NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
1 Oracle on Egypt: See, the LORD is riding on a swift cloud on his way to Egypt; The idols of Egypt tremble before him, the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them.1 Onus Ægypti. Ecce Dominus ascendet super nubem levem,
et ingredietur Ægyptum,
et commovebuntur simulacra Ægypti a facie ejus,
et cor Ægypti tabescet in medio ejus,
2 I will rouse Egypt against Egypt: brother will war against brother, Neighbor against neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kindgom.2 et concurrere faciam Ægyptios adversus Ægyptios ;
et pugnabit vir contra fratrem suum, et vir contra amicum suum,
civitas adversus civitatem, regnum adversus regnum.
3 The courage of the Egyptians ebbs away within them, and I will bring to nought their counsel; They shall consult idols and charmers, ghosts and spirits.3 Et dirumpetur spiritus Ægypti in visceribus ejus,
et consilium ejus præcipitabo ;
et interrogabunt simulacra sua, et divinos suos,
et pythones, et ariolos.
4 I will deliver Egypt into the power of a cruel master, A harsh king who shall rule over them, says the Lord, the LORD of hosts.4 Et tradam Ægyptum in manu dominorum crudelium,
et rex fortis dominabitur eorum,
ait Dominus Deus exercituum.
5 The waters shall be drained from the sea, the river shall shrivel and dry up;5 Et arescet aqua de mari,
et fluvius desolabitur atque siccabitur.
6 Its streams shall become foul, and the canals of Egypt shall dwindle and dry up. Reeds and rushes shall wither away,6 Et deficient flumina,
attenuabuntur et siccabuntur rivi aggerum,
calamus et juncus marcescet.
7 and bulrushes on the bank of the Nile; All the sown land along the Nile shall dry up and blow away, and be no more.7 Nudabitur alveus rivi a fonte suo,
et omnis sementis irrigua
siccabitur, arescet, et non erit.
8 The fishermen shall mourn and lament, all who cast hook in the Nile; Those who spread their nets in the water shall pine away.8 Et mœrebunt piscatores,
et lugebunt omnes mittentes in flumen hamum ;
et expandentes rete super faciem aquarum emarcescent.
9 The linen-workers shall be disappointed, the combers and weavers shall turn pale;9 Confundentur qui operabantur linum,
pectentes et texentes subtilia.
10 The spinners shall be crushed, all the hired laborers shall be despondent.10 Et erunt irrigua ejus flaccentia :
omnes qui faciebant lacunas ad capiendos pisces.
11 Utter fools are the princes of Zoan! the wisest of Pharaoh's advisers give stupid counsel. How can you say to Pharaoh, "I am a disciple of wise men, of ancient kings"?11 Stulti principes Taneos,
sapientes consiliarii Pharaonis
dederunt consilium insipiens.
Quomodo dicetis Pharaoni :
Filius sapientium ego,
filius regum antiquorum ?
12 Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you and make known What the LORD of hosts has planned against Egypt.12 Ubi nunc sunt sapientes tui ?
annuntient tibi, et indicent
quid cogitaverit Dominus exercituum super Ægyptum.
13 The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Memphis have been deceived. The chiefs of her tribes have led Egypt astray.13 Stulti facti sunt principes Taneos,
emarcuerunt principes Mempheos ;
deceperunt Ægyptum, angulum populorum ejus.
14 The LORD has prepared among them a spirit of dizziness, And they have made Egypt stagger in whatever she does, as a drunkard staggers in his vomit.14 Dominus miscuit in medio ejus spiritum vertiginis ;
et errare fecerunt Ægyptum in omni opere suo,
sicut errat ebrius et vomens.
15 Egypt shall have no work to do for head or tail, palm branch or reed.15 Et non erit Ægypto opus
quod faciat caput et caudam,
incurvantem et refrenantem.
16 On that day the Egyptians shall be like women, trembling with fear, because of the LORD of hosts shaking his fist at them.16 In die illa erit Ægyptus quasi mulieres ;
et stupebunt, et timebunt
a facie commotionis manus Domini exercituum,
quam ipse movebit super eam.
17 And the land of Judah shall be a terror to the Egyptians. Every time they remember Judah, they shall stand in dread because of the plan which the LORD of hosts has in mind for them.17 Et erit terra Juda
Ægypto in pavorem ;
omnis qui illius fuerit recordatus pavebit
a facie consilii Domini exercituum,
quod ipse cogitavit super eam.
18 On that day there shall be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan and swearing by the LORD of hosts; one shall be called "City of the Sun."18 In die illa erunt quinque civitates
in terra Ægypti
loquentes lingua Chanaan,
et jurantes per Dominum exercituum :
Civitas solis vocabitur una.
19 On that day there shall be an altar to the LORD in the land of Egypt, and a sacred pillar to the LORD near the boundary.19 In die illa erit altare Domini
in medio terræ Ægypti,
et titulus Domini juxta terminum ejus.
20 It shall be a sign and a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt, when they cry out to the LORD against their oppressors, and he sends them a savior to defend and deliver them.20 Erit in signum et in testimonium Domino exercituum
in terra Ægypti ;
clamabunt enim ad Dominum a facie tribulationis,
et mittet eis salvatorem
et propugnatorem qui liberet eos.
21 The LORD shall make himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day; they shall offer sacrifices and oblations, and fulfill the vows they make to the LORD.21 Et cognoscetur Dominus ab Ægypto,
et cognoscent Ægyptii Dominum
in die illa ;
et colent eum in hostiis et in muneribus ;
et vota vovebunt Domino, et solvent.
22 Although the LORD shall smite Egypt severely, he shall heal them; they shall turn to the LORD and he shall be won over and heal them.22 Et percutiet Dominus Ægyptum plaga,
et sanabit eam ;
et revertentur ad Dominum,
et placabitur eis, et sanabit eos.
23 On that day there shall be a highway from Egypt to Assyria; the Assyrians shall enter Egypt, and the Egyptians enter Assyria, and Egypt shall serve Assyria.23 In die illa erit via
de Ægypto in Assyrios ;
et intrabit Assyrius Ægyptum,
et Ægyptius in Assyrios,
et servient Ægyptii Assur.
24 On that day Israel shall be a third party with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the land,24 In die illa erit Israël tertius
Ægyptio et Assyrio ;
benedictio in medio terræ
25 when the LORD of hosts blesses it: "Blessed be my people Egypt, and the work of my hands Assyria, and my inheritance, Israel."25 cui benedixit Dominus exercituum, dicens :
Benedictus populus meus Ægypti,
et opus manuum mearum Assyrio ;
hæreditas autem mea Israël.
