DOUAI-RHEIMSLXX
Simon the high priest, the son of Onias, who in his life propped up the house, and in his days fortified the temple.1 εξομολογησομαι σοι κυριε βασιλευ και αινεσω σε θεον τον σωτηρα μου εξομολογουμαι τω ονοματι σου
By him also the height of the temple was founded, the double building and the high walls of the temple.2 οτι σκεπαστης και βοηθος εγενου μοι και ελυτρωσω το σωμα μου εξ απωλειας και εκ παγιδος διαβολης γλωσσης απο χειλεων εργαζομενων ψευδος και εναντι των παρεστηκοτων εγενου βοηθος και ελυτρωσω με
In his days the wells of water flowed out, and they were filled as the sea above measure.3 κατα το πληθος ελεους και ονοματος σου εκ βρυγμων ετοιμον εις βρωμα εκ χειρος ζητουντων την ψυχην μου εκ πλειονων θλιψεων ων εσχον
He took care of his nation, and delivered it from destruction.4 απο πνιγμου πυρας κυκλοθεν και εκ μεσου πυρος ου ουκ εξεκαυσα
He prevailed to enlarge the city, and obtained glory in his conversation with the people: and enlarged the entrance of the house and the court.5 εκ βαθους κοιλιας αδου και απο γλωσσης ακαθαρτου και λογου ψευδους
He shone in his days as the morning star in the midst of a cloud, and as the moon at the full.6 βασιλει διαβολη γλωσσης αδικου ηγγισεν εως θανατου η ψυχη μου και η ζωη μου ην συνεγγυς αδου κατω
And as the sun when it shineth, so did he shine in the temple of God.7 περιεσχον με παντοθεν και ουκ ην ο βοηθων ενεβλεπον εις αντιλημψιν ανθρωπων και ουκ ην
And as the rainbow giving light in the bright clouds, and as the flower of roses in the days of the spring, and as the lilies that are on the brink of the water, and as the sweet smelling frankincense in the time of summer.8 και εμνησθην του ελεους σου κυριε και της εργασιας σου της απ' αιωνος οτι εξαιρη τους υπομενοντας σε και σωζεις αυτους εκ χειρος εχθρων
As a bright Are, and frankincense burning in the fire.9 και ανυψωσα απο γης ικετειαν μου και υπερ θανατου ρυσεως εδεηθην
As a massy vessel of gold, adorned with every precious stone.10 επεκαλεσαμην κυριον πατερα κυριου μου μη με εγκαταλιπειν εν ημεραις θλιψεως εν καιρω υπερηφανιων αβοηθησιας αινεσω το ονομα σου ενδελεχως και υμνησω εν εξομολογησει
As an olive tree budding forth, and a cypress tree rearing itself on high, when he put on the robe of glory, and was clothed with the perfection of power.11 και εισηκουσθη η δεησις μου εσωσας γαρ με εξ απωλειας και εξειλου με εκ καιρου πονηρου
When he went up to the holy altar, he honoured the vesture of holiness.12 δια τουτο εξομολογησομαι σοι και αινεσω σε και ευλογησω τω ονοματι κυριου
And when he took the portions out of the hands of the priests, he himself stood by the altar. And about him was the ring of his brethren: and as the cedar planted in mount Libanus,13 ετι ων νεωτερος πριν η πλανηθηναι με εζητησα σοφιαν προφανως εν προσευχη μου
And as branches of palm trees, they stood round about him, and all the sons of Aaron in their glory.14 εναντι ναου ηξιουν περι αυτης και εως εσχατων εκζητησω αυτην
And the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, before all the congregation of Israel: and finishing his service, on the altar, to honour the offering of the most high Ring,15 εξ ανθους ως περκαζουσης σταφυλης ευφρανθη η καρδια μου εν αυτη επεβη ο πους μου εν ευθυτητι εκ νεοτητος μου ιχνευον αυτην
He stretched forth his hand to make a libation, and offered of the blood of the grape.16 εκλινα ολιγον το ους μου και εδεξαμην και πολλην ευρον εμαυτω παιδειαν
He poured out at the foot of the altar a divine odour to the most high Prince.17 προκοπη εγενετο μοι εν αυτη τω διδοντι μοι σοφιαν δωσω δοξαν
Then the sons of Aaron shouted, they sounded with beaten trumpets, and made a great noise to be heard for a remembrance before God.18 διενοηθην γαρ του ποιησαι αυτην και εζηλωσα το αγαθον και ου μη αισχυνθω
Then all the people together made haste, and fell down to the earth upon their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to pray to the Almighty God the most High.19 διαμεμαχισται η ψυχη μου εν αυτη και εν ποιησει νομου διηκριβασαμην τας χειρας μου εξεπετασα προς υψος και τα αγνοηματα αυτης επενθησα
And the singers lifted up their voices. and in the great house the sound of sweet melody was increased.20 την ψυχην μου κατευθυνα εις αυτην και εν καθαρισμω ευρον αυτην καρδιαν εκτησαμην μετ' αυτης απ' αρχης δια τουτο ου μη εγκαταλειφθω
And the people in prayer besought the Lord the most High, until the worship of the Lord was perfected, and they had finished their office.21 και η κοιλια μου εταραχθη του εκζητησαι αυτην δια τουτο εκτησαμην αγαθον κτημα
Then coming down, he lifted up his hands over all the congregation of the children of Israel, to give glory to God with his lips, and to glory in his name:22 εδωκεν κυριος γλωσσαν μοι μισθον μου και εν αυτη αινεσω αυτον
And he repeated his prayer, willing to shew the power of God.23 εγγισατε προς με απαιδευτοι και αυλισθητε εν οικω παιδειας
And now pray ye to the God of all, who hath done great things in all the earth, who hath increased our days from our mother's womb, and hath done with us according to his mercy.24 τι οτι υστερεισθαι λεγετε εν τουτοις και αι ψυχαι υμων διψωσι σφοδρα
May he grant us joyfulness of heart, and that there be peace in our days in Israel for ever:25 ηνοιξα το στομα μου και ελαλησα κτησασθε εαυτοις ανευ αργυριου
That Israel may believe that the mercy of God is with us, to deliver us in his days.26 τον τραχηλον υμων υποθετε υπο ζυγον και επιδεξασθω η ψυχη υμων παιδειαν εγγυς εστιν ευρειν αυτην
There are two nations which my soul abhorreth: and the third is no nation, which I hate:27 ιδετε εν οφθαλμοις υμων οτι ολιγον εκοπιασα και ευρον εμαυτω πολλην αναπαυσιν
They that sit on mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people that dwell in Sichem.28 μετασχετε παιδειας εν πολλω αριθμω αργυριου και πολυν χρυσον κτησασθε εν αυτη
Jesus the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, hath written in this book the doctrine of wisdom and instruction, who renewed wisdom from his heart.29 ευφρανθειη η ψυχη υμων εν τω ελεει αυτου και μη αισχυνθειητε εν αινεσει αυτου
Blessed is he that is conversant in these good things: and he that layeth them up in his heart, shall be wise always.30 εργαζεσθε το εργον υμων προ καιρου και δωσει τον μισθον υμων εν καιρω αυτου .
For if he do them, he shall be strong to do all things: because the light of God guideth his steps.
