JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Lorsque des hommes auront une contestation, ils iront en justice pour qu'on prononce entreeux: on donnera raison à qui a raison et tort à qui a tort.	1 'If people fal out, they must go to court for judgement; the judges must declare the one who is right tobe in the right, the one who is wrong to be in the wrong.
2 Si celui qui a tort mérite des coups, le juge le fera étendre à terre en sa présence, et frapperd'un nombre de coups proportionnel à ses torts.	2 If the one who is in the wrong deserves a flogging, the judge must have him laid on the ground andflogged in his presence, the number of strokes proportionate to his offence.
3 Il pourra lui infliger 40 coups, mais pas davantage, de peur qu'en frappant davantage lameurtrissure ne soit grave et que ton frère ne soit avili à tes yeux.	3 He may impose forty strokes but no more; otherwise, by the infliction of more, serious injury may becaused and your brother be humiliated before you.
4 Tu ne muselleras pas le boeuf quand il foule le grain.	4 'You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn.
5 Si des frères demeurent ensemble et que l'un d'eux vienne à mourir sans enfant, la femme dudéfunt ne se mariera pas au-dehors avec un homme d'une famille étrangère. Son "lévir" viendra à elle, il exercerason lévirat en la prenant pour épouse	5 'If brothers live together and one of them dies childless, the dead man's wife may not marry a strangeroutside the family. Her husband's brother must come to her and, exercising his duty as brother, make her hiswife,
6 et le premier-né qu'elle enfantera relèvera le nom de son frère défunt; ainsi son nom ne serapas effacé d'Israël.	6 and the first son she bears must assume the dead brother's name; by this means his name wil not beobliterated from Israel.
7 Mais si cet homme refuse de prendre celle dont il doit être lévir, elle ira trouver les anciens àla porte et dira: "Je n'ai pas de lévir qui veuille relever le nom de son frère en Israël, il ne consent pas à exerceren ma faveur son lévirat."	7 But if the man declines to take his brother's wife, she must go to the elders at the gate and say, "Ihave no brother-in-law willing to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel; he declines to exercise his duty asbrother in my favour."
8 Les anciens de sa cité convoqueront cet homme et lui parleront. Ayant comparu, il dira: "Jerefuse de la prendre."	8 The elders of the town must summon the man and talk to him. If, on appearing before them, he says,"I refuse to take her,"
9 Celle à qui il doit le lévirat s'approchera de lui en présence des anciens, lui ôtera sa sandaledu pied, lui crachera au visage et prononcera ces paroles: "Ainsi fait-on à l'homme qui ne relève pas la maison deson frère",	9 then the woman to whom he owes duty as brother must go up to him in the presence of the elders,take the sandal off his foot, spit in his face, and pronounce the fol owing words, "This is what is done to the manwho refuses to restore his brother's house,"
10 et sa maison sera ainsi appelée en Israël: "Maison du déchaussé.	10 and his family must henceforth be known in Israel as House of the Unshod.
11 Lorsque des hommes se battent ensemble, un homme et son frère, si la femme de l'un d'euxs'approche et, pour dégager son mari des coups de l'autre, avance la main et saisit celui-ci par les partieshonteuses,	11 'If, when two men are fighting, the wife of one intervenes to protect her husband from the other'sblows by reaching out and seizing the other by his private parts,
12 tu lui couperas la main sans un regard de pitié.	12 you must cut off her hand and show no pity.

16 Car Yahvé ton Dieu a en abomination quiconque pratique ces choses, quiconque exerce lafraude.	16 For anyone who does things of this kind and acts dishonestly is detestable to Yahweh your God.
17 Rappelle-toi ce que t'a fait Amaleq quand vous étiez en chemin à votre sortie d'Egypte.	17 'Remember how Amalek treated you when you were on your way out of Egypt.
18 Il vint à ta rencontre sur le chemin et, par derrière, après ton passage, il attaqua les éclopés;quand tu étais las et exténué, il n'eut pas crainte de Dieu.	18 He met you on your way and, after you had gone by, he fel on you from the rear and cut off thestragglers; when you were faint and weary, he had no fear of God.
19 Lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t'aura établi à l'abri de tous tes ennemis alentour, au pays queYahvé ton Dieu te donne en héritage pour le posséder, tu effaceras le souvenir d'Amaleq de dessous les cieux.N'oublie pas!	19 When Yahweh your God has granted you peace from al the enemies surrounding you, in the countrygiven you by Yahweh your God to own as your heritage, you must blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.Do not forget.'
