Proverbs 9

1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:	1 La Sagesse a bâti sa maison, elle en a dressé les sept colonnes.
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.	2 Elle a abattu ses bêtes et mélangé ses vins, elle avait déjà dressé sa table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,	3 Elle a fait lancer un appel, par ses servantes, depuis les hauteurs de la cité haute:
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,	4 “Faites un tour par ici, vous qui ne savez pas!” À ceux qui ne pensent à rien, elle dit:
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.	5 “Venez, mangez mon pain, et buvez du vin que j’ai préparé!
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.	6 Laissez là votre folie et vous vivrez, marchez sur les chemins de la vérité!”
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.	7 Qui reprend un moqueur s’attire des insultes; qui réprimande un méchant risque d’être humilié.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.	8 Ne reprends pas le moqueur, tu t’en ferais un ennemi; reprends le sage, et il t’aimera.
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.	9 Donne au sage, et il deviendra plus sage; instruis un homme droit, et il en saura davantage.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.	10 La crainte de Yahvé est le commencement de la sagesse; la véritable intelligence, c’est de connaître Celui qui est Saint.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.	11 C’est alors que tu vivras des jours nombreux, tu multiplieras les années de ta vie.
12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.	12 Si tu es sage, la sagesse travaillera pour toi; si tu es moqueur, toi seul en paieras les conséquences.
13 A foolish woman is clamourous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.	13 Dame Folie est agitée, sotte et ignorante.
14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,	14 Elle s’est assise à la porte de sa maison, sur un siège, au sommet de la ville.
15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:	15 De là elle interpelle les passants qui vont leur chemin:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,	16 “Faites un tour par ici, vous qui ne savez pas!” Elle dit à ceux qui ne pensent à rien:
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.	17 “Les eaux dérobées sont plus douces, le pain qu’on mange en cachette est bien plus savoureux!”
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.	18 Mais l’auditeur ne sait pas que les morts rôdent alentour, ceux qu’elle invite descendent aux enfers.
