1 Now Satan rose up against Israel, and he incited David so that he would number Israel.	1 Satán se alzó contra Israel e instigó a David a hacer un censo de Israel.
2 And David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people: “Go, and number Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan. And bring me the number, so that I may know it.”	2 David dijo a Joab y a los jefes del pueblo: «Vayan a hacer el recuento de Israel, desde Berseba hasta Dan, y tráiganme el resultado para que sepa cuántos son».
3 And Joab responded: “May the Lord increase his people a hundred times more than they are. But, my lord the king, are they not all your servants? Why would my lord seek this thing, which may be imputed as a sin to Israel?”	3 Joab respondió: «¡Que el Señor multiplique a su pueblo cien veces más! Pero, rey y señor mío, ¿no son todos ellos tus servidores? ¿Por qué entonces mi señor hace esto? ¿Por qué cargar con una culpa a Israel?».
4 But the word of the king prevailed instead. And Joab went away, and he traveled around, through all of Israel. And he returned to Jerusalem.	4 Sin embargo, la orden del rey prevaleció sobre el parecer de Joab, y este salió a recorrer todo Israel. Luego volvió a Jerusalén
5 And he gave to David the number of those whom he had surveyed. And the entire number of Israel was found to be one million and one hundred thousand men who could draw the sword; but from Judah, there were four hundred and seventy thousand men of war.	5 y presentó a David las cifras del censo de la población: en todo Israel había 1.100.000 hombres aptos para el servicio militar, y en Judá, 470.000.
6 But Levi and Benjamin he did not number. For Joab executed the orders of the king unwillingly.	6 Pero Joab no incluyó en el censo ni a Leví ni a Benjamín, porque consideraba abominable la orden del rey.
7 Then God was displeased with what had been ordered, and so he struck Israel.	7 Dios vio esto con malos ojos y castigó a Israel.
8 And David said to God: “I have sinned exceedingly in doing this. I beg you take away the iniquity of your servant. For I have acted unwisely.”	8 Entonces David dijo a Dios: «He cometido un grave pecado al obrar de esta manera. Dígnate ahora borrar la falta de tu servidor, porque me he comportado como un necio».
9 And the Lord spoke to Gad, the seer of David, saying:	9 El Señor dirigió su palabra a Gad, el vidente de David, en estos términos:
10 “Go, and speak to David, and tell him: Thus says the Lord: I give to you the option of three things. Choose the one that you will want, and I will do it to you.”	10 «Ve a decir a David: Así habla el Señor: Te propongo tres cosas. Elige una, y yo la llevaré a cabo».
11 And when Gad had gone to David, he said to him: “Thus says the Lord: Choose what you will want:	11 Gad se presentó a David y le dijo: «Así habla el Señor: Tienes que elegir,
12 Either three years of famine, or three months for you to flee from your enemies, unable to escape from their sword, or three days for the sword of the Lord and a pestilence to turn within the land, with the Angel of the Lord killing in every part of Israel. Now therefore, see what I should respond to him who sent me.”	12 o bien tres años de hambre; o bien tres meses de derrotas ante tus enemigos, bajo los golpes de espada de tus adversarios; o bien tres días en que la espada del Señor y la peste asolarán el país y el Angel del Señor hará estragos en todo el territorio de Israel. Ahora mira bien qué debo responder al que me envió».
13 And David said to Gad: “There are difficulties pressing upon me from every side. But it is better for me to fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are many, than into the hands of men.”	13 David dijo a Gad: «¡Estoy en un grave aprieto! Prefiero caer en manos del Señor, porque es muy grande su misericordia, antes que caer en manos de los hombres».
14 Therefore, the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel. And there fell from Israel seventy thousand men.	14 Entonces el Señor envió la peste a Israel, y cayeron setenta mil hombres de Israel.
15 Also, he sent an Angel to Jerusalem, so that he might strike it. And while he was striking, the Lord saw and took pity over the magnitude of the harm. And he commanded the Angel who was striking: “It is enough. Now let your hand cease.” And the Angel of the Lord was standing beside the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	15 Dios mandó un Angel a Jerusalén para exterminarla; pero cuando la estaba exterminando, el Señor miró y se arrepintió del mal que le infligía, y dijo al Angel exterminador: «¡Basta ya! ¡Retira tu mano!». El Angel del Señor estaba junto a la era de Ornán, el jebuseo.
