Deuxième livre des Chroniques 25

1 Amasias devint roi à l'âge de 25 ans et régna 29 ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelaitYehoaddân, et était de Jérusalem.	1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jehoaddan, from Jerusalem.
2 Il fit ce qui est agréable à Yahvé, non pas pourtant d'un coeur sans défaillance.	2 And he accomplished good in the sight of the Lord. Yet truly, not with a perfect heart.
3 Lorsque le royaume se fut affermi sous son gouvernement, il mit à mort ceux de ses officiersqui avaient tué le roi son père.	3 And when he saw himself to be strengthened in his rule, he cut the throats of the servants who had killed his father, the king.
4 Mais il ne fit pas mourir leurs fils, car il est écrit dans la Loi, dans le livre de Moïse, queYahvé a prescrit: Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fils et les fils ne seront pas mis à mort pour lespères, mais chacun sera mis à mort pour son propre crime.	4 But he did not put to death their sons, just as it was written in the book of the law of Moses, where the Lord instructed, saying: “The fathers shall not be slain because of the sons, nor the sons because of their fathers. Instead, each one shall die for his own sin.”
5 Amasias réunit les Judéens et les constitua en familles avec officiers de milliers et decentaines pour tout Juda et Benjamin. Il recensa ceux qui avaient vingt ans et plus et il en trouva 300.000,hommes d'élite aptes à faire campagne, la lance et le bouclier au poing.	5 And then Amaziah gathered together Judah, and he organized them by families, and tribunes, and centurions, throughout all of Judah and Benjamin. And he numbered them from twenty years old and upward. And he found three hundred thousand young men, who could go forth to battle, and who could hold spear and shield.
6 Il enrôla ensuite comme mercenaires, pour cent talents d'argent, 100.000 preux vaillantsd'Israël.	6 Also, he hired for pay from Israel one hundred thousand experienced men, for one hundred talents of silver.
7 Un homme de Dieu vint alors le trouver et lui dit: "O Roi, il ne faut pas que les troupesd'Israël viennent se joindre à toi, car Yahvé n'est ni avec Israël ni avec aucun des Ephraïmites.	7 Then a man of God came to him, and he said: “O king, let not the army of Israel go forth with you. For the Lord is not with Israel, nor with all the sons of Ephraim.
8 Car s'ils viennent, tu auras beau agir et combattre vaillamment, Dieu ne t'en fera pas moinstrébucher devant tes ennemis, car c'est en Dieu qu'est le pouvoir de soutenir et d'abattre."	8 But if you think that a war stands by the strength of the army, God will cause you to be overwhelmed by the enemies. For indeed, it belongs to God to assist, and to put to flight.”
9 Amasias répondit à l'homme de Dieu: "Quoi! Et les cent talents que j'ai donnés à la trouped'Israélites" -- "Yahvé a de quoi te donner beaucoup plus que cela", dit l'homme de Dieu.	9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, “Then what will become of the one hundred talents, which I gave to the soldiers of Israel?” And the man of God responded to him, “The Lord has that from which he is able to give much more than this to you.”
10 Amasias détacha alors de la sienne la troupe qui lui était venue d'Ephraïm et la renvoyachez elle; ces gens furent très excités contre Juda et retournèrent chez eux fort en colère.	10 And so, Amaziah separated the army, which had come to him from Ephraim, so that they would return to their place. But having become very angry against Judah, they returned to their own region.
11 Amasias se décida à partir à la tête de ses troupes, il gagna la vallée du Sel et battit 10.000fils de Séïr.	11 Then Amaziah confidently led forth his people. And he went away to the Valley of the Salt Pits, and he struck down ten thousand of the sons of Seir.
12 Les Judéens emmenèrent vivants 10.000 captifs qu'ils conduisirent au sommet de la Roche,d'où ils les précipitèrent; tous s'écrasèrent.	12 And the sons of Judah captured another ten thousand of the men. And they led them to the precipice of a certain rock. And they threw them from the summit, and they were all broken apart.
13 Quant à la troupe qu'avait congédiée Amasias au lieu de l'emmener combattre avec lui, elleenvahit les villes de Juda, de Samarie à Bet-Horôn, battit une troupe de trois milliers et fit un grand pillage.	13 But the army that Amaziah had sent away, so that they would not go with him into battle, spread out among the cities of Judah, from Samaria as far as Beth-horon. And having killed three thousand, they took away much plunder.
14 Une fois rentré de sa campagne victorieuse contre les Edomites, Amasias introduisit lesdieux des fils de Séïr, en fit ses dieux, se prosterna devant eux et les encensa.	14 Truly, after the slaughter of the Edomites, and when the gods of the sons of Seir were brought, Amaziah chose them as gods for himself. And he was adoring them, and burning incense to them.
