1 If a man sends away his wife and, after leaving him, she marries another man, Does the first husband come back to her? Would not the land be wholly defiled? But you have sinned with many lovers, and yet you would return to me! says the LORD.	1 Quand un homme a renvoyé sa femme et que celle-ci, après l’avoir quitté, a été la femme d’un autre, peut-elle revenir vers lui? N’est-elle pas maintenant comme impure pour lui? Or toi tu t’es prostituée avec de nombreux amants; tu voudrais maintenant revenir vers moi? - parole de Yahvé.
2 Lift your eyes to the heights, and see, where have men not lain with you? By the waysides you waited for them like an Arab in the desert. You defiled the land by your wicked harlotry.	2 Lève les yeux vers les monts chauves et regarde: partout tu t’es prostituée. Comme l’Arabe dans le désert tu t’asseyais pour eux au bord de la route. Tu as profané le pays par tes prostitutions et tes méfaits.
3 Therefore the showers were withheld, the spring rain failed. But because you have a harlot's brow, you refused to blush.	3 C’est pourquoi les pluies de l’automne ont été retenues et celles du printemps ont manqué, mais toi, effrontée comme une prostituée, tu as refusé de rougir.
4 Even now do you not call me, "My father, you who are the bridegroom of my youth"?	4 Maintenant tu oses me dire: “Mon Père! C’est toi l’ami de ma jeunesse!
5 "Will he keep his wrath forever, will he hold his grudge to the end?" This is what you say; yet you do all the evil you can.	5 Seras-tu toujours fâché contre moi, ta colère ne va donc pas finir?” Et pendant que tu dis cela, tu continues tes crimes!
6 The LORD said to me in the days of King Josiah: See now what rebellious Israel has done! She has gone up every high mountain, and under every green tree she has played the harlot.	6 Yahvé me dit ceci au temps du roi Josias: “Sais-tu bien ce que faisait la rebelle Israël? Elle courait se prostituer sur les hauteurs, sous les arbres verts.
7 And I thought, after she has done all this she will return to me. But she did not return. Then, even though her traitor sister Judah saw	7 Je me disais: Après avoir fait tout cela, elle reviendra vers moi. Mais elle n’est pas revenue. Juda, sa sœur perfide, l’a vu;
8 that for all the adulteries rebellious Israel had committed, I put her away and gave her a bill of divorce, nevertheless her traitor sister Judah was not frightened; she too went off and played the harlot.	8 elle a vu aussi comment je renvoyais la rebelle Israël à cause de tous ses adultères et comment je signais son acte de divorce. Mais Juda la perfide, sa sœur, n’a pas eu peur; elle aussi est allée se prostituer.
9 Eager to sin, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and wood.	9 Elle a souillé le pays par sa prostitution scandaleuse; elle aussi a commis l’adultère avec le bois et la pierre.
10 With all this, the traitor sister Judah did not return to me wholeheartedly, but insincerely, says the LORD.	10 Et après l’avoir fait, Juda la perfide n’est pas revenue vers moi de tout son cœur, mais comme une hypocrite - parole de Yahvé.”
11 Then the LORD said to me: Rebel Israel is inwardly more just than traitorous Judah.	11 C’est pourquoi - c’est Yahvé qui parle, la rebelle Israël est meilleure que Juda, la perfide.
12 Go, proclaim these words toward the north, and say: Return, rebel Israel, says the LORD, I will not remain angry with you; For I am merciful, says the LORD, I will not continue my wrath forever.	12 Tu peux lancer cet appel vers les pays du nord: “Reviens, rebelle Israël - parole de Yahvé. Je ne vous montrerai plus un visage sévère, car je suis bienveillant - parole de Yahvé, et ma colère n’est pas sans fin.
13 Only know your guilt: how you rebelled against the LORD, your God, How you ran hither and yon to strangers (under every green tree) and would not listen to my voice, says the LORD.	13 Seulement reconnais ta faute: tu t’es révoltée contre Yahvé ton Dieu et tu as couru de tous côtés après les étrangers, sous tout arbre vert. Et vous n’avez pas écouté ma voix - parole de Yahvé.”
