1 After many days, the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go and show yourself to Ahab, so that I may grant rain upon the face of the earth.”	1 και εγενετο μεθ' ημερας πολλας και ρημα κυριου εγενετο προς ηλιου εν τω ενιαυτω τω τριτω λεγων πορευθητι και οφθητι τω αχααβ και δωσω υετον επι προσωπον της γης
2 Therefore, Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. For there was a severe famine in Samaria.	2 και επορευθη ηλιου του οφθηναι τω αχααβ και η λιμος κραταια εν σαμαρεια
3 And Ahab called Obadiah, the manager of his household. Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly.	3 και εκαλεσεν αχααβ τον αβδιου τον οικονομον και αβδιου ην φοβουμενος τον κυριον σφοδρα
4 For when Jezebel was killing the prophets of the Lord, he took one hundred prophets, and concealed them, fifty and fifty, in caves. And he fed them with bread and water.	4 και εγενετο εν τω τυπτειν την ιεζαβελ τους προφητας κυριου και ελαβεν αβδιου εκατον ανδρας προφητας και εκρυψεν αυτους κατα πεντηκοντα εν σπηλαιω και διετρεφεν αυτους εν αρτω και υδατι
5 Then Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go into the land, to all fountains of water, and to all the valleys, for perhaps we will be able to find plants, and save the horses and mules, so that the beasts of burden may not perish entirely.”	5 και ειπεν αχααβ προς αβδιου δευρο και διελθωμεν επι την γην επι πηγας των υδατων και επι χειμαρρους εαν πως ευρωμεν βοτανην και περιποιησωμεθα ιππους και ημιονους και ουκ εξολοθρευθησονται απο των κτηνων
6 And they divided the regions among themselves, so that they might travel through them. Ahab went one way alone, and Obadiah went another way by himself.	6 και εμερισαν εαυτοις την οδον του διελθειν αυτην αχααβ επορευθη εν οδω μια μονος και αβδιου επορευθη εν οδω αλλη μονος
7 And while Obadiah was on the way, Elijah met him. And when he had recognized him, he fell on his face, and he said, “Are you not my lord Elijah?”	7 και ην αβδιου εν τη οδω μονος και ηλθεν ηλιου εις συναντησιν αυτου μονος και αβδιου εσπευσεν και επεσεν επι προσωπον αυτου και ειπεν ει συ ει αυτος κυριε μου ηλιου
8 And he responded to him: “I am. Go and tell your lord that Elijah is here.”	8 και ειπεν ηλιου αυτω εγω πορευου λεγε τω κυριω σου ιδου ηλιου
9 And he said: “How have I sinned that you would deliver me, your servant, into the hand of Ahab, so that he would put me to death?	9 και ειπεν αβδιου τι ημαρτηκα οτι διδως τον δουλον σου εις χειρα αχααβ του θανατωσαι με
10 As the Lord your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom to which my lord has not sent, seeking you. And when all responded, ‘He is not here,’ he swore each kingdom and nation to an oath, because you were not found at all.	10 ζη κυριος ο θεος σου ει εστιν εθνος η βασιλεια ου ουκ απεσταλκεν ο κυριος μου ζητειν σε και ειπον ουκ εστιν και ενεπρησεν την βασιλειαν και τας χωρας αυτης οτι ουχ ευρηκεν σε
11 And now, you say to me, ‘Go and tell your lord that Elijah is here.’	11 και νυν συ λεγεις πορευου αναγγελλε τω κυριω σου ιδου ηλιου
12 And when I will have departed from you, the Spirit of the Lord will transport you to a place that I do not know. And entering, I will report to Ahab. And he, not finding you, will put me to death. Yet your servant has feared the Lord from his infancy.	12 και εσται εαν εγω απελθω απο σου και πνευμα κυριου αρει σε εις γην ην ουκ οιδα και εισελευσομαι απαγγειλαι τω αχααβ και αποκτενει με και ο δουλος σου εστιν φοβουμενος τον κυριον εκ νεοτητος αυτου
