1 Now it came to pass, when the nations round about heard that the altar and the sanctuary were built up as before, that they were exceeding angry.	1 Gdy okoliczne narody dowiedziały się, że odbudowano ołtarz, a świątynię na nowo poświęcono, tak jak poprzednio, rozgniewały się bardzo
2 And they thought to destroy the generation of Jacob that were among them, and they began to kill some of the people, and to persecute them.	2 i postanowiły, że trzeba wytępić tych z rodu Jakuba, którzy mieszkają pomiędzy nimi. Zaczęto więc lud mordować i tępić.
3 Then Judas fought against the children of Esau in Idumea, and them that were in Acrabathane: because they beset the Israelites around about, and he made a great slaughter of them.	3 Juda jednak walczył przeciwko synom Ezawa w Idumei, przeciwko Akrabattanie, bo dokoła osaczali Izraela. Zadał im wielką klęskę, zgnębił ich i zabrał łupy na nich zdobyte.
4 And he remembered the malice of the children of Bean: who were a snare and a stumblingblock to the people, by lying in wait for them in the way.	4 Potem przypomniał sobie złości Bajanitów. Oni to bowiem urządzali zasadzki na drodze i przez to byli dla ludu sidłem i zawadą.
5 And they were shut up by him in towers, and he set upon them, and devoted them to utter destruction, and burnt their towers with fire, and all that were in them.	5 Zamknęli się przed nim w wieżach, ale on ich obległ i obłożył ich klątwą, a potem spalił ich wieże razem z tymi, którzy się do nich schronili.
6 Then he passed over to the children of Ammon, where he found a mighty power, and much people, and Timotheus was their captain:	6 Następnie przeprawił się do Ammonitów. Tam jednak zastał wojsko mocne i lud liczny pod dowództwem Tymoteusza.
7 And he fought many battles with them, and they were discomfited in their sight, and he smote them:	7 Stoczył z nimi wiele bitew, tak że zostali przed nim starci, i zadał im klęskę.
8 And he took the city of Gazer and her towns, and returned into Judea.	8 Zdobył jeszcze Jazer i przynależne miejscowości i wtedy dopiero wrócił do Judei.
9 And the Gentiles that were in Galaad, assembled themselves together against the Israelites that were in their quarters to destroy them: and they fled into the fortress of Datheman.	9 Poganie z Gileadu zebrali się także, aby wytępić Izraelitów, którzy mieszkali na ich ziemiach. Oni jednak uciekli do twierdzy Datema
10 And they sent letters to Judas and his brethren, saying, The heathens that are round about are gathered together against us, to destroy us:	10 i wysłali pismo do Judy i do jego braci z prośbą: Poganie, którzy mieszkają wokoło nas, zebrali się przeciwko nam, aby nas wytępić.
11 And they are preparing to come, and to take the fortress into which we are fled: and Timotheus is the captain of their host.	11 Przygotowują się, aby przyjść i zdobyć twierdzę, do której się schroniliśmy. Dowódcą ich wojska jest Tymoteusz.
12 Now therefore come, and deliver us out of their hands, for many of us are slain.	12 Przybądź więc i wybaw nas z ich ręki, mnóstwo nas bowiem już zginęło.
13 And all our brethren that were in the places of Tubin, are killed: and they have carried away their wives, and their children, captives, and taken their spoils, and they have slain there almost a thousand men.	13 Mordują także wszystkich naszych braci, którzy mieszkają w Tubi, uprowadzili ich żony i dzieci, a mienie im zabrali, zginęło tam około tysiąca ludzi.
14 And while they were yet reading these letters, behold there came other messengers out Galilee with their garments rent, who related according to these words:	14 Jeszcze nie skończono czytać tych listów, gdy przybyli inni posłańcy z Galilei, którzy rozdzierając swe szaty, oznajmili tymi słowami:
15 Saying, that they of Ptolemais, and of Tyre, and of Sidon, were assembled against them, and all Galilee is filled with strangers, in order to consume us.	15 Z Ptolemaidy, Tyru, Sydonu i z pogańskiej części Galilei zebrało się wielu po to, aby nas zgubić.
16 Now when Judas and all the people heard these words, a great assembly met together to consider what they should do for their brethren that were in trouble, and were assaulted by them.	16 Gdy Juda i lud dowiedzieli się o tych wydarzeniach, zwołano wielkie zgromadzenie, aby się naradzić, jak należy pomóc braciom, którzy są w ucisku, gdyż poganie walczą przeciwko nim.