14 Return, rebellious children, says the LORD, for I am your Master; I will take you, one from a city, two from a clan, and bring you to Zion.	14 Revenez, fils infidèles, car je suis votre Maître - parole de Yahvé. Je vous prendrai, l’un d’une ville, deux d’une famille, et je vous ramènerai à Sion.
15 I will appoint over you shepherds after my own heart, who will shepherd you wisely and prudently.	15 Je vous donnerai des bergers comme je les aime, qui vous feront paître avec intelligence et sagesse.
16 When you multiply and become fruitful in the land, says the LORD, They will in those days no longer say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD!" They will no longer think of it, or remember it, or miss it, or make another.	16 En ces jours-là vous vous multiplierez, vous serez nombreux dans le pays - parole de Yahvé; alors on ne parlera plus de l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé. On l’aura oubliée, on ne s’en souviendra plus; on ne la regrettera pas et on ne cherchera pas à en faire une autre.
17 At that time they will call Jerusalem the LORD'S throne; there all nations will be gathered together to honor the name of the LORD at Jerusalem, and they will walk no longer in their hardhearted wickedness.	17 C’est qu’en ce temps-là on appellera Jérusalem: le Trône de Yahvé. Là se rassembleront toutes les nations; elles ne suivront plus constamment leurs penchants mauvais.
18 In those days the house of Judah will join the house of Israel; together they will come from the land of the north to the land which I gave to your fathers as a heritage.	18 En ces jours-là les gens de Juda feront la route avec ceux d’Israël; ils reviendront ensemble du pays du nord à la terre que j’ai donnée en héritage à vos pères.
19 I had thought: How I should like to treat you as sons, And give you a pleasant land, a heritage most beautiful among the nations! You would call me, "My Father," I thought, and never cease following me.	19 Je m’étais dit: “Comment te mettrai-je au rang de mes enfants? Je te donnerai un pays agréable et le plus bel héritage au milieu des nations.” Je me disais: Tu m’appelleras: “Mon Père”, et vous ne vous éloignerez pas de moi.
20 But like a woman faithless to her lover, even so have you been faithless to me, O house of Israel, says the LORD.	20 Mais comme une femme trahit son amant, vous aussi vous m’avez été infidèles, maison d’Israël - parole de Yahvé.
21 A cry is heard on the heights! the plaintive weeping of Israel's children, Because they have perverted their ways and forgotten the LORD, their God.	21 Sur les collines déboisées on entend un bruit, ce sont les cris et les supplications des enfants d’Israël. Ils s’étaient égarés en chemin, ils avaient oublié Yahvé leur Dieu.
22 Return, rebellious children, and I will cure you of your rebelling. "Here we are, we now come to you because you are the LORD, our God.	22 Revenez, fils infidèles, je guérirai votre infidélité! “Nous voici, nous revenons vers toi, car tu es Yahvé notre Dieu.
23 Deceptive indeed are the hills, the thronging mountains; In the LORD, our God, alone is the salvation of Israel.	23 C’est vrai, tout ce bruit sur les collines et les montagnes n’était que mensonges, le salut d’Israël est en Yahvé notre Dieu.
24 The shame-god has devoured our fathers' toil from our youth, Their sheep and their cattle, their sons and their daughters.	24 Depuis notre jeunesse, les idoles ont dévoré le fruit du travail de nos pères: leurs brebis et leurs bœufs, leurs fils et leurs filles.
25 Let us lie down in our shame, let our disgrace cover us, for we have sinned against the LORD, our God, From our youth to this day, we and our fathers also; we listened not to the voice of the LORD, our God."	25 Notre honte colle à notre peau et nous sommes couverts de confusion! Nous et nos pères, depuis notre jeunesse et jusqu’à présent, nous avons péché contre Yahvé notre Dieu; nous n’avons pas écouté la voix de Yahvé notre Dieu.”