13 Has it not been revealed to you, my lord, what I did when Jezebel was killing the prophets of the Lord: how I hid one hundred men from the prophets of the Lord, fifty and fifty, in caves, and how I fed them with bread and water?	13 η ουκ απηγγελη σοι τω κυριω μου οια πεποιηκα εν τω αποκτεινειν ιεζαβελ τους προφητας κυριου και εκρυψα απο των προφητων κυριου εκατον ανδρας ανα πεντηκοντα εν σπηλαιω και εθρεψα εν αρτοις και υδατι
14 And now you say: ‘Go and tell your lord that Elijah is here,’ so that he may kill me!”	14 και νυν συ λεγεις μοι πορευου λεγε τω κυριω σου ιδου ηλιου και αποκτενει με
15 And Elijah said, “As the Lord of hosts lives, before whose face I stand, this day I will appear to him.”	15 και ειπεν ηλιου ζη κυριος των δυναμεων ω παρεστην ενωπιον αυτου οτι σημερον οφθησομαι αυτω
16 Therefore, Obadiah went away to meet Ahab, and he reported to him. And Ahab went to meet Elijah.	16 και επορευθη αβδιου εις συναντην τω αχααβ και απηγγειλεν αυτω και εξεδραμεν αχααβ και επορευθη εις συναντησιν ηλιου
17 And when he had seen him, he said, “Are you the one who is disturbing Israel?”	17 και εγενετο ως ειδεν αχααβ τον ηλιου και ειπεν αχααβ προς ηλιου ει συ ει αυτος ο διαστρεφων τον ισραηλ
18 And he said: “I have not troubled Israel. But it is you, and the house of your father, who have abandoned the commandments of the Lord, and have followed the Baals.	18 και ειπεν ηλιου ου διαστρεφω τον ισραηλ οτι αλλ' η συ και ο οικος του πατρος σου εν τω καταλιμπανειν υμας τον κυριον θεον υμων και επορευθης οπισω των βααλιμ
19 Yet truly now, send and gather to me all of Israel, on Mount Carmel, with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of the sacred groves, who eat from the table of Jezebel.”	19 και νυν αποστειλον συναθροισον προς με παντα ισραηλ εις ορος το καρμηλιον και τους προφητας της αισχυνης τετρακοσιους και πεντηκοντα και τους προφητας των αλσων τετρακοσιους εσθιοντας τραπεζαν ιεζαβελ
20 Ahab sent to all the sons of Israel, and he gathered together the prophets on mount Carmel.	20 και απεστειλεν αχααβ εις παντα ισραηλ και επισυνηγαγεν παντας τους προφητας εις ορος το καρμηλιον
21 Then Elijah, drawing near to all the people, said: “How long will you waver between two sides? If the Lord is God, follow him. But if Baal is, then follow him.” And the people did not respond a word to him.	21 και προσηγαγεν ηλιου προς παντας και ειπεν αυτοις ηλιου εως ποτε υμεις χωλανειτε επ' αμφοτεραις ταις ιγνυαις ει εστιν κυριος ο θεος πορευεσθε οπισω αυτου ει δε ο βααλ αυτος πορευεσθε οπισω αυτου και ουκ απεκριθη ο λαος λογον
22 And Elijah said again to the people: “I alone remain as a prophet of the Lord. But the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.	22 και ειπεν ηλιου προς τον λαον εγω υπολελειμμαι προφητης του κυριου μονωτατος και οι προφηται του βααλ τετρακοσιοι και πεντηκοντα ανδρες και οι προφηται του αλσους τετρακοσιοι
23 Let two oxen be given to us. And let them choose one ox for themselves, and, cutting it into pieces, let them set it on the wood. But they may not place fire under it. And I will prepare the other ox, and set it on the wood. But I will not place fire under it.	23 δοτωσαν ημιν δυο βοας και εκλεξασθωσαν εαυτοις τον ενα και μελισατωσαν και επιθετωσαν επι των ξυλων και πυρ μη επιθετωσαν και εγω ποιησω τον βουν τον αλλον και πυρ ου μη επιθω
24 Call upon the names of your gods. And I will call on the name of my Lord. And the God who will have heeded with fire, let him be God.” And in response, all the people said, “Excellent proposition.”	24 και βοατε εν ονοματι θεων υμων και εγω επικαλεσομαι εν ονοματι κυριου του θεου μου και εσται ο θεος ος εαν επακουση εν πυρι ουτος θεος και απεκριθησαν πας ο λαος και ειπον καλον το ρημα ο ελαλησας
