Épître aux Romains 14

JERUSALEM	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 A celui qui est faible dans la foi, soyez accueillants sans vouloir discuter des opinions.	1 But accept those who are weak in faith, without disputing about ideas.
2 Tel croit pouvoir manger de tout, tandis que le faible ne mange que des légumes:	2 For one person believes that he may eat all things, but if another is weak, let him eat plants.
3 que celui qui mange ne méprise pas l'abstinent et que l'abstinent ne juge pas celui qui mange;Dieu l'a bien accueilli.	3 He who eats should not despise him who does not eat. And he who does not eat should not judge him who eats. For God has accepted him.
4 Toi, qui es-tu pour juger un serviteur d'autrui? Qu'il reste debout ou qu'il tombe, cela ne concerneque son maître; d'ailleurs il restera debout, car le Seigneur a la force de le soutenir.	4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? He stands or falls by his own Lord. But he shall stand. For God is able to make him stand.
5 Celui-ci préfère un jour à un autre; celui-là les estime tous pareils: que chacun s'en tienne à sonjugement.	5 For one person discerns one age from the next. But another discerns unto every age. Let each one increase according to his own mind.
6 Celui qui tient compte des jours le fait pour le Seigneur; et celui qui mange le fait pour leSeigneur, puisqu'il rend grâce à Dieu. Et celui qui s'abstient le fait pour le Seigneur, et il rend grâce à Dieu.	6 He who understands the age, understands for the Lord. And he who eats, eats for the Lord; for he gives thanks to God. And he who does not eat, does not eat for the Lord, and he gives thanks to God.
7 En effet, nul d'entre nous ne vit pour soi-même, comme nul ne meurt pour soi-même;	7 For none of us lives for himself, and none of us dies for himself.
8 si nous vivons, nous vivons pour le Seigneur, et si nous mourons, nous mourons pour le Seigneur.Donc, dans la vie comme dans la mort, nous appartenons au Seigneur.	8 For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
9 Car le Christ est mort et revenu à la vie pour être le Seigneur des morts et des vivants.	9 For Christ died and rose again for this purpose: that he might be the ruler of both the dead and the living.
10 Mais toi, pourquoi juger ton frère? Et toi, pourquoi mépriser ton frère? Tous, en effet, nouscomparaîtrons au tribunal de Dieu,	10 So then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 car il est écrit: Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, tout genou devant moi fléchira, et toute langue rendragloire à Dieu.	11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bend to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
12 C'est donc que chacun de nous rendra compte à Dieu pour soi-même.	12 And so, each one of us shall offer an explanation of himself to God.
13 Finissons-en donc avec ces jugements les uns sur les autres: jugez plutôt qu'il ne faut rien mettredevant votre frère qui le fasse buter ou tomber. --	13 Therefore, we should no longer judge one another. Instead, judge this to a greater extent: that you should not place an obstacle before your brother, nor lead him astray.
14 Je le sais, j'en suis certain dans le Seigneur Jésus, rien n'est impur en soi, mais seulement pourcelui qui estime un aliment impur; en ce cas il l'est pour lui. --	14 I know, with confidence in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in and of itself. But to him who considers anything to be unclean, it is unclean to him.
15 En effet, si pour un aliment ton frère est contristé, tu ne te conduis plus selon la charité. Ne vapas avec ton aliment faire périr celui-là pour qui le Christ est mort!	15 For if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are not now walking according to love. Do not allow your food to destroy him for whom Christ died.
16 N'exposez donc pas votre privilège à l'outrage.	16 Therefore, what is good for us should not be a cause of blasphemy.
17 Car le règne de Dieu n'est pas affaire de nourriture ou de boisson, il est justice, paix et joie dansl'Esprit Saint.	17 For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but rather justice and peace and joy, in the Holy Spirit.
18 Celui en effet qui sert le Christ de la sorte est agréable à Dieu et approuvé des hommes.	18 For he who serves Christ in this, pleases God and is proven before men.
19 Poursuivons donc ce qui favorise la paix et l'édification mutuelle.	19 And so, let us pursue the things that are of peace, and let us keep to the things that are for the edification of one another.
20 Ne va pas pour un aliment détruire l'oeuvre de Dieu. Tout est pur assurément, mais devient unmal pour l'homme qui mange en donnant du scandale.	20 Do not be willing to destroy the work of God because of food. Certainly, all things are clean. But there is harm for a man who offends by eating.
21 Ce qui est bien, c'est de s'abstenir de viande et de vin et de tout ce qui fait buter ou tomber oufaiblir ton frère.	21 It is good to refrain from eating meat and from drinking wine, and from anything by which your brother is offended, or led astray, or weakened.
22 Cette foi que tu as, garde-la pour toi devant Dieu. Heureux qui ne se juge pas coupable aumoment même où il se décide.	22 Do you have faith? It belongs to you, so hold it before God. Blessed is he who does not judge himself in that by which he is tested.
23 Mais celui qui mange malgré ses doutes est condamné, parce qu'il agit sans bonne foi et que toutce qui ne procède pas de la bonne foi est péché.	23 But he who discerns, if he eats, is condemned, because it is not of faith. For all that is not of faith is sin.
