1 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.	1 Ioas aveva sette anni quando divenne re e regnò quarant'anni in Gerusalemme. Il nome di sua madre era Sibia, di Bersabea.
2 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as Jehoiada the priest lived.	2 Ioas fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore, finché visse il sacerdote Ioiadà.
3 Jehoiada provided him with two wives, and he became the father of sons and daughters.	3 Ioiadà gli procurò due mogli ed egli generò figli e figlie.
4 After some time, Joash decided to restore the LORD'S temple.	4 In seguito Ioas ebbe in animo di restaurare il tempio del Signore.
5 He called together the priests and Levites and said to them: "Go out to all the cities of Judah and collect money from all Israel that you may repair the house of your God over the years. You must hasten this affair." But the Levites did not hasten.	5 Radunò i sacerdoti e i leviti e disse loro: "Andate nelle città di Giuda e raccogliete anno per anno da tutti gli Israeliti del denaro per riparare il tempio del vostro Dio. Cercate di affrettarvi in quest'opera". Ma i leviti non si diedero premura di ciò.
6 Then the king summoned Jehoiada, who was in charge, and said to him: "Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax levied by Moses, the servant of the LORD, and by the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?"	6 Allora il re convocò Ioiadà, loro capo, e gli disse: "Perché non hai richiesto dai leviti che portassero da Giuda e da Gerusalemme la tassa imposta da Mosè, servo del Signore, e fissata dall'assemblea d'Israele per la tenda della testimonianza?
7 For the wicked Athaliah and her sons had damaged the house of God and had even turned over to the Baals the dedicated resources of the LORD'S temple.	7 Infatti l'empia Atalia e i suoi figli hanno dilapidato il tempio di Dio e persino tutte le cose sante del tempio del Signore le hanno usate per i Baal".
8 At the king's command, therefore, they made a chest, which they put outside the gate of the LORD'S temple.	8 Per ordine del re si fece una cassa, che fu posta fuori della porta del tempio del Signore.
9 They had it proclaimed throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax which Moses, the servant of God, had imposed on Israel in the desert should be brought to the LORD.	9 Indi fu emesso un bando in Giuda e in Gerusalemme, perché si portasse al Signore la tassa imposta da Mosè, servo di Dio, su Israele nel deserto.
10 All the princes and the people rejoiced; they brought what was asked and cast it into the chest until it was filled.	10 Tutti i capi e tutto il popolo se ne rallegrarono e portarono il denaro gettandolo nella cassa fino a riempirla.
11 Whenever the chest was brought to the royal officials by the Levites and they saw that it contained much money, the royal scribe and an overseer for the high priest came, emptied the chest, then took it back and returned it to its place. This they did day after day until they had collected a large sum of money.	11 Quando la cassa veniva portata all'amministrazione reale affidata ai leviti, e ci si accorgeva che c'era molto denaro, lo scriba del re e l'ispettore del sommo sacerdote venivano a vuotare la cassa; poi la prendevano e la ricollocavano al suo posto. Facevano così tutti i giorni, raccogliendo denaro in abbondanza.
12 Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to the workmen in charge of the labor on the LORD'S temple, who hired masons and carpenters to restore the temple, and also iron-and bronze-smiths to repair it.	12 Il re e Ioiadà lo diedero ai dirigenti dei lavori del tempio del Signore. Essi pagavano gli scalpellini e i falegnami per restaurare il tempio del Signore, come anche i lavoratori del ferro e del bronzo per riparare il tempio del Signore.
13 The workmen labored, and the task of restoration progressed under their hands. They restored the house of God according to its original form, and reinforced it.	13 I dirigenti dei lavori si misero all'opera; per mezzo loro le riparazioni progredirono: il tempio di Dio fu riportato al suo stato normale e fu consolidato.
14 After they had finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and to Jehoiada, who had it made into utensils for the LORD'S temple, utensils for the service and the holocausts, and basins and other gold and silver utensils. They offered holocausts in the LORD'S temple continually throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada.	14 Compiuto il lavoro, portarono davanti al re e a Ioiadà il denaro rimasto; con esso fecero degli utensili per il tempio del Signore: vasi per il servizio e per gli olocausti, coppe ed altri oggetti d'oro e d'argento. Finché visse Ioiadà si offrirono continuamente olocausti nel tempio del Signore.
