1 About this time, God said to Jacob, “Arise and go up to Bethel, and live there, and make an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”	1 Dio disse a Giacobbe: "Alzati, va' a Betel e abita là; costruisci in quel luogo un altare al Dio che ti è apparso quando fuggivi Esaù, tuo fratello".
2 In truth, Jacob, having called together all his house, said: “Cast away the foreign gods that are in your midst and be cleansed, and also change your garments.	2 Allora Giacobbe disse alla sua famiglia e a quanti erano con lui: "Eliminate gli dèi stranieri che avete con voi, purificatevi e cambiate gli abiti.
3 Arise, and let us go up to Bethel, so that we may make an altar there to God, who heeded me in the day of my tribulation, and who accompanied me on my journey.”	3 Poi alziamoci e andiamo a Betel, dove io costruirò un altare al Dio che mi ha esaudito al tempo della mia angoscia e che è stato con me nel cammino che ho percorso".
4 Therefore, they gave him all the foreign gods which they had, and the earrings which were in their ears. And then he buried them under the terebinth tree, which is beyond the city of Shechem.	4 Essi consegnarono a Giacobbe tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano e i pendenti che avevano agli orecchi; Giacobbe li sotterrò sotto la quercia presso Sichem.
5 And when they had set out, the terror of God invaded all the surrounding cities, and they dared not pursue them as they withdrew.	5 Poi levarono l'accampamento e un terrore molto forte assalì i popoli che stavano attorno a loro, così che non inseguirono i figli di Giacobbe.
6 And so, Jacob arrived at Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, also named Bethel: he and all the people with him.	6 Giacobbe e tutta la gente ch'era con lui arrivarono a Luz, cioè Betel, che è nel paese di Canaan.
7 And he built an altar there, and he called the name of that place, ‘House of God.’ For there God appeared to him when he fled from his brother.	7 Qui egli costruì un altare e chiamò quel luogo "El-Betel", perché là Dio gli si era rivelato, quando sfuggiva al fratello.
8 About the same time, Deborah, the nurse of Rebekah, died, and she was buried at the base of Bethel, under an oak tree. And the name of that place was called, ‘Oak of Weeping.’	8 Allora morì Dèbora, la nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al disotto di Betel, ai piedi della quercia, che perciò si chiamò Quercia del Pianto.
9 Then God appeared again to Jacob, after he returned from Mesopotamia of Syria, and he blessed him,	9 Dio apparve un'altra volta a Giacobbe, quando tornava da Paddan-Aram, e lo benedisse.
10 saying: “You will no longer be called Jacob, for your name shall be Israel.” And he called him Israel,	10 Dio gli disse: "Il tuo nome è Giacobbe. Non ti chiamerai più Giacobbe, ma Israele sarà il tuo nome". Così lo si chiamò Israele.
11 and he said to him: “I am Almighty God: increase and multiply. Tribes and peoples of nations will be from you, and kings will go forth from your loins.	11 Dio gli disse: "Io sono Dio onnipotente. Sii fecondo e diventa numeroso, popolo e assemblea di popoli verranno da te, re usciranno dai tuoi fianchi.
12 And the land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to you, and to your offspring after you.”	12 Il paese che ho concesso ad Abramo e a Isacco darò a te e alla tua stirpe dopo di te darò il paese".
13 And he withdrew from him.	13 Dio scomparve da lui, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato.
14 In truth, he set up a monument of stone, in the place where God had spoken to him, pouring out libations over it, and pouring oil,	14 Allora Giacobbe eresse una stele, dove gli aveva parlato, una stele di pietra, e su di essa fece una libazione e versò olio.
15 and he called the name of that place, ‘Bethel.’	15 Giacobbe chiamò Betel il luogo dove Dio gli aveva parlato.
16 Then, departing from there, he arrived in springtime at the land that leads to Ephrath. And there, when Rachel was giving birth,	16 Poi levarono l'accampamento da Betel. Mancava ancora un tratto di cammino per arrivare ad Èfrata, quando Rachele partorì ed ebbe un parto difficile.
17 because it was a difficult birth, she began to be in danger. And the midwife said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you will have this son also.”	17 Mentre penava a partorire, la levatrice le disse: "Non temere: anche questo è un figlio!".
18 Then, when her life was departing because of the pain, and death was now imminent, she called the name of her son Benoni, that is, the son of my pain. Yet truly, his father called him Benjamin, that is, the son of the right hand.	18 Mentre esalava l'ultimo respiro, perché stava morendo, essa lo chiamò Ben-Oni, ma suo padre lo chiamò Beniamino.
19 And so Rachel died, and she was buried in the way that leads to Ephrath: this place is Bethlehem.	19 Così Rachele morì e fu sepolta lungo la strada verso Èfrata, cioè Betlemme.
20 And Jacob erected a monument over her sepulcher. This is the monument to Rachel’s tomb, even to the present day.	20 Giacobbe eresse sulla sua tomba una stele. Questa stele della tomba di Rachele esiste fino ad oggi.
21 Departing from there, he pitched his tent beyond the Tower of the Flock.	21 Poi Israele levò l'accampamento e piantò la tenda al di là di Migdal-Eder.
22 And when he was living in that region, Reuben went out, and he slept with Bilhah the concubine of his father, which was not such a small matter as to be hidden from him. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.	22 Mentre Israele abitava in quel paese, Ruben andò a unirsi con Bila, concubina del padre, e Israele lo venne a sapere. I figli di Giacobbe furono dodici.
23 The sons of Leah: Reuben the first born, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.	23 I figli di Lia: il primogenito di Giacobbe, Ruben, poi Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Ìssacar e Zàbulon.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 I figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.
25 The sons of Bilhah, handmaid of Rachel: Dan and Naphtali.	25 I figli di Bila, schiava di Rachele: Dan e Nèftali.
26 The sons of Zilpah, handmaid of Leah: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.	26 I figli di Zilpa, schiava di Lia: Gad e Aser. Questi sono i figli di Giacobbe che gli nacquero in Paddan-Aram.
27 And then he went to his father Isaac in Mamre, the city of Arba: this place is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.	27 Poi Giacobbe venne da suo padre Isacco a Mamre, a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, dove Abramo e Isacco avevano soggiornato come forestieri.
28 And the days of Isaac were completed: one hundred and eighty years.	28 Isacco raggiunse l'età di centottat'anni.
29 And being consumed by old age, he died. And he was placed with his people, being old and full of days. And his sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him.	29 Poi Isacco spirò, morì e si riunì al suo parentado, vecchio e sazio di giorni. Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Esaù e Giacobbe.
