1 In the second year of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, began to reign.	1 Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, commença à régner la deuxième année de Joas fils de Yoacaz, roi d’Israël.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, whose name was Jehoaddin, was from Jerusalem.	2 Il avait 25 ans lorsqu’il monta sur le trône et il régna 29 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s’appelait Yohaddan, elle était de Jérusalem.
3 He pleased the LORD, yet not like his forefather David, since he did just as his father Joash had done.	3 Il fit ce qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé, mais cependant pas comme son père David. En toute chose il se comporta comme son père Joas.
4 Thus the high places did not disappear, but the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense on them.	4 Les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas, le peuple continua d’offrir des sacrifices et de faire fumer de l’encens sur les Hauts-Lieux.
5 When Amaziah had the kingdom firmly in hand, he slew the officials who had murdered the king, his father.	5 Dès qu’Amasias fut maître de la situation dans son royaume, il mit à mort ceux de ses serviteurs qui avaient tué le roi son père,
6 But the children of the murderers he did not put to death, obeying the LORD'S command written in the book of the law of Moses, "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; each one shall die for his own sin."	6 mais il ne mit pas à mort les fils des assassins, selon ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la Loi de Moïse. 7 Amaziah slew ten thousand Edomites in the Salt Valley, and took Sela in battle. He renamed it Joktheel, the name it has to this day.	7 C’est lui qui battit les Édomites dans la vallée du Sel et qui s’empara de la Roche au prix d’un dur combat; il lui donna le nom de Yoktéel, qu’elle porte jusqu’à ce jour.
8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, with this challenge, "Come, let us meet face to face."	8 Alors Amasias envoya des messagers à Joas fils de Yoacaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d’Israël: “Viens te mesurer avec moi”, lui dit-il.
9 King Jehoash of Israel sent this reply to the king of Judah: "The thistle of Lebanon sent word to the cedar of Lebanon, 'Give your daughter to my son in marriage,' but an animal of Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle underfoot.	9 Joas roi d’Israël fit répondre à Amasias roi de Juda: “L’épine du Liban envoya dire au cèdre du Liban: ‘Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils.’ Mais la bête sauvage du Liban passa et écrasa l’épine.
10 You have indeed conquered Edom, and you have become ambitious. Enjoy your glory, but stay at home! Why involve yourself and Judah with you in misfortune and failure?"	10 Tu as bien battu Édom et tu en es tout fier. Eh bien, glorifie-toi et reste chez toi. Pourquoi attirer le malheur et la mort sur toi et sur Juda avec toi?”
11 But Amaziah would not listen. King Jehoash of Israel then advanced, and he and King Amaziah of Judah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.	11 Mais Amasias n’écouta pas. Alors Joas, roi d’Israël, s’avança et ils s’affrontèrent à Beth-Chémech, qui est en Juda.
12 Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiery fled homeward.	12 Juda fut battu par Israël et tous s’enfuirent à leurs tentes.
13 King Jehoash of Israel captured Amaziah, son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh. He went on to Jerusalem where he tore down four hundred cubits of the city wall, from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate.	13 Joas roi d’Israël fit prisonnier Amasias, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils d’Okozias, à Beth-Chémech et le ramena à Jérusalem. Il abattit le rempart de Jérusalem sur plus de 100 mètres, depuis la porte d’Éphraïm jusqu’à la porte de l’Angle;
14 He took all the gold and silver and all the utensils there were in the temple of the LORD and the treasuries of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.	14 il prit tout l’or et l’argent, tous les objets qui se trouvaient dans la Maison de Yahvé et dans le trésor du palais royal, ainsi que des otages; puis il retourna à Samarie.

16 Jehoash rested with his ancestors; he was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. His son Jeroboam succeeded him as king.	16 Joas se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël; Jéroboam, son fils, régna à sa place.
17 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.	17 Après la mort de Joas fils de Yoacaz, roi d’Israël, Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut encore 15 ans.

19 When a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish. But he was pursued to Lachish and killed there.	19 On complota contre lui à Jérusalem et il s’enfuit à Lakish, mais on le poursuivit jusqu’à Lakish, et là il fut mis à mort.
20 He was brought back on horses and buried with his ancestors in the City of David in Jerusalem.	20 On le ramena avec des chevaux et on l’enterra à Jérusalem avec ses pères, dans la Cité de David.
21 Thereupon all the people of Judah took the sixteen-year-old Azariah and proclaimed him king to succeed his father Amaziah.	21 Tout le peuple de Juda prit Azarias - il n’avait alors que 16 ans - et on le fit roi à la place de son père Amasias.

23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel, began his forty-one-year reign in Samaria.	23 En la quinzième année d’Amasias fils de Joas, roi de Juda, Jéroboam fils de Joas, roi d’Israël, devint roi à Samarie. Il régna 41 ans.
24 He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not desist from any of the sins which Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had caused Israel to commit.	24 Il fit ce qui est mal au regard de Yahvé, il ne se détourna pas de tous les péchés dans lesquels Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, avait entraîné Israël.
25 He restored the boundaries of Israel from Labo-of-Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had prophesied through his servant, the prophet Jonah, son of Amittai, from Gath-hepher.	25 Mais c’est lui qui rétablit les frontières d’Israël depuis l’Entrée-de-Hamat jusqu’à la mer de la Araba, comme Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, l’avait dit par la bouche de son serviteur, le prophète Jonas, fils d’Amittaï, qui était de Gat-Héfer.
26 For the LORD saw the very bitter affliction of Israel, where there was neither slave nor freeman, no one at all to help Israel.	26 En effet, Yahvé avait vu la très grande misère d’Israël: il n’y avait plus personne, ni esclave, ni homme libre, capable de secourir Israël.
27 Since the LORD had not determined to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, he saved them through Jeroboam, son of Joash.	27 Yahvé n’avait pas décidé d’effacer le nom d’Israël de dessous les cieux, et il le délivra par la main de Jéroboam, fils de Joas.
28 The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, his valor and all his accomplishments, how he fought with Damascus and turned back Hamath from Israel, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	28 Le reste des actes de Jéroboam, tout ce qu’il a fait et sa bravoure, comment il combattit et redonna Damas et Hamat à Israël, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le Livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
29 Jeroboam rested with his ancestors, the kings of Israel, and his son Zechariah succeeded him as king.	29 Jéroboam se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël; Zacharie, son fils, régna à sa place.
