Première épître aux Corinthiens 11

1 Montrez-vous mes imitateurs, comme je le suis moi-même du Christ.	1 Be imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.
2 Je vous félicite de ce qu'en toutes choses vous vous souvenez de moi et gardez les traditionscomme je vous les ai transmises.	2 Now I praise you, brothers, because you are mindful of me in everything, in such a way as to hold to my precepts as I have handed them down to you.
3 Je veux cependant que vous le sachiez: le chef de tout homme, c'est le Christ; le chef de lafemme, c'est l'homme; et le chef du Christ, c'est Dieu.	3 So I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ. But the head of woman is man. Yet truly, the head of Christ is God.
4 Tout homme qui prie ou prophétise le chef couvert fait affront à son chef.	4 Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered disgraces his head.
5 Toute femme qui prie ou prophétise le chef découvert fait affront à son chef; c'estexactement comme si elle était tondue.	5 But every woman praying or prophesying with her head not covered disgraces her head. For it is the same as if her head were shaven.
6 Si donc une femme ne met pas de voile, alors, qu'elle se coupe les cheveux! Mais si c'est unehonte pour une femme d'avoir les cheveux coupés ou tondus, qu'elle mette un voile.	6 So if a woman is not veiled, let her hair be cut off. Truly then, if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off, or to have her head shaven, then she should cover her head.
7 L'homme, lui, ne doit pas se couvrir la tête, parce qu'il est l'image et le reflet de Dieu; quant àla femme, elle est le reflet de l'homme.	7 Certainly, a man ought not to cover his head, for he is the image and glory of God. But woman is the glory of man.
8 Ce n'est pas l'homme en effet qui a été tiré de la femme, mais la femme de l'homme;	8 For man is not of woman, but woman is of man.
9 et ce n'est pas l'homme, bien sûr, qui a été créé pour la femme, mais la femme pour l'homme.	9 And indeed, man was not created for woman, but woman was created for man.
10 Voilà pourquoi la femme doit avoir sur la tête un signe de sujétion, à cause des anges.	10 Therefore, a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the Angels.
11 Aussi bien, dans le Seigneur, ni la femme ne va sans l'homme, ni l'homme sans la femme;	11 Yet truly, man would not exist without woman, nor would woman exist without man, in the Lord.
12 car, de même que la femme a été tirée de l'homme, ainsi l'homme naît par la femme, et toutvient de Dieu.	12 For just as woman came into existence from man, so also does man exist through woman. But all things are from God.
13 Jugez-en par vous-mêmes. Est-il convenable que la femme prie Dieu la tête découverte?	13 Judge for yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God unveiled?
14 La nature elle-même ne vous enseigne-t-elle pas que c'est une honte pour l'homme de porterles cheveux longs,	14 Does not even nature herself teach you that, indeed, if a man grows his hair long, it is a disgrace for him?
15 tandis que c'est une gloire pour la femme de les porter ainsi? Car la chevelure lui a étédonnée en guise de voile.	15 Yet truly, if a woman grows her hair long, it is a glory for her, because her hair has been given to her as a covering.
16 Au reste, si quelqu'un se plaît à ergoter, tel n'est pas notre usage, ni celui des Eglises deDieu.	16 But if anyone has a mind to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor does the Church of God.
17 Et puisque j'en suis aux recommandations, je n'ai pas à vous louer de ce que vos réunionstournent non pas à votre bien, mais à votre détriment.	17 Now I caution you, without praising, about this: that you assemble together, and not for better, but for worse.
18 Car j'apprends tout d'abord que, lorsque vous vous réunissez en assemblée, il se produitparmi vous des divisions, et je le crois en partie.	18 First of all, indeed, I hear that when you assemble together in the church, there are schisms among you. And I believe this, in part.
19 Il faut bien qu'il y ait aussi des scissions parmi vous, pour permettre aux hommes éprouvésde se manifester parmi vous.	19 For there must also be heresies, so that those who have been tested may be made manifest among you.
20 Lors donc que vous vous réunissez en commun, ce n'est plus le Repas du Seigneur que vousprenez.	20 And so, when you assemble together as one, it is no longer in order to eat the Lord’s supper.
21 Dès qu'on est à table en effet, chacun prend d'abord son propre repas, et l'un a faim, tandisque l'autre est ivre.	21 For each one first takes his own supper to eat. And as a result, one person is hungry, while another is inebriated.
22 Vous n'avez donc pas de maisons pour manger et boire? Ou bien méprisez-vous l'Eglise deDieu, et voulez-vous faire honte à ceux qui n'ont rien? Que vous dire? Vous louer? Sur ce point, je ne vous louepas.	22 Do you not have houses, in which to eat and drink? Or do you have such contempt for the Church of God that you would confound those who do not have such contempt? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I am not praising you in this.
23 Pour moi, en effet, j'ai reçu du Seigneur ce qu'à mon tour je vous ai transmis: le SeigneurJésus, la nuit où il était livré, prit du pain	23 For I have received from the Lord what I have also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the same night that he was handed over, took bread,
24 et, après avoir rendu grâce, le rompit et dit: "Ceci est mon corps, qui est pour vous; faitesceci en mémoire de moi."	24 and giving thanks, he broke it, and said: “Take and eat. This is my body, which shall be given up for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
25 De même, après le repas, il prit la coupe, en disant: "Cette coupe est la nouvelle Alliance enmon sang; chaque fois que vous en boirez, faites-le en mémoire de moi."	25 Similarly also, the cup, after he had eaten supper, saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
26 Chaque fois en effet que vous mangez ce pain et que vous buvez cette coupe, vousannoncez la mort du Seigneur, jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne.	26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord, until he returns.
27 Ainsi donc, quiconque mange le pain ou boit la coupe du Seigneur indignement aura àrépondre du corps et du sang du Seigneur.	27 And so, whoever eats this bread, or drinks from the cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be liable of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 Que chacun donc s'éprouve soi-même, et qu'ainsi il mange de ce pain et boive de cettecoupe;	28 But let a man examine himself, and, in this way, let him eat from that bread, and drink from that cup.
29 car celui qui mange et boit, mange et boit sa propre condamnation, s'il ne discerne le Corps.	29 For whoever eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks a sentence against himself, not discerning it to be the body of the Lord.
30 Voilà pourquoi il y a parmi vous beaucoup de malades et d'infirmes, et que bon nombresont morts.	30 As a result, many are weak and sick among you, and many have fallen asleep.
31 Si nous nous examinions nous-mêmes, nous ne serions pas jugés.	31 But if we ourselves were discerning, then certainly we would not be judged.
32 Mais par ses jugements le Seigneur nous corrige, pour que nous ne soyons point condamnésavec le monde.	32 Yet when we are judged, we are being corrected by the Lord, so that we might not be condemned along with this world.
33 Ainsi donc, mes frères, quand vous vous réunissez pour le Repas, attendez-vous les uns lesautres.	33 And so, my brothers, when you assemble together to eat, be attentive to one another.
34 Si quelqu'un a faim, qu'il mange chez lui, afin de ne pas vous réunir pour votrecondamnation. Quant au reste, je le réglerai lors de ma venue.	34 If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you may not assemble together unto judgment. As for the rest, I will set it in order when I arrive.
