Hosea 11

1 When Israel was a child I loved him, out of Egypt I called my son.	1 Israele era giovane e io lo amai e dall'Egitto io chiamai mio figlio.
2 The more I called them, the farther they went from me, Sacrificing to the Baals and burning incense to idols.	2 Io li ho chiamati ma essi si sono allontanati da me; hanno sacrificato ai Baal e agli idoli hanno bruciato l'incenso.
3 Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, who took them in my arms;	3 bMa essi non si sono resi conto che ero io ad aver cura di loro.
4 I drew them with human cords, with bands of love; I fostered them like one who raises an infant to his cheeks; Yet, though I stooped to feed my child, they did not know that I was their healer.	4 con legami pieni di umanità li attiravo, con vincoli amorosi; per loro ero come chi leva il giogo dal collo; mi piegavo su di lui per dargli il cibo.
5 He shall return to the land of Egypt, and Assyria shall be his king;	5 Egli ritornerà in terra d'Egitto e Assur sarà il suo re, perché hanno ricusato di tornare a me!
6 The sword shall begin with his cities and end by consuming his solitudes. Because they refused to repent, their own counsels shall devour them.	6 La spada porterà il lutto nelle sue città, sterminerà i suoi figli, li divorerà per i loro perversi consigli!
7 His people are in suspense about returning to him; and God, though in unison they cry out to him, shall not raise them up.	7 Il mio popolo è malato d'infedeltà! Essi invocano Baal, ma costui non li rialzerà!
8 How could I give you up, O Ephraim, or deliver you up, O Israel? How could I treat you as Admah, or make you like Zeboiim? My heart is overwhelmed, my pity is stirred.	8 Come ti posso abbandonare, Efraim, lasciarti in balìa di altri, Israele? Come posso trattarti come Admà, considerarti come Zeboìm? Si sconvolge dentro di me il mio cuore e le mie viscere si riscaldano tutte.
9 I will not give vent to my blazing anger, I will not destroy Ephraim again; For I am God and not man, the Holy One present among you; I will not let the flames consume you.	9 Non sfogherò il bollore della mia ira, non distruggerò più Efraim, perché io sono Dio e non un uomo, sono il Santo in mezzo a te che non ama distruggere!
10 They shall follow the LORD, who roars like a lion; When he roars, his sons shall come frightened from the west,	10 Essi seguiranno il Signore; egli ruggirà come un leone; sì, egli ruggirà e accorreranno i figli dall'occidente.
11 Out of Egypt they shall come trembling, like sparrows, from the land of Assyria, like doves; And I will resettle them in their homes, says the LORD.	11 Accorreranno come un uccello dall'Egitto e come una colomba dal paese d'Assiria e li farò abitare nelle loro case. Oracolo del Signore.
