Wisdom 1

DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Love justice, you that are the judges of the earth. Think of the Lord in goodness, and seek him in simplicity of heart.1 Love justice, you who judge the earth; think of the LORD in goodness, and seek him in integrity of heart;
For he is found by them that tempt him not: and he sheweth himself to them that have faith in him.2 Because he is found by those who test him not, and he manifests himself to those who do not disbelieve him.
For perverse thoughts seperate from God: and his power, when it is tried, reproveth the unwise:3 For perverse counsels separate a man from God, and his power, put to the proof, rebukes the foolhardy;
For wisdom will not enter into a malicious soul, nor dwell in a body subject to sins.4 Because into a soul that plots evil wisdom enters not, nor dwells she in a body under debt of sin.
For the Holy Spirit of discipline will flee from the deceitful, and will withdraw himself from thoughts that are without understanding, and he shall not abide when iniquity cometh in.5 For the holy spirit of discipline flees deceit and withdraws from senseless counsels; and when injustice occurs it is rebuked.
For the spirit of wisdom is benevolent, and will not acquit the evil speaker from his lips: for God is witness of his reins, and he is a true searcher of his heart, and a hearer of his tongue.6 For wisdom is a kindly spirit, yet she acquits not the blasphemer of his guilty lips; Because God is the witness of his inmost self and the sure observer of his heart and the listener to his tongue.
For the spirit of the Lord hath filled the whole world: and that, which containeth all things, hath knowledge of the voice.7 For the spirit of the LORD fills the world, is all-embracing, and knows what man says.
Therefore he that speaketh unjust things cannot be hid, neither shall the chastising judgment pass him by.8 Therefore no one who utters wicked things can go unnoticed, nor will chastising condemnation pass him by.
For inquisition shall be made into the thoughts of the ungodly: and the hearing of his words shall come to God, to the chastising of his iniquities.9 For the devices of the wicked man shall be scrutinized, and the sound of his words shall reach the LORD, for the chastisement of his transgressions;
For the ear of jealousy heareth all things, and the tumult of murmuring shall not be hid.10 Because a jealous ear hearkens to everything, and discordant grumblings are no secret.
Keep yourselves therefore from murmuring, which profiteth nothing, and refrain your tongue from detraction, for an obscure speech shall not go for nought: and the mouth that belieth, killeth the soul.11 Therefore guard against profitless grumbling, and from calumny withhold your tongues; For a stealthy utterance does not go unpunished, and a lying mouth slays the soul.
Seek not death in the error of your life, neither procure ye destruction by the works of your hands.12 Court not death by your erring way of life, nor draw to yourselves destruction by the works of your hands.
For God made not death, neither hath he pleasure in the destruction of the living.13 Because God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living.
For he created all things that they might be: and he made the nations of the earth for health: and there is no poison of destruction in them, nor kingdom of hell upon the earth.14 For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome, And there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the nether world on earth,
For justice is perpetual and immortal.15 For justice is undying.
But the wicked with works and words have called it to them: and esteeming it a friend have fallen away, and have made a covenant with it: because they are worthy to be of the part thereof.16 It was the wicked who with hands and words invited death, considered it a friend, and pined for it, and made a covenant with it, Because they deserve to be in its possession,
