1 The wicked man flees although no one pursues him; but the just man, like a lion, feels sure of himself.	1 L'empio fugge, anche se non c'è chi l'insegue; il giusto, come un giovane leone, sta tranquillo.
2 If a land is rebellious, its princes will be many; but with a prudent man it knows security.	2 Quando un paese è in subbuglio, molti sono i prìncipi, con un uomo intelligente e saggio, a lungo resta stabile.
3 A rich man who oppresses the poor is like a devastating rain that leaves no food.	3 Un uomo empio che opprime i poveri: acquazzone che devasta e fa mancare il pane.
4 Those who abandon the law praise the wicked man, but those who keep the law war against him.	4 Chi trasgredisce la legge esalta l'empio; chi osserva la legge è in lotta contro di lui.
5 Evil men understand nothing of justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all.	5 I malvagi non comprendono l'equità; chi cerca il Signore comprende tutto.
6 Better a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is crooked in his ways and rich.	6 Val più un povero che vive onestamente, che uno dalle vie tortuose, benché ricco.
7 He who keeps the law is a wise son, but the gluttons' companion disgraces his father.	7 Chi osserva la legge è un figlio intelligente; chi frequenta i libertini disonora il padre.
8 He who increases his wealth by interest and overcharge gathers it for him who is kind to the poor.	8 Chi aumenta la ricchezza con l'usura e l'interesse, l'ammassa per chi ha pietà dei poveri.
9 When one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.	9 Chi gira l'orecchio per non sentir la legge, anche la sua preghiera è ripudiata.
10 He who seduces the upright into an evil way will himself fall into his own pit. (And blameless men will gain prosperity.)	10 Chi svia i retti in una via malvagia cadrà nella sua fossa; i retti possederanno la felicità.
11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who is intelligent sees through him.	11 Si crede saggio uno perché è ricco, ma il povero che ha senno lo smaschera.
12 When the just are triumphant, there is great jubilation; but when the wicked gain preeminence, people hide.	12 Quando prevalgono i giusti c'è molta allegria; quando si levano gli empi ognuno si allontana.
13 He who conceals his sins prospers not, but he who confesses and forsakes them obtains mercy.	13 Chi nasconde le sue colpe non avrà successo; chi le confessa e fugge avrà misericordia.
14 Happy the man who is always on his guard; but he who hardens his heart will fall into evil.	14 Beato l'uomo che ha sempre timore; chi indurisce il cuore cade nella sventura.
15 Like a roaring lion or a ravenous bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.	15 Leone ruggente e orso affamato: l'empio che domina sopra la gente povera.
16 The less prudent the prince, the more his deeds oppress. He who hates ill-gotten gain prolongs his days.	16 Un principe privo d'intelligenza moltiplica i balzelli; ma chi odia il lucro prolunga la sua vita.
17 Though a man burdened with human blood were to flee to the grave, none should support him.	17 Un uomo che è inseguito per un omicidio, fuggirà fino alla tomba. Non lo trattenete!
18 He who walks uprightly is safe, but he whose ways are crooked falls into the pit.	18 Chi si comporta onestamente sarà salvo; chi vuole stare su due strade, in una inciamperà.
19 He who cultivates his land will have plenty of food, but from idle pursuits a man has his fill of poverty.	19 Chi lavora la sua terra si sazierà di pane; chi insegue chimere sarà sazio d'indigenza.
20 The trustworthy man will be richly blessed; he who is in haste to grow rich will not go unpunished.	20 L'uomo leale sarà ricco di benedizioni; chi ha fretta d'arricchirsi non resterà impunito.
21 To show partiality is never good: for even a morsel of bread a man may do wrong.	21 Aver riguardo alle persone non è bene; per un boccon di pane l'uomo può peccare.
22 The avaricious man is perturbed about his wealth, and he knows not when want will come upon him.	22 Corre dietro alla ricchezza l'uomo avaro e non sa che lo insegue l'indigenza.
23 He who rebukes a man gets more thanks in the end than one with a flattering tongue.	23 Chi rimprovera, troverà poi maggior favore di chi adula con la lingua.
24 He who defrauds father or mother and calls it no sin, is a partner of the brigand.	24 Chi spoglia suo padre e sua madre e dice: "Non è colpa!", è compagno di un brigante.
25 The greedy man stirs up disputes, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.	25 Chi è invidioso suscita le risse; chi ha fiducia nel Signore avrà successo.
26 He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is safe.	26 Chi confida nel suo cuore è uno stolto; chi cammina nella sapienza sarà salvo.
27 He who gives to the poor suffers no want, but he who ignores them gets many a curse.	27 Chi dà al povero non avrà mai bisogno; chi chiude gli occhi ha molte maledizioni.
28 When the wicked gain pre-eminence, other men hide; but at their fall the just flourish.	28 Quando gli empi s'innalzano, ognuno si nasconde; quando son distrutti, i giusti si moltiplicano.