17 And Judas said to Simon his brother: Choose thee men, and go, and deliver they brethren in Galilee: and I, and my brother Jonathan will go into the country of Galaad.	17 Wtedy Juda powiedział do swego brata Szymona: Wybierz sobie żołnierzy, idź i uwolnij swych braci, którzy mieszkają w Galilei. Ja zaś i mój brat Jonatan pójdziemy do Gileadu.
18 And he left Joseph the son of Zacharias, and Azarias captains of the people with the remnant of the army in Judea to keep it:	18 W Judei na straży postawił Józefa, syna Zachariasza, i Azariasza, wodza ludu, razem z pozostałą częścią wojska.
19 And he commanded them, saying: Take ye the charge of this people: but make no war against the heathens, till we return.	19 Rozkazał im, mówiąc: Stańcie na czele tego ludu, ale bitwy z poganami nie staczajcie tak długo, aż my powrócimy.
20 Now three thousand men were alloted to Simon, to go into Gallilee: and eight thousand to Judas to go into the land of Galaad.	20 Potem podzielił wojsko: z Szymonem trzy tysiące żołnierzy w drogę do Galilei, a z Judą osiem tysięcy żołnierzy do Gileadu.
21 And Simon went into Galilee, and fought many battles with the heathens: and the heathens were discomfited before his face, and he pursued them even to the gate of Ptolemais.	21 Szymon udał się do Galilei i wiele bitew stoczył z poganami, tak że poganie zostali starci przed nim,
22 And there fell of the heathens almost three thousand men, and he took the spoils of them,	22 a on ścigał ich aż do bram Ptolemaidy. Spomiędzy pogan padło blisko trzy tysiące żołnierzy, a on zabrał łupy na nich zdobyte.
23 And he took with him those that were in Galilee and in Arbatis with their wives, and children, and all that they had, and he brought them into Judea with great joy.	23 Zabrał też ludzi, którzy mieszkali w Galilei i w Arbattach, razem z żonami i dziećmi, i ze wszystkim, co było ich własnością, i przyprowadził ich z wielką radością do Judei.
24 And Judas Machabeus, and Jonathan his brother passed over the Jordan, and went three days' journey through the desert.	24 Juda Machabeusz zaś i jego brat Jonatan przeprawili się przez Jordan i trzy dni szli przez pustynię.
25 And the Nabutheans met them, and received them in a peaceable manner, and told them all that happened to their brethren in the land of Galaad,	25 Wtedy spotkali się z Nabatejczykami. Oni jednak przyjęli ich pokojowo i opowiedzieli im o wszystkim, co się działo z ich braćmi w Gileadzie,
26 And that many of them were shut up in Barasa, and in Bosor, and in Alima, and in Casphor, and in Mageth, and in Carnaim: all these strong and great cities.	26 że mianowicie wielu z nich jest zamkniętych w Bosorra, w Bosor i Alema, w Kasfo, w Maked i Karnaim - a wszystko to są miasta wielkie i obronne -
27 Yea, and that they were kept shut up in the rest of the cities of Galaad, and that they had appointed to bring their army on the morrow near to these cities, and to take them and to destroy them all in one day.	27 a także w pozostałych miastach Gileadu są pozamykani. Następnego dnia poganie mają zamiar otoczyć twierdze wojskiem, zdobyć je i w ciągu jednego dnia wymordować ich wszystkich.
28 Then Judas and his army suddenly turned their march into the desert, to Bosor, and took the city: and he slew every male by the edge of the sword, and took all their spoils, and burnt it with fire.	28 Wtedy Juda razem ze swym wojskiem nagle zmienił swoją drogę i poszedł przez pustynię do Bosorra, zdobył miasto, wszystkich mężczyzn zabił ostrzem miecza, zabrał wszystkie łupy na nich zdobyte, a miasto spalił.
29 And they removed from thence by night, and went till they came to the fortress.	29 W nocy zaś wyruszył stamtąd, i udali się w stronę twierdzy.
30 And it came to pass that early in the morning, when they lifted up their eyes, behold there were people without number, carrying ladders and engines to take the fortress, and assault them.	30 Rankiem, gdy podnieśli oczy, oto zobaczyli, jak wojsko liczne, nieprzeliczone, podprowadzało drabiny i machiny oblężnicze, aby zdobyć twierdzę. Już zaczynali z nimi walkę.
31 And Judas saw that the fight was begun, and the cry of the battle went up to heaven like a trumpet, and a great cry out of the city:	31 Gdy Juda zobaczył, że bitwa już zaczęta, a zgiełk z miasta od trąbienia i okrzyków wzniósł się aż do nieba,
32 And he said to his host: Fight ye to day for your brethren.	32 powiedział do żołnierzy swego wojska: Walczcie dzisiaj w obronie swych braci!
