Isaiah 41

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	LXX
1 Keep silence before me, O coastlands; you peoples, wait for my words! Let them draw near and speak; let us come together for judgment.	1 εγκαινιζεσθε προς με νησοι οι γαρ αρχοντες αλλαξουσιν ισχυν εγγισατωσαν και λαλησατωσαν αμα τοτε κρισιν αναγγειλατωσαν
2 Who has stirred up from the East the champion of justice, and summoned him to be his attendant? To him he delivers the nations and subdues the kings; With his sword he reduces them to dust, with his bow, to driven straw.	2 τις εξηγειρεν απο ανατολων δικαιοσυνην εκαλεσεν αυτην κατα ποδας αυτου και πορευσεται δωσει εναντιον εθνων και βασιλεις εκστησει και δωσει εις γην τας μαχαιρας αυτων και ως φρυγανα εξωσμενα τα τοξα αυτων
3 He pursues them, passing on without loss, by a path his feet do not even tread.	3 και διωξεται αυτους και διελευσεται εν ειρηνη η οδος των ποδων αυτου
4 Who has performed these deeds? He who has called forth the generations since the beginning. I, the LORD, am the first, and with the last I will also be.	4 τις ενηργησεν και εποιησεν ταυτα εκαλεσεν αυτην ο καλων αυτην απο γενεων αρχης εγω θεος πρωτος και εις τα επερχομενα εγω ειμι
5 The coastlands see, and fear; the ends of the earth tremble: these things are near, they come to pass.	5 ειδοσαν εθνη και εφοβηθησαν τα ακρα της γης ηγγισαν και ηλθοσαν αμα
	6 κρινων εκαστος τω πλησιον και τω αδελφω βοηθησαι και ερει
	7 ισχυσεν ανηρ τεκτων και χαλκευς τυπτων σφυρη αμα ελαυνων ποτε μεν ερει συμβλημα καλον εστιν ισχυρωσαν αυτα εν ηλοις θησουσιν αυτα και ου κινηθησονται
8 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend--	8 συ δε ισραηλ παις μου ιακωβ ον εξελεξαμην σπερμα αβρααμ ον ηγαπησα
9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth and summoned from its far-off places, You whom I have called my servant, whom I have chosen and will not cast off--	9 ου αντελαβομην απ' ακρων της γης και εκ των σκοπιων αυτης εκαλεσα σε και ειπα σοι παις μου ει εξελεξαμην σε και ουκ εγκατελιπον σε
10 Fear not, I am with you; be not dismayed; I am your God. I will strengthen you, and help you, and uphold you with my right hand of justice.	10 μη φοβου μετα σου γαρ ειμι μη πλανω εγω γαρ ειμι ο θεος σου ο ενισχυσας σε και εβοηθησα σοι και ησφαλισαμην σε τη δεξια τη δικαια μου
11 Yes, all shall be put to shame and disgrace who vent their anger against you; Those shall perish and come to nought who offer resistance.	11 ιδου αισχυνθησονται και εντραπησονται παντες οι αντικειμενοι σοι εσονται γαρ ως ουκ οντες και απολουνται παντες οι αντιδικοι σου
12 You shall seek out, but shall not find, those who strive against you; They shall be as nothing at all who do battle with you.	12 ζητησεις αυτους και ου μη ευρης τους ανθρωπους οι παροινησουσιν εις σε εσονται γαρ ως ουκ οντες και ουκ εσονται οι αντιπολεμουντες σε
13 For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, "Fear not, I will help you."	13 οτι εγω ο θεος σου ο κρατων της δεξιας σου ο λεγων σοι μη φοβου
14 Fear not, O worm Jacob, O maggot Israel; I will help you, says the LORD; your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.	14 ιακωβ ολιγοστος ισραηλ εγω εβοηθησα σοι λεγει ο θεος ο λυτρουμενος σε ισραηλ
15 I will make of you a threshing sledge, sharp, new, and double-edged, To thresh the mountains and crush them, to make the hills like chaff.	15 ιδου εποιησα σε ως τροχους αμαξης αλοωντας καινους πριστηροειδεις και αλοησεις ορη και λεπτυνεις βουνους και ως χνουν θησεις
