Deuxième livre des Rois 2

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Voici ce qui arriva lorsque Yahvé enleva Elie au ciel dans le tourbillon: Elie et Elisée partirent deGilgal,	1 This is what happened when Yahweh took Elijah up to heaven in the whirlwind: Elijah and Elisha set outfrom Gilgal,
2 et Elie dit à Elisée: "Reste donc ici, car Yahvé ne m'envoie qu'à Béthel"; mais Elisée répondit: "Aussivrai que Yahvé est vivant et que tu vis toi-même, je ne te quitterai pas!" et ils descendirent à Béthel.	2 and Elijah said to Elisha, 'You stay here, for Yahweh is only sending me to Bethel.' But Elisha replied,'As Yahweh lives and as you yourself live, I wil not leave you!' and they went down to Bethel.
3 Les frères prophètes, qui résident à Béthel, sortirent à la rencontre d'Elisée et lui dirent: "Sais-tuqu'aujourd'hui Yahvé va emporter ton maître par-dessus ta tête?" Il dit: "Moi aussi je sais; silence!"	3 The brotherhood of prophets living at Bethel came out to meet Elisha and said, 'Do you know thatYahweh wil carry your lord and master away today?' 'Yes, I know,' he said, 'be quiet.'
4 Elie lui dit: "Elisée! Reste donc ici, car Yahvé ne m'envoie qu'à Jéricho"; mais il répondit: "Aussivrai que Yahvé est vivant et que tu vis toi-même, je ne te quitterai pas!" et ils allèrent à Jéricho.	4 Elijah said, 'Elisha, you stay here, Yahweh is only sending me to Jericho.' But he replied, 'As Yahwehlives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you!' and they went on to Jericho.
5 Les frères prophètes qui résident à Jéricho s'approchèrent d'Elisée et lui dirent: "Sais-tuqu'aujourd'hui Yahvé va emporter ton maître par-dessus ta tête?" Il dit: "Moi aussi je sais; silence!"	5 The brotherhood of prophets living at Jericho went up to Elisha and said, 'Do you know that Yahweh wil carry your lord and master away today?' 'Yes, I know,' he said, 'be quiet.'
6 Elie lui dit: "Reste donc ici, car Yahvé ne m'envoie qu'au Jourdain"; mais il répondit: "Aussi vrai queYahvé est vivant et que tu vis toi-même, je ne te quitterai pas!" et ils s'en allèrent tous deux.	6 Elijah said, 'Elisha, you stay here, Yahweh is only sending me to the Jordan.' But he replied, 'As Yahwehlives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you!' And they went on together.
7 50 frères prophètes vinrent et s'arrêtèrent à distance, au loin, pendant que tous deux se tenaient aubord du Jourdain.	7 Fifty of the brotherhood of prophets followed them, halting some distance away as the two of them stoodbeside the Jordan.
8 Alors Elie prit son manteau, le roula et frappa les eaux, qui se divisèrent d'un côté et de l'autre, et tousdeux traversèrent à pied sec.	8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water; and the water divided to left and right, and the twoof them crossed over dry-shod.
9 Dès qu'ils eurent passé, Elie dit à Elisée: "Demande: Que puis-je faire pour toi avant d'être enlevéd'auprès de toi?" Et Elisée répondit: "Que me revienne une double part de ton esprit!"	9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, 'Make your request. What can I do for you before I amsnatched away from you?' Elisha answered, 'Let me inherit a double share of your spirit.'
10 Elie reprit: "Tu demandes une chose difficile: si tu me vois pendant que je serai enlevé d'auprès detoi, cela t'arrivera; sinon, cela n'arrivera pas."	10 'Your request is difficult,' Elijah said. 'If you see me while I am being snatched away from you, it wil beas you ask; if not, it wil not be so.'
11 Or, comme ils marchaient en conversant, voici qu'un char de feu et des chevaux de feu se mirententre eux deux, et Elie monta au ciel dans le tourbillon.	11 Now as they walked on, talking as they went, a chariot of fire appeared and horses of fire comingbetween the two of them; and Elijah went up to heaven in the whirlwind.