25 Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal: “Choose for yourselves one ox, and prepare it first. For you are many. And call on the names of your gods, but do not place fire under it.”	25 και ειπεν ηλιου τοις προφηταις της αισχυνης εκλεξασθε εαυτοις τον μοσχον τον ενα και ποιησατε πρωτοι οτι πολλοι υμεις και επικαλεσασθε εν ονοματι θεου υμων και πυρ μη επιθητε
26 And when they had taken an ox, which he had given to them, they prepared it. And they called on the name of Baal, from morning even until midday, saying, “O Baal, heed us.” And there was no voice, nor did anyone respond. And so they leaped upon the altar that they had made.	26 και ελαβον τον μοσχον και εποιησαν και επεκαλουντο εν ονοματι του βααλ εκ πρωιθεν εως μεσημβριας και ειπον επακουσον ημων ο βααλ επακουσον ημων και ουκ ην φωνη και ουκ ην ακροασις και διετρεχον επι του θυσιαστηριου ου εποιησαν
27 And when it was now midday, Elijah ridiculed them, saying: “Cry out with a louder voice. For he is a god, and perhaps he is talking, or at an inn, or on a journey, or certainly he may be asleep, and must be awakened.”	27 και εγενετο μεσημβρια και εμυκτηρισεν αυτους ηλιου ο θεσβιτης και ειπεν επικαλεισθε εν φωνη μεγαλη οτι θεος εστιν οτι αδολεσχια αυτω εστιν και αμα μηποτε χρηματιζει αυτος η μηποτε καθευδει αυτος και εξαναστησεται
28 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and they cut themselves, in accord with their ritual, with knives and lancets, until they were entirely covered in blood.	28 και επεκαλουντο εν φωνη μεγαλη και κατετεμνοντο κατα τον εθισμον αυτων εν μαχαιραις και σειρομασταις εως εκχυσεως αιματος επ' αυτους
29 Then, after midday had passed, and they were prophesying, the time had arrived when the sacrifice is usually offered. And there was no voice heard, neither did anyone heed or respond to the praying.	29 και επροφητευον εως ου παρηλθεν το δειλινον και εγενετο ως ο καιρος του αναβηναι την θυσιαν και ουκ ην φωνη και ελαλησεν ηλιου ο θεσβιτης προς τους προφητας των προσοχθισματων λεγων μεταστητε απο του νυν και εγω ποιησω το ολοκαυτωμα μου και μετεστησαν και απηλθον
30 Elijah said to all the people, “Draw near to me.” And as the people were drawing near to him, he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down.	30 και ειπεν ηλιου προς τον λαον προσαγαγετε προς με και προσηγαγεν πας ο λαος προς αυτον
31 And he took twelve stones, in accord with the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, “Israel shall be your name.”	31 και ελαβεν ηλιου δωδεκα λιθους κατ' αριθμον φυλων του ισραηλ ως ελαλησεν κυριος προς αυτον λεγων ισραηλ εσται το ονομα σου
32 And he built from the stones an altar to the name of the Lord. And he made a trench for water, like two furrows of plowed land, all around the altar.	32 και ωκοδομησεν τους λιθους εν ονοματι κυριου και ιασατο το θυσιαστηριον το κατεσκαμμενον και εποιησεν θααλα χωρουσαν δυο μετρητας σπερματος κυκλοθεν του θυσιαστηριου
33 And he arranged the wood, and he cut the ox into pieces, and he placed it on the wood.	33 και εστοιβασεν τας σχιδακας επι το θυσιαστηριον ο εποιησεν και εμελισεν το ολοκαυτωμα και επεθηκεν επι τας σχιδακας και εστοιβασεν επι το θυσιαστηριον
34 And he said, “Fill four containers with water, and pour it over the holocaust, and over the wood.” And again, he said, “Do this a second time.” And when they had done it a second time, he said, “Do it also a third time.” And they did so a third time.	34 και ειπεν λαβετε μοι τεσσαρας υδριας υδατος και επιχεετε επι το ολοκαυτωμα και επι τας σχιδακας και εποιησαν ουτως και ειπεν δευτερωσατε και εδευτερωσαν και ειπεν τρισσωσατε και ετρισσευσαν
35 And the water was running down around the altar, and the pit of the trench was filled with water.	35 και διεπορευετο το υδωρ κυκλω του θυσιαστηριου και την θααλα επλησαν υδατος