16 When you winnow them, the wind shall carry them off and the storm shall scatter them. But you shall rejoice in the LORD, and glory in the Holy One of Israel.	16 και λικμησεις και ανεμος λημψεται αυτους και καταιγις διασπερει αυτους συ δε ευφρανθηση εν τοις αγιοις ισραηλ και αγαλλιασονται
17 The afflicted and the needy seek water in vain, their tongues are parched with thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.	17 οι πτωχοι και οι ενδεεις ζητησουσιν γαρ υδωρ και ουκ εσται η γλωσσα αυτων απο της διψης εξηρανθη εγω κυριος ο θεος εγω επακουσομαι ο θεος ισραηλ και ουκ εγκαταλειψω αυτους
18 I will open up rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the broad valleys; I will turn the desert into a marshland, and the dry ground into springs of water.	18 αλλα ανοιξω επι των ορεων ποταμους και εν μεσω πεδιων πηγας ποιησω την ερημον εις ελη και την διψωσαν γην εν υδραγωγοις
19 I will plant in the desert the cedar, acacia, myrtle, and olive; I will set in the wasteland the cypress, together with the plane tree and the pine,	19 θησω εις την ανυδρον γην κεδρον και πυξον και μυρσινην και κυπαρισσον και λευκην
20 That all may see and know, observe and understand, That the hand of the LORD has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.	20 ινα ιδωσιν και γνωσιν και εννοηθωσιν και επιστωνται αμα οτι χειρ κυριου εποιησεν ταυτα παντα και ο αγιος του ισραηλ κατεδειξεν
21 Present your case, says the LORD; bring forward your reasons, says the King of Jacob.	21 εγγιζει η κρισις υμων λεγει κυριος ο θεος ηγγισαν αι βουλαι υμων λεγει ο βασιλευς ιακωβ
22 Let them come near and foretell to us what it is that shall happen! What are the things of long ago? Tell us, that we may reflect on them And know their outcome; or declare to us the things to come!	22 εγγισατωσαν και αναγγειλατωσαν υμιν α συμβησεται η τα προτερα τινα ην ειπατε και επιστησομεν τον νουν και γνωσομεθα τι τα εσχατα και τα επερχομενα ειπατε ημιν
23 Foretell the things that shall come afterward, that we may know that you are gods! Do something, good or evil, that will put us in awe and in fear.	23 αναγγειλατε ημιν τα επερχομενα επ' εσχατου και γνωσομεθα οτι θεοι εστε ευ ποιησατε και κακωσατε και θαυμασομεθα και οψομεθα αμα
24 Why, you are nothing and your work is nought! To choose you is an abomination.	24 οτι ποθεν εστε υμεις και ποθεν η εργασια υμων εκ γης βδελυγμα εξελεξαντο υμας
25 I have stirred up one from the north, and he comes; from the east I summon him by name; He shall trample the rulers down like red earth, as the potter treads the clay.	25 εγω δε ηγειρα τον απο βορρα και τον αφ' ηλιου ανατολων κληθησονται τω ονοματι μου ερχεσθωσαν αρχοντες και ως πηλος κεραμεως και ως κεραμευς καταπατων τον πηλον ουτως καταπατηθησεσθε
26 Who announced this from the beginning, that we might know; beforehand, that we might say it is true? Not one of you foretold it, not one spoke; no one heard you say,	26 τις γαρ αναγγελει τα εξ αρχης ινα γνωμεν και τα εμπροσθεν και ερουμεν οτι αληθη εστιν ουκ εστιν ο προλεγων ουδε ο ακουων υμων τους λογους
27 "The first news for Zion: they are coming now," or, "For Jerusalem I will pick out a bearer of the glad tidings."	27 αρχην σιων δωσω και ιερουσαλημ παρακαλεσω εις οδον
28 When I look, there is not one, no one of them to give counsel, to make an answer when I question them.	28 απο γαρ των εθνων ιδου ουδεις και απο των ειδωλων αυτων ουκ ην ο αναγγελλων και εαν ερωτησω αυτους ποθεν εστε ου μη αποκριθωσιν μοι
29 Ah, all of them are nothing, their works are nought, their idols are empty wind!	29 εισιν γαρ οι ποιουντες υμας και ματην οι πλανωντες υμας
