Isaiah 41

1 Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.	1 Îles, taisez-vous, écoutez-moi, tous les peuples, venez, approchez-vous! Et puis vous viendrez prendre la parole, car nous avons à plaider ensemble.
2 Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow.	2 Qui a fait venir de l’orient, celui qui a rendez-vous avec la victoire? Qui lui soumet les nations et les rois? Son épée les réduit en poussière son arc, en paille qu’emporte le vent.
3 He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.	3 Il les poursuit sans risques sur des chemins qu’il ne fait qu’effleurer.
4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.	4 Qui a fait cela, qui en est l’auteur? Moi qui, depuis l’origine, fais monter les générations. Moi, Yahvé, je suis le premier, et je serai encore avec les derniers.
5 The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.	5 Les îles l’ont vu et elles se sont effrayées, les extrémités de la terre en ont tremblé.
6 They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.	6 (Chacun aide son compagnon et lui dit: “Courage!”
7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.	7 L’artisan encourage l’orfèvre, celui qui finit au marteau encourage celui qui tape sur l’enclume. Il dit de la soudure: “Elle est bonne”, et il la renforce avec des clous pour que rien ne bouge.)
8 But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.	8 Mais toi, Israël, mon serviteur, Jacob que j’ai choisi, race d’Abraham mon ami,
9 Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.	9 je t’ai saisi aux extrémités de la terre. Je t’ai appelé d’une région lointaine et je t’ai dit: “Tu es mon serviteur que j’ai choisi avant tout autre.”
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.	10 Ne crains rien car je suis avec toi, n’aie pas peur car je suis ton Dieu. Je t’ai donné la force, et puis je t’ai aidé, et je t’ai soutenu de ma main victorieuse.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.	11 Ceux qui crient après toi s’en iront déçus, confus; tes adversaires seront réduits à rien et périront.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.	12 Tu chercheras les opposants et tu ne les trouveras plus, ceux qui te font la guerre seront réduits à rien, anéantis.
13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.	13 Car moi, Yahvé, je suis ton Dieu. Je t’ai saisi par la main droite et je te dis: “Ne crains pas, je suis ton secours.”
14 Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.	14 Ne crains pas, pauvre Jacob, toi Israël, si fragile! C’est moi ton secours - parole de Yahvé. Le Saint d’Israël s’est fait ton rédempteur.
15 Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.	15 Je veux faire de toi une herse, un traîneau tout neuf à doubles dents. Tu écraseras les montagnes, tu les mettras en pièces et tu rendras les collines semblables à la paille.
16 Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.	16 Tu les vanneras et le vent les emportera, l’ouragan les dispersera, et toi, tu seras tout fier de Yahvé; le Saint d’Israël sera ta gloire.
17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.	17 Les pauvres cherchent de l’eau, et rien; leur langue est desséchée par la soif. Mais moi, Yahvé, je réponds à leur appel; moi, le Dieu d’Israël, je ne les abandonnerai pas.
18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.	18 Je ferai jaillir des torrents sur les montagnes déboisées, des sources au milieu des vallées. Je ferai du désert un étang, et sur la terre aride couleront des fontaines.
19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together:	19 Dans le désert je planterai le cèdre, l’acacia, le chêne et l’olivier; dans la steppe je mettrai côte à côte le cyprès, le platane et le buis.
20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.	20 Alors on verra et on saura, on réfléchira et comprendra tout à la fois, que c’est la main de Yahvé qui a fait ces choses, c’est le Saint d’Israël qui les a créées.
21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.	21 Venez défendre votre cause, dit Yahvé, donnez vos arguments, dit le roi de Jacob.
22 Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.	22 Qu’ils s’approchent, et qu’ils nous parlent des événements à venir. Vos prédictions passées, quelles étaient-elles? Nous y ferons très attention pour en connaître la suite. Ou bien parlez-nous des événements à venir,
23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.	23 annoncez-nous ce qui doit arriver, et nous saurons que vous êtes des dieux. Au moins faites quelque chose, bien ou mal, nous le verrons et nous vous craindrons.
24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.	24 Mais non, vous n’êtes rien, et vos œuvres sont moins que rien: comment peut-on vous choisir?
25 I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.	25 (Dieu dit:) Du nord je l’ai appelé, et il est venu, depuis l’orient il a été appelé par son nom. Il piétine les gouverneurs comme de la boue, comme le potier quand il prépare son argile.
26 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.	26 Mais qui l’avait annoncé depuis le début, pour que nous le sachions? Il fallait le dire à l’avance, et nous pourrions dire: C’est exact! Mais nul ne l’a annoncé, nul ne l’a fait savoir; personne n’a entendu vos paroles.
27 The first shall say to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings.	27 Moi le premier j’ai dit à Sion: Les voilà! j’ai dit à Jérusalem: Je t’envoie de bonnes nouvelles!
28 For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counseller, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.	28 J’ai regardé: il n’y avait personne chez eux pour donner un avis, pas un que je puisse interroger pour avoir une réponse.
29 Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.	29 Tous ensemble ne sont rien, leurs œuvres, moins que rien, et leurs statues, du vent et du vide.
