KING JAMES BIBLENOVA VULGATA
And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.1 Et iterum coepit docere ad ma re. Et congregatur ad eum tur ba plurima,ita ut in navem ascendens sederet in mari, et omnis turba circa mare superterram erant.
And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,2 Et docebat eos in parabolis multa et dicebat illis in doctrinasua:
Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:3 “ Audite. Ecce exiit seminans ad seminandum.
And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.4 Et factum est, dumseminat, aliud cecidit circa viam, et venerunt volucres et comederunt illud.
And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:5 Aliud cecidit super petrosa, ubi non habebat terram multam, et statim exortumest, quoniam non habebat altitudinem terrae;
But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.6 et quando exortus est sol,exaestuavit et, eo quod non haberet radicem, exaruit.
And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.7 Et aliud cecidit inspinas, et ascenderunt spinae et suffocaverunt illud, et fructum non dedit.
And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.8 Etalia ceciderunt in terram bonam et dabant fructum: ascendebant et crescebant etafferebant unum triginta et unum sexaginta et unum centum ”.
And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.9 Et dicebat: “Qui habet aures audiendi, audiat ”.
And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.10 Et cum esset singularis, interrogaverunt eum hi, qui circa eum erant cumDuodecim, parabolas.
And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:11 Et dicebat eis: “ Vobis datum est mysterium regni Dei;illis autem, qui foris sunt, in parabolis omnia fiunt,
That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.12 ut videntes videant et non videant,
et audientes audiant et non intellegant,
ne quando convertantur,
et dimittatur eis ”.
And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?13 Et ait illis: “ Nescitis parabolam hanc, et quomodo omnes parabolascognoscetis?
The sower soweth the word.14 Qui seminat, verbum seminat.
And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.15 Hi autem sunt, qui circa viam,ubi seminatur verbum: et cum audierint, confestim venit Satanas et aufertverbum, quod seminatum est in eos.
And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;16 Et hi sunt, qui super petrosa seminantur:qui cum audierint verbum, statim cum gaudio accipiunt illud
And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.17 et non habentradicem in se, sed temporales sunt; deinde orta tribulatione vel persecutionepropter verbum, confestim scandalizantur.
And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,18 Et alii sunt, qui in spinisseminantur: hi sunt, qui verbum audierunt,
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.19 et aerumnae saeculi et deceptiodivitiarum et circa reliqua concupiscentiae introeuntes suffocant verbum, etsine fructu efficitur.
And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.20 Et hi sunt, qui super terram bonam seminati sunt: quiaudiunt verbum et suscipiunt et fructificant unum triginta et unum sexaginta etunum centum ”.
And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?21 Et dicebat illis: “ Numquid venit lucerna, ut sub modio ponatur aut sublecto? Nonne ut super candelabrum ponatur?
For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.22 Non enim est aliquid absconditum,nisi ut manifestetur, nec factum est occultum, nisi ut in palam veniat.
If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.23 Siquis habet aures audiendi, audiat ”.
And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.24 Et dicebat illis: “ Videte quid audiatis. In qua mensura mensi fueritis,remetietur vobis et adicietur vobis.
For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.25 Qui enim habet, dabitur illi; et, quinon habet, etiam quod habet, auferetur ab illo ”.
And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;26 Et dicebat: “ Sic est regnum Dei, quemadmodum si homo iaciat sementem interram
And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.27 et dormiat et exsurgat nocte ac die, et semen germinet et increscat,dum nescit ille.
For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.28 Ultro terra fructificat primum herbam, deinde spicam, deindeplenum frumentum in spica.
But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.29 Et cum se produxerit fructus, statim mittitfalcem, quoniam adest messis ”.
And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?30 Et dicebat: “ Quomodo assimilabimus regnum Dei aut in qua parabola ponemusillud?
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:31 Sicut granum sinapis, quod cum seminatum fuerit in terra, minus estomnibus seminibus, quae sunt in terra;
But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.32 et cum seminatum fuerit, ascendit etfit maius omnibus holeribus et facit ramos magnos, ita ut possint sub umbra eiusaves caeli habitare ”.
And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.33 Et talibus multis parabolis loquebatur eis verbum, prout poterant audire;
But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.34 sine parabola autem non loquebatur eis. Seorsum autem discipulis suis disserebatomnia.
And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.35 Et ait illis illa die, cum sero esset factum: “ Transeamus contra ”.
And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.36 Et dimittentes turbam, assumunt eum, ut erat in navi; et aliae naves erant cumillo.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.37 Et exoritur procella magna venti, et fluctus se mittebant in navem, itaut iam impleretur navis.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?38 Et erat ipse in puppi supra cervical dormiens; etexcitant eum et dicunt ei: “ Magister, non ad te pertinet quia perimus? ”.
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.39 Et exsurgens comminatus est vento et dixit mari: “ Tace, obmutesce! ”. Etcessavit ventus, et facta est tranquillitas magna.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?40 Et ait illis: “ Quidtimidi estis? Necdum habetis fidem? ”.
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?41 Et timuerunt magno timore etdicebant ad alterutrum: “ Quis putas est iste, quia et ventus et mareoboediunt ei? ”.
