1 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.	1 In quello tempo non era re in Israel, e la schiatta di Dan sì andava cercando una possessione per abitarvi dentro; imperciò insino a quello dì, tra l'altre schiatte, non avea preso la sorte sua.
2 And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.	2 E mandarono i figliuoli di Dan cinque uomini fortissimi della schiatta della loro famiglia di Saraa ed Estaol, acciò che ispiassono la terra diligentemente e le ponesson mente, e dissono loro: andate e considerate la terra. I quali andando, ed essendo venuti nel monte di Efraim, ed entrassono nella casa di Mica, e si riposassono quivi;
3 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?	3 e conoscendo la voce di quello giovane (prete) della schiatta di Levi, e usando nel luogo dove abitavano, sì gli dissono: chi ti menò qua? e che fai tu qui? per quale cagione se' venuto qua?
4 And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.	4 Il quale rispuose loro: queste cose m' ha prestate e date Mica; e sì mi recò a casa per prezzo, acciò che gli sia suo prete.
5 And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.	5 E pregaronlo costoro, che domandasse consiglio da Dio, per ciò che potessono sapere, se loro andavano sicuramente nel loro viaggio, e se il fatto loro venisse in effetto.
6 And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the LORD is your way wherein ye go.	6 Il quale sì rispuose loro: andate in pace, Iddio ragguarda la via vostra, e sì è con esso voi per la via che fate.
7 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.	7 E andando questi cinque uomini, sì vennero in Lais, e videno il popolo che abitava senza paura alcuna, secondo l' usanza di quelli di Sidonia, sicuro e quieto, al quale nullo popolo contrastava per alcuno modo, e di grande ricchezza, e di lungi da Sidone, e ancora da tutti quanti gli uomini spartito.
8 And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?	8 E ritornati a' fratelli loro in Saraa ed Estaol, e ciò che avessono fatto ispiando, sì rispuoseno:
9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.	9 Levatevi (suso), e andiamo suso a loro; imperciò che noi abbiamo veduto la terra molto grassa (e ricca) e abbondevole; non siate negligenti, nè non vogliate cessare; andiamo, e sì la possediamo, e non sarà fatica alcuna.
10 When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.	10 Noi entreremo a coloro, che si stanno sicuramente, in contrada larghissima; e daracci Iddio luogo, nel quale di niuna cosa è penuria (e carestia) di quelle (cose) che nascono nella terra.
11 And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.	11 E partìronsi (della schiatta e) del parentado di Dan, cioè di Saraa ed Estaol, uomini secento, tutti armati con arme da offendere.
12 And they went up, and pitched in Kirjath-jearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahaneh-dan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjath-jearim.	12 Salendo suso, istettero in Cariatiarim di Giuda; il quale luogo, da quello tempo, sì si chiamò IL CAMPO DI DAN, ed è di dietro a Cariatiarim.
13 And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.	13 E quindi sì passarono nel monte di Efraim. Ed essendo venuti alla casa di Mica,
14 Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.	14 disseno quelli cinque uomini, li quali erano istati mandati in prima a considerare la terra di Lais, a (tutti) gli altri loro fratelli: sapete voi (o avete udito), che in questa casa sia la pianeta e il camiscio (e tutte le cose da prete) e un' imagine rilevata e vota dentro (per idolo); ponete mente quello che vi piace di fare.
15 And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.	15 E partìrsi uno poco quelli cinque ch' erano in casa di Mica, ed entrarono nella casa di quello prete giovane; e sì lo salutarono con parole pacifiche.
16 And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.	16 Ma quelli seicento uomini, così come erano armati, istavano dinanzi l'uscio.
17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.	17 E coloro, i quali erano entrati nella casa di questo giovane, si sforzavano di torre (questo idolo) il camiscio e la pianeta e tutto l'altro fornimento da prete. E il prete si stava dinanzi all'uscio, e quelli seicento uomini armati aspettavano uno poco da lungi.
18 And these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?	18 E tolsono questi uomini, che erano entrati, la imagine dell' idolo e il camiscio e paramento del prete. Ai quali sì disse il prete: che facete voi?
19 And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?	19 Al quale respuosono costoro: taci, e poni lo dito sopra la bocca tua, e vièntene con esso noi, acciò che t'abbiamo per padre e per prete. Quale cosa ti mette meglio, o che tu sii prete d'uno uomo, o d'una schiatta e d'una famiglia in Israel?
20 And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.	20 La qual cosa udendo questo prete, consentì alle parole loro, e tolse il paramento da prete e la imagine rilevata e gl' idoli, e andossene con loro.
21 So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.	21 I quali, andando, feceno andare dinanzi da loro i fanciulli e (le cavalle le quali portavano queste cose e ancora) il bestiame e ancora ogni cosa preziosa (la quale era in casa di Mica).
22 And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.	22 Essendo costoro dalla lunga della casa di Mica, gli uomini i quali abitavano nella casa di Mica (dove istava il bestiame), tutti gridarono insieme, e sì gli seguitarono,
23 And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?	23 e cominciarono a gridare loro dietro. I quali avendo posto insememente dietro, dissero a Mica: che vuogli tu? perchè gridi?
24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?	24 Il quale rispuose loro: gli dii miei, li quali io mi feci, avete tolti, e il prete, e ciò ch' io avea; e dite che hai tu?
25 And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.	25 E dissergli i figliuoli di Dan: guarda che non gridi nè favelli più, acciò che [non] vengano a te questi uomini (turbati) con l' animo concitato, [e non] perischi insieme con tutta la casa [tua].
26 And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.	26 E (dette queste parole,) preso il cammino, sì se n'andarono. E veggendo Mica, ch' erano più forti di lui, si tornò a casa sua.
27 And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.	27 E questi secento uomini sì tolsono il prete, e tutte l'altre cose [dette] di sopra; e vennero in Lais a quello popolo che si stava e non si guardava, ed entrarono dentro (cui tutti gli percossono, e uccisono), e miseno alle punta delle coltella; e miseno al fuoco la cittade,
28 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Beth-rehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.	28 non essendo persona niuna la quale desse loro aiuto, perchè abitavano molto da lungi da loro quelli di Sidonia, e perchè non aveano ancora con uomo alcuno a fare nulla in compagnia alcuna. Ed era la cittade edificata nella contrada di Roob; la qual cittade riedificando da capo, sì abitarono dentro,
29 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.	29 appellando il nome della cittade DAN, secondo il nome del suo padre, il quale avea generato (e avuto) Israel; la quale prima si chiamava LAIS.
30 And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.	30 E puosonsi quella imagine rilevata (per loro iddio); e Ionatan, figliuolo di Gersam figliuolo di Moisè, e i suoi figliuoli feceno preti nella ischiatta di Dan, insino al dì che furono pregioni.
31 And they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.	31 E istette appo loro l'idolo di Mica ogni tempo che fue la casa di Dio in Silo. In quelli di non era re in Israel.
