DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
The word that Isaias the son of Amos saw, concerning Juda and Jerusalem.1 This is what Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
And in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared on the top of mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it.2 In days to come, The mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established as the highest mountain and raised above the hills. All nations shall stream toward it;
And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.3 many peoples shall come and say: "Come, let us climb the LORD'S mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob, That he may instruct us in his ways, and we may walk in his paths." For from Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And he shall judge the Gentiles, and rebuke many people: and they shall turn their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into sickles: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they be exercised any more to war.4 He shall judge between the nations, and impose terms on many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; One nation shall not raise the sword against another, nor shall they train for war again.
O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.5 O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD!
For thou hast cast off thy people, the house of Jacob: because they are filled as in times past, and have had soothsayers as the Philistines, and have adhered to strange children.6 You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with fortunetellers and soothsayers, like the Philistines; they covenant with strangers.
Their land is filled with silver and gold: and there is no end of their treasures.7 Their land is full of silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; Their land is full of horses, and there is no end to their chariots.
And their land is filled with horses: and their chariots are innumerable. Their land also is full of idols: they have adored the work of their own hands, which their own fingers have made.8 Their land is full of idols; they worship the works of their hands, that which their fingers have made.
And man hath bowed himself down, and man hath been debased: therefore forgive them not.9 But man is abased, each one brought low. (Do not pardon them!)
Enter thou into the rock, and hide thee in the pit from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty.10 Get behind the rocks, hide in the dust, From the terror of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty!
The lofty eyes of man are humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be made to stoop: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.11 The haughty eyes of man will be lowered, the arrogance of men will be abased, and the LORD alone will be exalted, on that day.
Because the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and highminded, and upon every one that is arrogant, and he shall be humbled.12 For the LORD of hosts will have his day against all that is proud and arrogant, all that is high, and it will be brought low;
And upon all the tall and lofty cedars of Libanus, and upon all the oaks of Basan.13 Yes, against all the cedars of Lebanon and all the oaks of Bashan,
And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the elevated hills.14 Against all the lofty mountains and all the high hills,
And upon every high tower, and every fenced wall.15 Against every lofty tower and every fortified wall,
And upon all the ships of Tharsis, and upon all that is fair to behold.16 Against all the ships of Tarshish and all stately vessels.
And the loftiness of men shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be humbled, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.17 Human pride will be abased, the arrogance of men brought low, And the LORD alone will be exalted, on that day.
And idols shall be utterly destroyed.18 The idols will perish forever.
And they shall go into the holes of rocks, and into the caves of the earth from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.19 Men will go into caves in the rocks and into holes in the earth, From the terror of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to overawe the earth.
In that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which he had made for himself to adore, moles and bats.20 On that day men will throw to the moles and the bats the idols of silver and gold which they made for worship.
,21And he shall go into the clefts of rocks, and into the holes of stones from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.21 They go into caverns in the rocks and into crevices in the cliffs, From the terror of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to overawe the earth.
Cease ye therefore from the man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for he is reputed high.22 As for you, let man alone, in whose nostrils is but a breath; for what is he worth?