36 And when it was now time for the holocaust to be offered, the prophet Elijah, drawing near, said: “O Lord, God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Israel, reveal this day that you are the God of Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have acted, in all these things, in accord with your precept.	36 και ανεβοησεν ηλιου εις τον ουρανον και ειπεν κυριε ο θεος αβρααμ και ισαακ και ισραηλ επακουσον μου κυριε επακουσον μου σημερον εν πυρι και γνωτωσαν πας ο λαος ουτος οτι συ ει κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ καγω δουλος σου και δια σε πεποιηκα τα εργα ταυτα
37 Heed me, O Lord, heed me, so that this people may learn that you are the Lord God, and that you have converted their heart again.”	37 επακουσον μου κυριε επακουσον μου εν πυρι και γνωτω ο λαος ουτος οτι συ ει κυριος ο θεος και συ εστρεψας την καρδιαν του λαου τουτου οπισω
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell down and devoured the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and even the dust, and it absorbed the water that was in the trench.	38 και επεσεν πυρ παρα κυριου εκ του ουρανου και κατεφαγεν το ολοκαυτωμα και τας σχιδακας και το υδωρ το εν τη θααλα και τους λιθους και τον χουν εξελιξεν το πυρ
39 And when all the people had seen it, they fell upon their face, and they said: “The Lord himself is God! The Lord himself is God!”	39 και επεσεν πας ο λαος επι προσωπον αυτων και ειπον αληθως κυριος εστιν ο θεος αυτος ο θεος
40 And Elijah said to them, “Apprehend the prophets of Baal, and do not let even one of them escape.” And when they had apprehended them, Elijah led them down to the torrent Kishon, and he put them to death there.	40 και ειπεν ηλιου προς τον λαον συλλαβετε τους προφητας του βααλ μηθεις σωθητω εξ αυτων και συνελαβον αυτους και καταγει αυτους ηλιου εις τον χειμαρρουν κισων και εσφαξεν αυτους εκει
41 And Elijah said to Ahab “Ascend; eat and drink. For there is the sound of an abundance of rain.”	41 και ειπεν ηλιου τω αχααβ αναβηθι και φαγε και πιε οτι φωνη των ποδων του υετου
42 Ahab ascended, so that he might eat and drink. But Elijah ascended to the top of Carmel, and bending down to the ground, he placed his face between his knees.	42 και ανεβη αχααβ του φαγειν και πιειν και ηλιου ανεβη επι τον καρμηλον και εκυψεν επι την γην και εθηκεν το προσωπον εαυτου ανα μεσον των γονατων εαυτου
43 And he said to his servant, “Ascend, and gaze out toward the sea.” And when he had ascended, and had contemplated, he said, “There is nothing.” And again, he said to him, “Return seven times.”	43 και ειπεν τω παιδαριω αυτου αναβηθι και επιβλεψον οδον της θαλασσης και επεβλεψεν το παιδαριον και ειπεν ουκ εστιν ουθεν και ειπεν ηλιου και συ επιστρεψον επτακι και επεστρεψεν το παιδαριον επτακι
44 And at the seventh time, behold, a little cloud ascended from the sea like the footstep of a man. And he said: “Ascend, and say to Ahab, ‘Yoke your chariot, and descend; otherwise, the rain may prevent you.’ ”	44 και εγενετο εν τω εβδομω και ιδου νεφελη μικρα ως ιχνος ανδρος αναγουσα υδωρ και ειπεν αναβηθι και ειπον τω αχααβ ζευξον το αρμα σου και καταβηθι μη καταλαβη σε ο υετος
45 And as he was turning himself this way and that, behold, the heavens were darkened, and there were clouds and wind, and a great rainstorm occurred. And so Ahab, going up, went away to Jezreel.	45 και εγενετο εως ωδε και ωδε και ο ουρανος συνεσκοτασεν νεφελαις και πνευματι και εγενετο υετος μεγας και εκλαιεν και επορευετο αχααβ εις ιεζραελ
46 And the hand of the Lord was upon Elijah. And cinching his waist, he ran before Ahab, until he arrived at Jezreel.	46 και χειρ κυριου επι τον ηλιου και συνεσφιγξεν την οσφυν αυτου και ετρεχεν εμπροσθεν αχααβ εως ιεζραελ