16 And David, lifting up his eyes, saw the Angel of the Lord, standing between heaven and earth with a drawn sword in his hand, turned toward Jerusalem. And both he and those greater by birth, being clothed in haircloth, fell prone upon the ground.	16 David alzó los ojos, y vio al Angel del Señor erguido entre la tierra y el cielo, con su espada desenvainada en la mano, apuntando hacia Jerusalén. David y los ancianos, vestidos de sayales, cayeron con el rostro en tierra,
17 And David said to God: “Am I not the one who ordered that the people be numbered? It is I who sinned; it is I who did evil. This flock, what does it deserve? O Lord my God, I beg you to let your hand be turned against me and against the house of my father. But let not your people be struck down.”	17 y David dijo a Dios: «¿No he sido yo el que ordenó hacer el recuento del pueblo? ¿No he sido yo el que ha pecado y ha obrado mal? Pero estos, las ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? ¡Señor, Dios mío, descarga tu mano sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre, pero no castigues a tu pueblo!».
18 Then the Angel of the Lord instructed Gad to tell David that he should ascend and build an altar to the Lord God on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	18 El Angel del Señor ordenó a Gad que dijera a David: «Que David suba a erigir un altar al Señor en la era de Ornán, el jebuseo».
19 Therefore, David ascended, in accord with the word of Gad, which he had spoken to him in the name of the Lord.	19 David subió, conforme a la palabra que había dicho Gad en nombre del Señor.
20 Now when Ornan had looked up and seen the Angel, he and his four sons hid themselves. For at that time, he was threshing wheat upon the floor.	20 Ornán, que estaba trillando el trigo, al darse vuelta, había visto al Angel, y los cuatro hijos que estaban con él se habían escondido.
21 Then, as David was approaching Ornan, Ornan saw him, and he went out from the threshing floor to meet him. And he reverenced him prone on the ground.	21 David llegó adonde estaba Ornán. Este dirigió una mirada y, al ver a David, salió de la era y se postró delante de él con el rostro en tierra.
22 And David said to him: “Give this place of your threshing floor to me, so that I may build an altar to the Lord upon it. And you shall accept from me as much money as it is worth, so that the plague may cease from the people.”	22 David dijo entonces a Ornán: «Cédeme el terreno de la era para edificar en él un altar al Señor; entrégamelo por su valor real, y así cesará la plaga que azota a mi pueblo».
23 But Ornan said to David: “Take it, and may my lord the king do whatever pleases him. Moreover, I give the oxen also as a holocaust, and the plow for wood, and the wheat for a sacrifice. I will offer all freely.”	23 Ornán respondió a David: «Tómala, y que mi señor el rey haga con ella lo que mejor le parezca. Te doy los bueyes para los holocaustos, los trillos para que sirvan de leña y el trigo para la oblación. Yo te entrego todo esto».
24 And king David said to him: “By no means shall it be so. Instead, I will give money to you, as much as it is worth. For I must not take it from you, and thereby offer to the Lord holocausts that cost nothing.”	24 Pero el rey David dijo a Ornán: «¡De ninguna manera! La compraré por su precio real en plata, porque no voy a tomar para el Señor lo que te pertenece, ni voy a ofrecer un holocausto que no cuesta nada».
25 Therefore, David gave Ornan, for the place, the very just weight of six hundred shekels of gold.	25 Así David entregó a Ornán por ese terreno la suma de seiscientos siclos de oro.
26 And he built an altar to the Lord there. And he offered holocausts and peace offerings, and he called upon the Lord. And he heeded him by sending fire from heaven upon the altar of the holocaust.	26 Allí edificó David un altar al Señor, y ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión. Invocó al Señor, y él le respondió enviando fuego del cielo sobre el altar del holocausto.
27 And the Lord instructed the Angel, and he turned his sword back into its sheath.	27 Y el Señor ordenó al Angel que volviera a enfundar su espada.
28 Then, seeing that the Lord had heeded him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, David immediately immolated victims there.	28 En aquel tiempo, al ver que el Señor le había respondido en la era de Ornán, el jebuseo, David ofreció sacrificios allí.
29 But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the desert, and the altar of holocausts, were at that time on the high place of Gibeon.	29 La Morada del Señor, que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar de los holocaustos estaban entonces en el lugar alto de Gabaón.
30 And David was unable to go to the altar, so that he might pray to God there. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear, seeing the sword of the Angel of the Lord.	30 Pero David no había podido presentarse allí para consultar a Dios, porque la espada del Angel del Señor lo había llenado de terror.