15 La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma contre Amasias, il lui envoya un prophète qui lui dit:"Pourquoi recherches-tu les dieux de ce peuple, qui n'ont pu le sauver de ta main?"	15 For this reason, the Lord became angry against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who would say to him, “Why have you adored gods who did not free their own people from your hand?”
16 Il lui parlait encore qu'Amasias l'interrompit: "T'avons-nous nommé conseiller du roi?Arrête-toi, si tu ne veux pas qu'on te frappe." Le prophète s'arrêta, puis il dit: "Je sais que Dieu a tenu conseilpour ta perte, puisque tu as agi ainsi et que tu n'as pas écouté mon conseil."	16 And after he spoke these things, he responded to him: “Are you the counselor of the king? Be quiet! Otherwise I will put you to death.” And departing, the prophet said, “I know that God has decided to kill you, because you have done this evil, and also because you have not agreed to my counsel.”
17 Après avoir tenu conseil, Amasias, roi de Juda, envoya dire à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils deJéhu, roi d'Israël: "Viens et mesurons-nous!"	17 And so Amaziah, the king of Judah, undertaking a very wicked counsel, sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying: “Come, let us see one another.”
18 Joas, roi d'Israël, retourna ce message à Amasias, roi de Juda: "Le chardon du Liban mandaceci au cèdre du Liban: Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils, mais les bêtes sauvages du Liban passèrent etfoulèrent le chardon.	18 But he sent back messengers, saying: “The thistle which is in Lebanon sent to the cedar of Lebanon, saying: ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife.’ And behold, the beasts that were in the forest of Lebanon passed through, and they trampled the thistle.
19 Me voici vainqueur d'Edom, as-tu dit, et tu te montes la tête! Sois glorieux et restemaintenant chez toi. Pourquoi provoquer le malheur et amener ta chute et celle de Juda avec toi?"	19 You said, ‘I struck down Edom.’ And for this reason, your heart is lifted up with pride. Settle in your own house. Why do you provoke evil against yourself, so that you may fall, and then Judah with you?”
20 Mais Amasias n'écouta pas; c'était le fait de Dieu qui voulait livrer ces gens-là pour avoirrecherché les dieux d'Edom.	20 Amaziah was not willing to listen to him, because it was the will of the Lord that he be delivered into the hands of the enemies, because of the gods of Edom.
21 Joas, roi d'Israël, se mit en campagne. Ils se mesurèrent, lui et Amasias, roi de Juda, à Bet-Shémesh qui appartient à Juda.	21 And so Joash, the king of Israel, ascended, and they presented themselves within the sight of one another. Now Amaziah, the king of Judah, was in Beth-shemesh of Judah.
22 Juda fut battu devant Israël et chacun s'enfuit à sa tente.	22 And Judah fell before Israel. And each one fled to his own tent.
23 Quant au roi de Juda, Amasias, fils de Joas, fils d'Ochozias, le roi d'Israël Joas le fitprisonnier à Bet-Shémesh et l'emmena à Jérusalem. Il fit une brèche au rempart de Jérusalem, depuis la ported'Ephraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'Angle, sur 400 coudées.	23 Then Joash, the king of Israel, captured Amaziah, the king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and he led him to Jerusalem. And he destroyed its walls, from the gate of Ephraim as far as the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits.
24 Il prit tout l'or et l'argent, tout le mobilier qui se trouvait dans le Temple de Dieu chezObed-Edom, les trésors du palais royal, des otages, et retourna à Samarie.	24 Also, he brought back to Samaria all the gold and silver, and all the vessels, which he had found in the house of God, and with Obededom in the treasuries of the king’s house, as well as sons for hostages.
25 Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut encore quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils deJoachaz, roi d'Israël.	25 Then Amaziah, the son of Joash, the king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the king of Israel.
26 Le reste de l'histoire d'Amasias, du début à la fin, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Rois de Judaet d'Israël?	26 Now the rest of the words of Amaziah, the first and the last, have been written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27 Après l'époque où Amasias se détourna de Yahvé, on trama contre lui un complot àJérusalem; il s'enfuit vers Lakish, mais on le fit poursuivre à Lakish et mettre à mort là-bas.	27 And after he withdrew from the Lord, they set up an ambush against him in Jerusalem. But since he had fled into Lachish, they sent and killed him in that place.
28 On le transporta avec des chevaux et on l'enterra auprès de ses pères dans la Cité de David.	28 And having carried him back upon horses, they buried him with his fathers in the City of David.
