1 After David had taken counsel with his commanders of thousands and of hundreds, that is to say, with every one of his leaders,	1 David tenne consiglio coi tri­buni, coi centurioni e con tutti i principi,
2 he said to the whole assembly of Israel: "If it seems good to you, and is so decreed by the LORD our God, let us summon the rest of our brethren from all the districts of Israel, and also the priests and the Levites from their cities with pasture lands, that they may join us;	2 e disse a tutta radunanza d'Israele: « Se vi piace, e se quello che proporrò viene dal Signore Dio nostro, mandiamo a dire a tutti gli altri nostri fratelli, in tutte le regioni d'Israele, e ai sacerdoti e ai leviti che abitano nei sobborghi delle città, di radunarsi presso di noi,
3 and let us bring the ark of our God here among us, for in the days of Saul we did not visit it."	3 per ricondurre qui da noi l'arca del nostro Dio, della quale non ci siamo occupati ai tempi di Saul ».
4 And the whole assembly agreed to do this, for the idea was pleasing to all the people.	4 Tutta la moltitudine rispose che si facesse così, perchè la cosa piaceva a tutto il popolo.
5 Then David assembled all Israel, from Shihor of Egypt to Labo of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.	5 Allora David radunò tutto Israele, da Sihor d'Egitto fino all'entrata di Emat, per ricondurre l'arca, di Dio da Cariatiarim.
6 David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, of Judah, to bring back the ark of God, which was known by the name "LORD enthroned upon the cherubim."	6 Poi David salì con tutti gli uomini d'Israele verso il colle di Cariatiarim, che è nella tribù di Giuda, per trasferire di là l'arca del Signore Dio che siede sopra i cherubini, dov'è invocato il suo nome.
7 They transported the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab; Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart,	7 Posta l'arca di Dio sopra un carro nuovo, la tolsero dalla casa di Abinadab, e Oza e suo fratello guidavano il carro.
8 while David and all Israel danced before God with great enthusiasm, amid songs and music on lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.	8 David e tutto Israele con tutte le loro forze danzavan dinanzi al Signore con canti, cetre, salteri, tamburi, cembali e trombe.
9 As they reached the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah stretched out his hand to steady the ark, for the oxen were upsetting it.	9 Or quando furon giunti all'aia di Chidon, Oza stese la mano per sostenere l'arca; perchè un bue, ricalcitrando, l'aveva fatta piegare un poco.
10 Then the LORD became angry with Uzzah and struck him; he died there in God's presence, because he had laid his hand on the ark.	10 Ma il Si­gnore, adiratosi contro Oza, lo percosse per aver toccata l'arca, ed egli morì dinanzi al Signore.
11 David was disturbed because the LORD'S anger had broken out against Uzzah. Therefore that place has been called Perez-uzza even to this day.	11 David si afflisse, perchè il Si­gnore aveva separato Oza, e chiamò quel luogo separazione d'Oza. Tal nome dura fino al presente.
12 David was now afraid of God, and he said, "How can I bring the ark of God with me?"	12 David in quel giorno ebbe paura di Dio e disse: « Come potrò portare a casa mial'Arca di Dio?»
13 Therefore he did not take the ark back with him to the City of David, but he took it instead to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.	13 Per questo motivo non la fece portare presso di sè, cioè nella città di David, ma la fece condurre nella casa di Obededom di Get.
14 The ark of God remained in the house of Obed-edom with his family for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom's household and all that he possessed.	14 Così l'arca di Dio dimorò per tre mesi in casa di Obededom, e il Signore benedisse la casa di lui e tutto ciò che possedeva.
