DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him:1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.
And behold a leper came and adored him, saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'
And Jesus stretching forth his hand, touched him, saying: I will, be thou made clean. And forthwith his leprosy was cleansed.3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.
And Jesus saith to him: See thou tell no man: but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded for a testimony unto them.4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'
And when he had entered into Capharnaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him,5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, and is grieviously tormented.6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'
And Jesus saith to him: I will come and heal him.7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'
And the centurion making answer, said: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.
For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers; and I say to this, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Come, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'
And Jesus hearing this, marvelled; and said to them that followed him: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith in Israel.10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.
And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven:11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'
And Jesus said to the centurion: Go, and as thou hast believed, so be it done to thee. And the servant was healed at the same hour.13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.
And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother lying, and sick of a fever:14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she arose and ministered to them.15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.
And when evening was come, they brought to him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word: and all that were sick he healed:16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.
That it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet Isaias, saying: He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases.17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.
And Jesus seeing great multitudes about him, gave orders to pass over the water.18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.
And a certain scribe came and said to him: Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou shalt go.19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'
And Jesus saith to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests: but the son of man hath not where to lay his head.20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'
And another of his disciples said to him: Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'
But Jesus said to him: Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'
And when he entered into the boat, his disciples followed him:23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.
And behold a great tempest arose in the sea, so that the boat was covered with waves, but he was asleep.24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.
And they came to him, and awaked him, saying: Lord, save us, we perish.25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'
And Jesus saith to them: Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith? Then rising up he commanded the winds, and the sea, and there came a great calm.26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
But the men wondered, saying: What manner of man is this, for the winds and the sea obey him?27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'
And when he was come on the other side of the water, into the country of the Gerasens, there met him two that were possessed with devils, coming out of the sepulchres, exceeding fierce, so that none could pass by that way.28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.
And behold they cried out, saying: What have we to do with thee, Jesus Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'
And there was, not far from them, an herd of many swine feeding.30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,
And the devils besought him, saying: If thou cast us out hence, send us into the herd of swine.31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'
And he said to them: Go. But they going out went into the swine, and behold the whole herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea: and they perished in the waters.32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.
And they that kept them fled: and coming into the city, told every thing, and concerning them that had been possessed by the devils.33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.
And behold the whole city went out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart from their coasts.34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.
