KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.1 When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.2 And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said, "Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean."
And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.3 He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I will do it. Be made clean." His leprosy was cleansed immediately.
And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them."
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him,
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.6 saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully."
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.7 He said to him, "I will come and cure him."
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.8 The centurion said in reply, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.9 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it."
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.
And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.11 I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven,
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.12 but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you." And at that very hour (his) servant was healed.
And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.14 Jesus entered the house of Peter, and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.15 He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him.
When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:16 When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick,
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.17 to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: "He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases."
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.18 When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side.
And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.19 A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.20 Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."
And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.21 Another of (his) disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father."
But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.22 But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."
And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.23 He got into a boat and his disciples followed him.
And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.24 Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep.
And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.25 They came and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.26 He said to them, "Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm.
But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!27 The men were amazed and said, "What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?"
And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.28 When he came to the other side, to the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him. They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?29 They cried out, "What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?"
And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.30 Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.
So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.31 The demons pleaded with him, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine."
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.32 And he said to them, "Go then!" They came out and entered the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned.
And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.33 The swineherds ran away, and when they came to the town they reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs.
And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.34 Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.