12 Elisée voyait et il criait: "Mon père! Mon père! Char d'Israël et son attelage!" puis il ne le vit pluset, saisissant ses vêtements, il les déchira en deux.	12 Elisha saw it, and shouted, 'My father! My father! Chariot of Israel and its chargers!' Then he lost sightof him, and taking hold of his own clothes he tore them in half.
13 Il ramassa le manteau d'Elie, qui avait glissé, et revint se tenir sur la rive du Jourdain.	13 He picked up Elijah's cloak which had fal en, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
14 Il prit le manteau d'Elie et il frappa les eaux en disant: "Où est Yahvé, le Dieu d'Elie?" Il frappa leseaux, qui se divisèrent d'un côté et de l'autre, et Elisée traversa.	14 He took Elijah's cloak and struck the water. 'Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?' he cried. As hestruck the water it divided to right and left, and Elisha crossed over.
15 Les frères prophètes le virent à distance et dirent: "L'esprit d'Elie s'est reposé sur Elisée!;" ils vinrentà sa rencontre et se prosternèrent à terre devant lui.	15 The brotherhood of prophets saw him in the distance, and said, 'The spirit of Elijah has come to rest onElisha'; they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
16 Ils lui dirent: "Il y a ici avec tes serviteurs 50 braves. Permets qu'ils aillent à la recherche de tonmaître; peut-être l'Esprit de Yahvé l'a-t-il enlevé et jeté sur quelque montagne ou dans quelque vallée", mais ilrépondit: "N'envoyez personne."	16 'Look,' they said, 'your servants have fifty strong men with them, let them go and look for your master;the Spirit of Yahweh may have taken him up and thrown him down on a mountain or into a val ey.' 'Send no one,'he replied.
17 Cependant, comme ils l'importunaient de leurs instances, il dit: "Envoyez!" Ils envoyèrent donc 50hommes, qui cherchèrent pendant trois jours sans le trouver.	17 But they so shamed him with their insistence that he consented. So they sent fifty men who searchedfor three days without finding him.
18 Ils revinrent vers Elisée qui était resté à Jéricho, et il leur dit: "Ne vous avais-je pas prévenus de nepas aller?"	18 They then came back to Elisha who had stayed in Jericho; he said, 'Didn't I tell you not to go?'
19 Les hommes de la ville dirent à Elisée: "La ville est un séjour agréable, comme Monseigneur peutvoir, mais les eaux sont malsaines et le pays souffre d'avortements."	19 The people of the city said to Elisha, 'The city is pleasant to live in, as my lord indeed can see, but thewater is foul and the country suffers from miscarriages.'
20 Il dit: "Apportez-moi une écuelle neuve où vous aurez mis du sel", et ils la lui apportèrent.	20 'Bring me a new bowl,' he said, 'and put some salt in it.' They brought it to him.
21 Il alla où jaillissaient les eaux, il y jeta du sel et dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé: J'assainis ces eaux, il neviendra plus de là ni mort ni avortement."	21 Then he went to the source of the water, threw salt into it and said, 'Yahweh says this, "I make thiswater wholesome: neither death nor miscarriage shal come from it any more." '
22 Et les eaux furent assainies jusqu'à ce jour, selon la parole qu'Elisée avait dite.	22 And the water became wholesome, as it is today, exactly as Elisha had said it would.
23 Il monta de là à Béthel, et, comme il montait par le chemin, de jeunes garçons sortirent de la ville etse moquèrent de lui, en disant: "Monte, tondu! Monte, tondu!"	23 From there he went up to Bethel, and while he was on the road, some smal boys came out of the townand jeered at him. 'Hurry up, baldy!' they shouted. 'Come on up, baldy!'
24 Il se retourna, les vit et les maudit au nom de Yahvé. Alors deux ourses sortirent du bois etdéchirèrent 42 des enfants.	24 He turned round and looked at them; and he cursed them in the name of Yahweh. And two bears cameout of the forest and savaged forty-two of the boys.
25 Il alla de là au mont Carmel, puis il revint à Samarie.	25 From there he went on to Mount Carmel and then returned to Samaria.