33 And he came with three companies behind them, and they sounded their trumpets, and cried out in prayer.	33 Trzema oddziałami zaszedł ich od tyłu, podczas gdy grano na trąbach i głośno odmawiano modlitwy.
34 And the host of Timotheus understood that it was Machabeus, and they fled away before his face: and they made a great slaughter of them: and there fell of them in that day almost eight thousand men.	34 Wtedy wojsko Tymoteusza poznało, że to jest Machabeusz, i uciekło przed nim. On zaś zadał im wielką klęskę, gdyż tego dnia padło spomiędzy nich blisko osiem tysięcy żołnierzy.
35 And Judas turned aside to Maspha, and assaulted, and took it, and he slew every male thereof, and took the spoils thereof, and burnt it with fire.	35 Wtedy zwrócił się w stronę Alema, uderzył na nie i zdobył. Wszystkich mężczyzn zabił mieczem, zabrał wszystkie łupy na nich zdobyte, a miasto spalił.
36 From thence he marched, and took Casbon, and Mageth, and Bosor, and the rest of the cities of Galaad.	36 Gdy odszedł stamtąd, zdobył Kasfo, Maked, Bosor i inne miasta Gileadu.
37 But after this Timotheus gathered another army, and camped over against Raphon beyond the torrent.	37 Po tych wszystkich wypadkach Tymoteusz zebrał inne wojsko i rozłożył się obozem pod Rafon, z drugiej strony potoku.
38 And Judas sent men to view the army: and they brought him word, saying: All the nations, that are round about us, are assembled unto him an army exceeding great:	38 Juda zaś wysłał wywiadowców, aby obejrzeli obóz, a oni mu donieśli: Do niego ściągnęły wszystkie okoliczne narody, wojsko bardzo liczne.
39 And they have hired the Arabians to help them, and they have pitched their tents beyond the torrent, ready to come to fight against thee. And Judas went to meet them.	39 Nawet Arabów najęto, aby im pomagali. Rozłożyli się obozem po drugiej stronie potoku i są gotowi wyjść do bitwy z tobą. Juda wyruszył przeciwko nim.
40 And Timotheus said to the captains of his army: When Judas and his army come near the torrent of water, if he pass over unto us first, we shall not be able to withstand him: for he will certainly prevail over us.	40 Gdy Juda z wojskiem zbliżał się do potoku, Tymoteusz powiedział do dowódców swego wojska: Jeżeli on pierwszy przejdzie do nas, nie będziemy mogli mu się oprzeć, gdyż z pewnością nas pokona.
41 But if he be afraid to pass over, and camp on the other side of the river, we will pass over to them and shall prevail against him.	41 Jeżeli jednak będzie się obawiał i z tamtej strony rzeki rozłoży się obozem, wtedy przeprawimy się do niego i pokonamy go.
42 Now when Judas came near the torrent of water, he set the scribes of the people by the torrent, and commanded them, saying: Suffer no man to stay behind: but let all come to the battle.	42 Gdy Juda zbliżył się do potoku, nad jego brzegiem postawił pisarzy i rozkazał im: Nie pozwalajcie, żeby ktokolwiek się zatrzymywał, wszyscy niech idą do walki!
43 And he passed over to them first, and all the people after him, and all the heathens were discomfited before them, and they threw away their weapons, and fled to the temple that was in Carnaim.	43 Sam pierwszy przeprawił się na ich brzeg, a za nim cały lud. Wszyscy poganie zostali przed nimi starci do tego stopnia, że porzucili swą broń i uciekli na dziedziniec świątyni w Karnain,
44 And he took that city, and the temple he burnt with fire, with all things that were therein: and Carnaim was subdued, and could not stand against the face of Judas.	44 ale oni miasto zdobyli i świątynię spalili razem z tymi, którzy w niej byli. Karnain zostało pokonane i nie mogło się już Judzie przeciwstawić.
45 And Judas gathered together all the Israelites that were in the land of Galaad, from the least even to the greatest, and their wives, and children, and an army exceeding great, to come into the land of Juda.	45 Wtedy Juda zebrał wszystkich Izraelitów, którzy mieszkali w Gileadzie, od najmniejszego aż do największego, razem z żonami, dziećmi i mieniem - bardzo wielki obóz - aby się udać do ziemi judzkiej.
46 And they came as far as Ephron: now this was a great city situate in the way, strongly fortified, and there was no means to turn from it on the right hand or on the left, but the way was through the midst of it.	46 Przybyli do Efron, a było to miasto wielkie i bardzo mocne, położone w przejściu, i nie można było zboczyć ani na prawo, ani na lewo, aby je ominąć; trzeba było przejść przez jego środek.
