la sua vita essi non si allontanarono dal Signore, il Dio dei loro padri.