15 Jehoiada lived to a ripe old age; he was a hundred and thirty years old when he died.	15 Ioiadà, invecchiatosi, morì sazio di giorni. Aveva centotrent'anni quando morì.
16 He was buried in the City of David with the kings, because he had done good in Israel, in particular with respect to God and his temple.	16 Fu seppellito nella Città di Davide insieme ai re, perché aveva agito bene in Israele, riguardo a Dio e al suo tempio.
17 After the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and the king then listened to them.	17 Dopo la morte di Ioiadà i capi di Giuda andarono a riverire il re, che diede loro ascolto.
18 They forsook the temple of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and began to serve the sacred poles and the idols; and because of this crime of theirs, wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem.	18 Questi abbandonarono il tempio del Signore, Dio dei loro padri, per venerare i pali sacri e gl'idoli. A causa di questa loro colpa l'ira di Dio si riversò su Giuda e Gerusalemme.
19 Although prophets were sent to them to convert them to the LORD, the people would not listen to their warnings.	19 Il Signore inviò loro profeti per farli ritornare a lui. Questi testimoniavano contro di essi, ma non furono ascoltati.
20 Then the spirit of God possessed Zechariah, son of Jehoiada the priest. He took his stand above the people and said to them: "God says, 'Why are you transgressing the LORD'S commands, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have abandoned the LORD, he has abandoned you.'"	20 Allora lo spirito di Dio investì Zaccaria, figlio del sacerdote Ioiadà, che si presentò davanti al popolo e disse loro: "Dice Dio: Perché trasgredite i precetti del Signore e non avete successo? Poiché avete abbandonato il Signore, anch'egli vi abbandona".
21 But they conspired against him, and at the king's order they stoned him to death in the court of the LORD'S temple.	21 Ma quelli congiurarono contro di lui e lo lapidarono per ordine del re nell'atrio del tempio del Signore.
22 Thus King Joash was unmindful of the devotion shown him by Jehoiada, Zechariah's father, and slew his son. And as he was dying, he said, "May the LORD see and avenge."	22 Il re Ioas non si ricordò del favore che gli aveva fatto Ioiadà, padre di Zaccaria: ne uccise il figlio, che morendo disse: "Dio veda e ne chieda conto".
23 At the turn of the year a force of Arameans came up against Joash. They invaded Judah and Jerusalem, did away with all the princes of the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.	23 Or avvenne che all'inizio dell'anno seguente l'esercito degli Aramei marciò contro Ioas. Giunti in Giuda e Gerusalemme, sterminarono tra il popolo tutti i suoi capi e ne inviarono l'intero bottino al re di Damasco.
24 Though the Aramean force came with few men, the LORD surrendered a very large force into their power, because Judah had abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers. So punishment was meted out to Joash.	24 Sebbene l'esercito degli Aramei fosse venuto con pochi uomini, il Signore consegnò nelle loro mani un esercito molto numeroso, perché avevano abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei loro padri. Così essi fecero giustizia di Ioas.
25 After the Arameans had departed from him, leaving him in grievous suffering, his servants conspired against him because of the murder of the son of Jehoiada the priest. They killed him on his sickbed. He was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	25 Partitisi da lui lasciandolo gravemente ammalato, i suoi servi congiurarono contro di lui a causa dell'uccisione del figlio del sacerdote Ioiadà e lo uccisero sul suo letto. Morto, lo seppellirono nella Città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.
26 These conspired against him: Zabad, son of Shimeath from Ammon, and Jehozabad, son of Shimrith from Moab.	26 Questi sono i congiurati contro di lui: Zabàd, figlio di Simeat, ammonita, e Iozabàd, figlio di Simrit, moabita.
27 Of his sons, and the great tribute imposed on him, and of his rebuilding of the house of God, there is a written account in the midrash of the book of the kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him as king.	27 Quanto ai suoi figli, all'abbondanza dei tributi da lui raccolti e al restauro del tempio del Signore, ecco, ciò sta scritto nelle memorie del libro dei re. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Amazia.
