Jeremiah 7

1 The following message came to Jeremiah from the LORD:	1 Palabra que llegó de parte de Yahveh a Jeremías:
2 Stand at the gate of the house of the LORD, and there proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah who enter these gates to worship the LORD!	2 Párate en la puerta de la Casa de Yahveh y proclamarás allí esta palabra. Dirás: Oíd la palabra de Yahveh, todo Judá, los que entráis por estas puertas a postraros ante Yahveh.
3 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Reform your ways and your deeds, so that I may remain with you in this place.	3 Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: Mejorad de conducta y de obras, y yo haré que os quedéis en este lugar.
4 Put not your trust in the deceitful words: "This is the temple of the LORD! The temple of the LORD! The temple of the LORD!"	4 No fiéis en palabras engañosas diciendo: «¡Templo de Yahveh, Templo de Yahveh, Templo de Yahveh es éste!»
5 Only if you thoroughly reform your ways and your deeds; if each of you deals justly with his neighbor;	5 Porque si mejoráis realmente vuestra conducta y obras, si realmente hacéis justicia mutua
6 if you no longer oppress the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place, or follow strange gods to your own harm,	6 y no oprimís al forastero, al huérfano y a la viuda (y no vertéis sangre inocente en este lugar), ni andáis en pos de otros dioses para vuestro daño,
7 will I remain with you in this place, in the land which I gave your fathers long ago and forever.	7 entonces yo me quedaré con vosotros en este lugar, en la tierra que di a vuestros padres desde siempre hasta siempre.
8 But here you are, putting your trust in deceitful words to your own loss!	8 Pero he aquí que vosotros fiáis en palabras engañosas que de nada sirven,
9 Are you to steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal, go after strange gods that you know not,	9 para robar, matar, adulterar, jurar en falso, incensar a Baal y seguir a otros dioses que no conocíais.
10 and yet come to stand before me in this house which bears my name, and say: "We are safe; we can commit all these abominations again"?	10 Luego venís y os paráis ante mí en esta Casa llamada por mi Nombre y decís: «¡Estamos seguros!», para seguir haciendo todas esas abominaciones.
11 Has this house which bears my name become in your eyes a den of thieves? I too see what is being done, says the LORD.	11 ¿En cueva de bandoleros se ha convertido a vuestros ojos esta Casa que se llama por mi Nombre? ¡Que bien visto lo tengo! - oráculo de Yahveh -.
12 You may go to Shiloh, which I made the dwelling place of my name in the beginning. See what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.	12 Pues andad ahora a mi lugar de Silo, donde aposenté mi Nombre antiguamente, y ved lo que hice con él ante la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.
13 And now, because you have committed all these misdeeds, says the LORD, because you did not listen, though I spoke to you untiringly; because you did not answer, though I called you,	13 Y ahora, por haber hecho vosotros todo esto - oráculo de Yahveh - por más que os hablé asiduamente, aunque no me oísteis, y os llamé, mas no respondisteis,
14 I will do to this house named after me, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, just as I did to Shiloh.	14 yo haré con la Casa que se llama por mi Nombre, en la que confiáis, y con el lugar que os di a vosotros y a vuestros padres, como hice con Silo,
15 I will cast you away from me, as I cast away all your brethren, all the offspring of Ephraim.	15 y os echaré de mi presencia como eché a todos vuestros hermanos, a toda la descendencia de Efraím.
16 You, now, do not intercede for this people; raise not in their behalf a pleading prayer! Do not urge me, for I will not listen to you.	16 En cuanto a ti, no pidas por este pueblo ni eleves por ellos plegaria ni oración, ni me insistas, porque no te oiré.
17 Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem?	17 ¿Es que no ves lo que ellos hacen en las ciudades de Judá y por las calles de Jerusalén?
18 The children gather wood, their fathers light the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven, while libations are poured out to strange gods in order to hurt me.	18 Los hijos recogen leña, los padres prenden fuego, las mujeres amasan para hacer tortas a la Reina de los Cielos, y se liba en honor de otros dioses para exasperarme.
