1 Then Samson went down to Thamnatlia, and seeing there a woman of the daughters of the Philistines,	1 Als Simson (eines Tages) nach Timna hinabging, fiel sein Blick auf eine der jungen Philisterinnen aus Timna.
2 He came up, and told his father and his mother, saying: I saw a woman in Thamnatha of the daughters of the Philistines: I beseech you, take her for me to wife.	2 Als er wieder heraufkam, teilte er es seinem Vater und seiner Mutter mit und sagte: Ich habe in Timna eine junge Philisterin gesehen. Gebt sie mir doch zur Frau!
3 And his father and mother said to him: Is there no woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou wilt take a wife of the Philistines, who are uncircumcised? And Samson said to his father: Take this woman for me, for she hath pleased my eyes.	3 Sein Vater und seine Mutter erwiderten ihm: Gibt es denn unter den Töchtern deiner Stammesbrüder und in meinem ganzen Volk keine Frau, sodass du fortgehen und eine Frau von diesen unbeschnittenen Philistern heiraten musst? Simson antwortete seinem Vater: Gib mir diese, denn sie gefällt mir.
4 Now his parents knew not that the thing was done by the Lord, and that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.	4 Sein Vater und seine Mutter wussten nicht, dass es vom Herrn so geplant war, weil er einen Anlass zum Kampf mit den Philistern suchte. Damals herrschten nämlich die Philister über Israel.
5 Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Thamnatha. And when they were come to the vineyards of the town, behold a young lion met him raging and roaring.	5 Simson ging [mit seinem Vater und seiner Mutter] nach Timna. Als sie bei den Weinbergen von Timna waren, kam ihm plötzlich ein brüllender junger Löwe entgegen.
6 And the spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, and he tore the lion as he would have torn a kid in pieces, having nothing at all in his hand: and he would not tell this to his father and mother.	6 Da kam der Geist des Herrn über Simson und Simson zerriss den Löwen mit bloßen Händen, als würde er ein Böckchen zerreißen. Aber seinem Vater und seiner Mutter teilte er nicht mit, was er getan hatte.
7 And he went down and spoke to the woman that had pleased his eyes.	7 Dann ging er hinab und redete mit der Frau und sie gefiel Simson.
8 And after some days returning to take her, he went aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold there was a swarm of bees in the mouth of the lion and a honeycomb.	8 Nach einiger Zeit ging er wieder hin, um sie zu heiraten. Dabei bog er vom Weg ab, um nach dem Kadaver des Löwen zu sehen. Da fand er im Körper des Löwen einen Bienenschwarm und Honig.
9 And when be had taken it in his hands, he went on eating: and coming to his father and mother, he gave them of it, and they ate: but he would not tell them, that he had taken the honey from the body of the lion.	9 Er löste den Honig mit den Händen heraus und aß davon im Weitergehen. Als er zu seinem Vater und zu seiner Mutter kam, gab er ihnen davon und sie aßen ebenfalls. Er sagte ihnen aber nicht, dass er den Honig aus dem Kadaver des Löwen herausgeholt hatte.
10 So his father went down to the woman, and made a feast for his son Samson: for so the young men used to do.	10 Auch sein Vater kam zu der Frau hinab und Simson veranstaltete dort ein Trinkgelage, wie es die jungen Leute zu machen pflegen.
11 And when the citizens of that place saw him, they brought him thirty companions to be with him.	11 Weil man aber vor ihm Angst hatte, holte man dreißig Männer hinzu, die um ihn sein sollten.
12 And Samson said to them: I will propose to you a riddle, which if you declare unto me within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty shirts, and as many coats:	12 Simson sagte zu ihnen: Ich will euch ein Rätsel aufgeben. Wenn ihr es mir in den sieben Tagen des Gelages erraten und lösen könnt, dann will ich euch dreißig Hemden und dreißig Festgewänder geben.
13 But if you shall not be able to declare it, you shall give me thirty shirts and the same number of coats. They answered him: Put forth the riddle that we may hear it.	13 Wenn ihr mir aber die Lösung nicht sagen könnt, dann sollt ihr mir dreißig Hemden und dreißig Festgewänder geben. Sie sagten zu ihm: Sag uns dein Rätsel, wir möchten es hören.
14 And he said to them: Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.	14 Er sagte zu ihnen: Vom Fresser kommt Speise, vom Starken kommt Süßes. Sie aber konnten es drei Tage lang nicht lösen.
15 And when the seventh day came, they said to the wife of Samson: Soothe thy husband, and persuade him to tell thee what the riddle meaneth. But if thou wilt not do it, we will burn thee, and thy father's house. Have you called us to the wedding on purpose to strip us?	15 Am vierten Tag sagten sie zur Frau Simsons: Überrede deinen Mann, dass er uns die Lösung des Rätsels nennt; sonst werden wir dich samt dem Haus deines Vaters verbrennen. Habt ihr uns hierher eingeladen, um uns arm zu machen?
16 So she wept before Samson and complained, saying: Thou hatest me, and dost not love me: therefore thou wilt not expound to me the riddle which thou hast proposed to the sons of my people. But he answered: I would not tell it to my father and mother, and how can I tell it to thee?	16 Da weinte die Frau Simsons vor ihm und sagte: Du hast eine Abneigung gegen mich und liebst mich nicht. Du hast den Söhnen meines Volkes ein Rätsel aufgegeben und hast mir nicht die Lösung gesagt. Er erwiderte ihr: Ich habe es ja nicht einmal meinem Vater und meiner Mutter gesagt. Wie sollte ich es dir sagen?
17 So she wept before him the seven days of the feast: and at length on the seventh day as she was troublesome to him, he expounded it. And she immediately told her countrymen.	17 Sie aber weinte sieben Tage lang vor ihm, solange sie Gelage hielten. Am siebten Tag aber sagte er es ihr, weil sie ihm so zusetzte, und sie teilte die Lösung den Söhnen ihres Vaters mit.
18 And they on the seventh day before the sun went down said to him: What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said to them: If you had not ploughed with my heifer, you had not found out my riddle.	18 Und am siebten Tag sagten die Männer der Stadt zu ihm, bevor die Sonne unterging: Was ist süßer als Honig und was ist stärker als ein Löwe? Er erwiderte ihnen: Hättet ihr nicht mit meiner Kuh gepflügt, dann hättet ihr mein Rätsel nicht erraten.
19 And the spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ascalon, and slew there thirty men, whose garments he took away and gave to them that had declared the riddle. And being exceeding angry he went up to his father's house:	19 Und der Geist des Herrn kam über ihn; er ging nach Aschkelon hinab und erschlug dort dreißig Mann von ihnen, nahm ihnen ihre Kleider und gab die Gewänder denen, die das Rätsel gelöst hatten. Dann ging er zornentbrannt hinauf in das Haus seines Vaters.
20 But his wife took one of his friends and bridal companions for her husband.	20 Seine Frau erhielt sein Freund, der der Brautführer gewesen war.
