1 Thus says the LORD: The heavens are my throne, the earth is my footstool. What kind of house can you build for me; what is to be my resting place?	1 Così parla il Signore: "Il cielo è il mio trono, e la terra è lo sgabello dei miei piedi. Quale casa mi costruirete e quale sarà il luogo del mio riposo?
2 My hand made all these things when all of them came to be, says the LORD. This is the one whom I approve: the lowly and afflicted man who trembles at my word.	2 Tutte queste cose le ha fatte la mia mano, esse sono mie, oracolo del Signore. Verso chi volgerò lo sguardo? Verso il povero, che ha spirito contrito e che trema alla mia parola.
3 Merely slaughtering an ox is like slaying a man; sacrificing a lamb, like breaking a dog's neck; Bringing a cereal offering, like offering swine's blood; burning incense, like paying homage to an idol. Since these have chosen their own ways and taken pleasure in their own abominations,	3 Chi immola un bue, uccide anche un uomo; chi sacrifica un agnello, strozza anche un cane; chi reca un'offerta, offre anche sangue di porco; chi brucia incenso, venera anche l'iniquità. Essi scelgono le loro vie e la loro anima si compiace delle loro abominazioni.
4 I in turn will choose ruthless treatment for them and bring upon them what they fear. Because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened; Because they did what was evil in my sight, and chose what gave me displeasure,	4 Così anch'io sceglierò le loro sventure e farò piombare su di essi ciò che temono, poiché ho chiamato e nessuno rispose, parlai e nessuno ascoltò. Commisero ciò che è male ai miei occhi e scelsero ciò in cui non mi compiaccio".
5 Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: Your brethren who, because of my name, hate and reject you, say, "Let the LORD show his glory that we may see your joy"; but they shall be put to shame.	5 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, voi che tremate alla sua parola! Dissero i vostri fratelli, che vi odiano, che vi respingono a causa del mio nome: "Si mostri il Signore nella sua gloria e possiamo vedere la vostra gioia!". Ma essi saranno confusi.
6 A sound of roaring from the city, a sound from the temple, The sound of the LORD repaying his enemies their deserts!	6 Una voce, un frastuono viene dalla città, una voce viene dal tempio; la voce del Signore, che ripaga i suoi nemici.
7 Before she comes to labor, she gives birth; Before the pains come upon her, she safely delivers a male child.	7 Prima delle doglie essa ha partorito; prima di essere sorpresa dai dolori si è sgravata di un maschio.
8 Who ever heard of such a thing, or saw the like? Can a country be brought forth in one day, or a nation be born in a single moment? Yet Zion is scarcely in labor when she gives birth to her children.	8 Chi ha mai udito una cosa simile? Chi vide cose come queste? E' forse un paese messo al mondo in un sol giorno? E' forse generata una nazione in un istante? Eppure Sion, appena entrata in doglie, partorì i suoi figli.
9 Shall I bring a mother to the point of birth, and yet not let her child be born? says the LORD; Or shall I who allow her to conceive, yet close her womb? says your God.	9 Forse che io, che apro il seno, non farò partorire?, dice il Signore. Forse che io, che faccio generare, chiuderò il seno?, dice il tuo Dio.
10 Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad because of her, all you who love her; Exult, exult with her, all you who were mourning over her!	10 Rallegratevi con Gerusalemme, esultate per essa, quanti l'amate! Gioite grandemente con essa, voi tutti che siete contristati per essa!
11 Oh, that you may suck fully of the milk of her comfort, That you may nurse with delight at her abundant breasts!	11 Affinché siate allattati e saziati alla mammella delle sue consolazioni, affinché succhiate e vi deliziate al seno della sua gloria.
12 For thus says the LORD: Lo, I will spread prosperity over her like a river, and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing torrent. As nurslings, you shall be carried in her arms, and fondled in her lap;	12 Poiché così parla il Signore: "Ecco, io convoglierò verso di essa la pace a guisa di fiume, come un torrente straripante la gloria delle nazioni. Voi succhierete e sarete portati in braccio, sarete accarezzati sulle ginocchia.
13 As a mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you; in Jerusalem you shall find your comfort.	13 Come un figlio che la madre consola, così anch'io vi consolerò; a Gerusalemme sarete consolati.
14 When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bodies flourish like the grass; The LORD'S power shall be known to his servants, but to his enemies, his wrath.	14 Vedrete e il vostro cuore gioirà, le vostre ossa prenderanno vigore come erba. La mano del Signore si farà conoscere ai suoi servi e la sua ira ai suoi nemici".
15 Lo, the LORD shall come in fire, his chariots like the whirlwind, To wreak his wrath with burning heat and his punishment with fiery flames.	15 Sì, ecco il Signore viene col fuoco, i suoi carri sono come un turbine, per riversare con sdegno la sua ira e la sua minaccia con fiamme di fuoco.
16 For the LORD shall judge all mankind by fire and sword. and many shall be slain by the LORD.	16 Sì, il Signore farà giustizia con il fuoco e con la spada su ogni uomo; numerose saranno le vittime del Signore.
17 They who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the groves, as followers of one who stands within, they who eat swine's flesh, loathsome things and mice, shall all perish with their deeds and their thoughts, says the LORD.	17 Quanti si santificano e si purificano, seguendo nei giardini uno che sta nel mezzo, che mangiano carne suina, abominazioni e topi, insieme finiranno, oracolo del Signore,
18 I come to gather nations of every language; they shall come and see my glory.	18 con le loro opere e i loro pensieri. "Io verrò a raccogliere tutte le nazioni e tutte le lingue; essi verranno e vedranno la mia gloria.
19 I will set a sign among them; from them I will send fugitives to the nations: to Tarshish, Put and Lud, Mosoch, Tubal and Javan, to the distant coastlands that have never heard of my fame, or seen my glory; and they shall proclaim my glory among the nations.	19 Darò loro un segno e invierò alcuni dei loro superstiti verso le nazioni: Tarsis, Put, Lud, Mesech, Ros, Tubal, Grecia, verso le isole lontane, che non hanno udito la mia fama e non hanno visto la mia gloria; essi annunceranno la mia gloria tra le nazioni.
20 They shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an offering to the LORD, on horses and in chariots, in carts, upon mules and dromedaries, to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the LORD, just as the Israelites bring their offering to the house of the LORD in clean vessels.	20 Ricondurranno tutti i vostri fratelli da tutte le nazioni come offerta al Signore, su cavalli, su carri, su portantine, su muli e dromedari, al mio santo monte di Gerusalemme, dice il Signore, come i figli d'Israele portano l'offerta in vasi puri al tempio del Signore.
21 Some of these I will take as priests and Levites, says the LORD.	21 Anche da essi mi prenderò dei sacerdoti e dei leviti", dice il Signore.
22 As the new heavens and the new earth which I will make Shall endure before me, says the LORD, so shall your race and your name endure.	22 "Sì, come i nuovi cieli e la nuova terra, che io farò, sussistono al mio cospetto, oracolo del Signore, così perdurerà la vostra discendenza e il vostro nome.
23 From one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, All mankind shall come to worship before me, says the LORD.	23 Da novilunio a novilunio e da sabato a sabato ognuno verrà ad adorare davanti a me, dice il Signore.
24 They shall go out and see the corpses of the men who rebelled against me; Their worm shall not die, nor their fire be extinguished; and they shall be abhorrent to all mankind.	24 Uscendo vedranno i cadaveri degli uomini che si sono ribellati contro di me; poiché il loro verme non morirà, il loro fuoco non si estinguerà e saranno un orrore per tutti".