19 Is it I whom they hurt, says the LORD; is it not rather themselves, to their own confusion?	19 ¿A mí me exasperan ésos? - oráculo de Yahveh -, ¿no es a sí mismos, para vergüenza de sus rostros?
20 See now, says the Lord GOD, my anger and my wrath will pour out upon this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruits of the earth; it will burn without being quenched.	20 Por tanto, así dice el Señor Yahveh: He aquí que mi ira y mi saña se vuelca sobre este lugar, sobre hombres y bestias bestias, sobre los árboles del campo y el fruto del suelo; arderá y no se apagará.
21 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Heap your holocausts upon your sacrifices; eat up the flesh!	21 Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel. Añadid vuestros holocaustos a vuestros sacrificios y comeos la carne.
22 In speaking to your fathers on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I gave them no command concerning holocaust or sacrifice.	22 Que cuando yo saqué a vuestros padres del país de Egipto, no les hablé ni les mandé nada tocante a holocausto y sacrificio.
23 This rather is what I commanded them: Listen to my voice; then I will be your God and you shall be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper.	23 Lo que les mandé fue esto otro: «Escuchad mi voz y yo seré vuestro Dios y vosotros seréis mi pueblo, y seguiréis todo camino que yo os mandare, para que os vaya bien».
24 But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed. They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts and turned their backs, not their faces, to me.	24 Mas ellos no escucharon ni prestaron el oído, sino que procedieron en sus consejos según la pertinacia de su mal corazón, y se pusieron de espaldas, que no de cara;
25 From the day that your fathers left the land of Egypt even to this day, I have sent you untiringly all my servants the prophets.	25 desde la fecha en que salieron vuestros padres del país de Egipto hasta el día de hoy, os envié a todos mis siervos, los profetas, cada día puntualmente.
26 Yet they have not obeyed me nor paid heed; they have stiffened their necks and done worse than their fathers.	26 Pero no me escucharon ni aplicaron el oído, sino que atiesando la cerviz hicieron peor que sus padres.
27 When you speak all these words to them, they will not listen to you either; when you call to them, they will not answer you.	27 Les dirás, pues, todas estas palabras, mas no te escucharán. Les llamarás y no te responderán.
28 Say to them: This is the nation which does not listen to the voice of the LORD, its God, or take correction. Faithfulness has disappeared; the word itself is banished from their speech.	28 Entonces les dirás: Esta es la nación que no ha escuchado la voz de Yahveh su Dios, ni ha querido aprender. Ha perecido la lealtad, ha desaparecido de su boca.
29 Cut off your dedicated hair and throw it away! on the heights intone an elegy; For the LORD has rejected and cast off the generation that draws down his wrath.	29 Córtate tus guedejas y tíralas, y entona por los calveros una elegía; que Yahveh ha desechado y repudiado a la generación objeto de su cólera.
30 The people of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes, says the LORD. They have defiled the house which bears my name by setting up in it their abominable idols.	30 Los hijos de Judá han hecho lo que me parece malo - oráculo de Yahveh -: han puesto sus Monstruos abominables en la Casa que llaman por mi Nombre profanándola,
31 In the Valley of Ben-hinnom they have built the high place of Topheth to immolate in fire their sons and their daughters, such a thing as I never commanded or had in mind.	31 y han construido los altos de Tófet - que está en el valle de Ben Hinnom - para quemar a sus hijos e hijas en el fuego, cosa que nos les mandé ni me pasó por las mientes.
32 Therefore, beware! days will come, says the LORD, when Topheth and the Valley of Ben-hinnom will no longer be called such, but rather the Valley of Slaughter. For lack of space, Topheth will be a burial place.	32 Por tanto, he aquí que vienen días - oráculo de Yahveh - en que no se hablará más de Tófet, ni del valle de Ben Hinnom, sino del “valle de la Matanza”. Se harán enterramientos en Tófet por falta de sitio,
33 The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the sky and for the beasts of the field, which no one will drive away.	33 y los cadáveres de este pueblo servirán de comida a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra, sin que haya quien las espante.
34 In the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem I will silence the cry of joy, the cry of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will be turned to rubble.	34 Suspenderé en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén toda voz de gozo y alegría, la voz del novio y la voz de la novia; porque toda la tierra quedará desolada.
