Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the desert of Idumea.
He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.2 O God, my God: to you, I keep vigil until first light. For you, my soul has thirsted, to you my body, in so many ways.
How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.3 By a deserted land, both inaccessible and waterless, so I have appeared in the sanctuary before you, in order to behold your virtue and your glory.
They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.4 For your mercy is better than life itself. It is you my lips will praise.
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.5 So will I bless you in my life, and I will lift up my hands in your name.
He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.6 Let my soul be filled, as if with marrow and fatness; and my mouth will give praise with exultant lips.
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.7 When I have remembered you on my bed in the morning, I will meditate on you.
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.8 For you have been my helper. And I will exult under the cover of your wings.
Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.9 My soul has clung close to you. Your right hand has supported me.
Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.10 Truly, these ones have sought my soul in vain. They will enter into the lower parts of the earth.
God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.11 They will be delivered into the hand of the sword. They will be the portions of foxes.
Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.12 Truly, the king will rejoice in God: all those who swear by him will be praised, because the mouth of those who speak iniquity has been blocked.
