Première épître de Pierre 4

JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Le Christ ayant donc souffert dans la chair, vous aussi armez-vous de cette même pensée, à savoir:celui qui a souffert dans la chair a rompu avec le péché,	1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 pour passer le temps qui reste à vivre dans la chair, non plus selon les passions humaines, maisselon le vouloir divin.	2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 Il suffit bien en effet d'avoir accompli dans le passé la volonté des païens, en se prêtant auxdébauches, aux passions, aux saouleries, orgies, beuveries, au culte illicite des idoles.	3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4 A ce sujet, ils jugent étrange que vous ne couriez pas avec eux vers ce torrent de perdition, et ils serépandent en outrages.	4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5 Ils en rendront compte à celui qui est prêt à juger vivants et morts.	5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6 C'est pour cela, en effet, que même aux morts a été annoncée la Bonne Nouvelle, afin que, jugésselon les hommes dans la chair, ils vivent selon Dieu dans l'esprit.	6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7 La fin de toutes choses est proche. Soyez donc sages et sobres en vue de la prière.	7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
8 Avant tout, conservez entre vous une grande charité, car la charité couvre une multitude de péchés.	8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9 Pratiquez l'hospitalité les uns envers les autres, sans murmurer.	9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10 Chacun selon la grâce reçue, mettez-vous au service les uns des autres, comme de bons intendantsd'une multiple grâce de Dieu.	10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 Si quelqu'un parle, que ce soit comme les paroles de Dieu; si quelqu'un assure le service, que cesoit comme par un mandat reçu de Dieu, afin qu'en tout Dieu soit glorifié par Jésus Christ, à qui sont la gloire etla puissance pour les siècles des siècles. Amen.	11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Très chers, ne jugez pas étrange l'incendie qui sévit au milieu de vous pour vous éprouver, commes'il vous survenait quelque chose d'étrange.	12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 Mais, dans la mesure où vous participez aux souffrances du Christ, réjouissez-vous, afin que, lorsde la révélation de sa gloire, vous soyez aussi dans la joie et l'allégresse.	13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 Heureux, si vous êtes outragés pour le nom du Christ, car l'Esprit de gloire, l'Esprit de Dieu reposesur vous.	14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15 Que nul de vous n'ait à souffrir comme meurtrier, ou voleur, ou malfaiteur, ou comme délateur,	15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
16 mais si c'est comme chrétien, qu'il n'ait pas honte, qu'il glorifie Dieu de porter ce nom.	16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 Car le moment est venu de commencer le jugement par la maison de Dieu. Or s'il débute par nous,quelle sera la fin de ceux qui refusent de croire à la Bonne Nouvelle de Dieu?	17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 Si le juste est à peine sauvé, l'impie, le pécheur, où se montrera-t-il?	18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 Ainsi, que ceux qui souffrent selon le vouloir divin remettent leurs âmes au Créateur fidèle, enfaisant le bien.	19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