47 And they that were in the city, shut themselves in, and stopped up the gates with stones: and Judas sent to them with peaceable words,	47 Mieszkańcy miasta jednak zamknęli się i bramy zabarykadowali kamieniami.
48 Saying: Let us pass through your land, to go into our country: and no man shall hurt you: we will only pass through on foot. But they would not open to them.	48 Juda wysłał do nich poselstwo i przemawiał do nich przyjaznymi słowami: Przejdziemy przez twoją ziemię, idziemy bowiem do swego kraju. Nikt wam nic złego nie uczyni, tylko pieszo przejdziemy. Nie chcieli mu jednak otworzyć.
49 Then Judas commanded proclamation to be made in the camp, that they should make an assault every man in the place where he was.	49 Juda więc polecił ogłosić wojsku rozkaz, że każdy ma iść do natarcia z tego miejsca, na którym stoi.
50 And the men of the army drew near, and he assaulted that city all the day, and all the night, and the city was delivered into his hands:	50 Ci więc ludzie, którzy należeli do wojska, rozpoczęli bitwę. Cały dzień i całą noc trwała walka przeciw miastu, aż miasto wpadło w jego ręce.
51 And they slew every male with the edge of the sword, and he razed the city, and took the spoils thereof, and passed through all the city over them that were slain.	51 Wtedy wszystkich mężczyzn zabił ostrzem miecza, miasto doszczętnie zburzył, zabrał łupy na nim zdobyte i po trupach przeszedł przez miasto.
52 Then they passed over the Jordan to the great plain that is over against Bethsan.	52 Potem przeszli przez Jordan na wielką równinę pod Bet-Szean.
53 And Judas gathered together the hindmost, and he exhorted the people all the way through, till they came into the land of Juda.	53 Juda zaś do pochodu dołączył tych, którzy pozostawali z tyłu, i przez całą drogę dodawał ludowi odwagi tak długo, aż przyszli do ziemi judzkiej.
54 And they went up to mount Sion with joy and gladness, and offered holocausts, because not one of them was slain, till they had returned in peace.	54 Z największą radością weszli na górę Syjon i przyprowadzili zwierzęta na całopalenia, bo nikt z nich nie zginął, aż powrócili w pokoju.
55 Now in the days that Judas and Jonathan were in the land of Galaad, and Simon his brother in Galilee before Ptolemais,	55 W tym czasie, kiedy Juda i Jonatan byli w ziemi gileadzkiej i kiedy ich brat Szymon był w Galilei pod Ptolemaidą,
56 Joseph the son of Zacharias, and Azarias captain of the soldiers, heard of the good success, and the battles that were fought.	56 dowódcy wojska, Józef, syn Zachariasza, i Azariasz dowiedzieli się o bohaterskich czynach, jakich tamci dokonali w czasie wojny.
57 And he said: Let us also get us a name, and let us go fight against the Gentiles that are round about us.	57 Powiedzieli więc: My także powinniśmy zdobyć sobie sławę. Pójdziemy i będziemy walczyć z okolicznymi narodami.
58 And he gave charge to them that were in his army, and they went towards Jamnia.	58 Wtedy wydali rozkaz wojsku, które było z nimi, i wyruszyli przeciw Jamnii.
59 And Gorgias and his men went out of the city, to give them battle.	59 Ale Gorgiasz i jego żołnierze wyszli z miasta do walki przeciwko nim.
60 And Joseph and Azarias were put to flight, and were pursued unto the borders of Judea: and there fell, on that day, of the people of Israel about two thousand men, and there was a great overthrow of the people:	60 Józef i Azariasz zostali zmuszeni do odwrotu i ścigano ich aż do granic judejskich, a tego dnia spomiędzy ludu izraelskiego padło blisko dwa tysiące żołnierzy.
61 Because they did not hearken to Judas, and his brethren, thinking that they should do manfully.	61 Lud poniósł wielką klęskę, bo nie słuchali Judy i jego braci, sądząc, że się wsławią męstwem,
62 But they were not of the seed of those men by whom salvation was brought to Israel.	62 a przecież oni nie pochodzili z rodu tych mężów, przez których ręce zostało dane Izraelowi ocalenie.
63 And the men of Juda were magnified exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and of all the nations where their name was heard.	63 A bohater, Juda, i jego bracia mieli bardzo wielką chwałę u całego Izraela i u wszystkich narodów, gdziekolwiek dowiedziano się o ich imieniu.
64 And people assembled to them with joyful acclamations.	64 Gromadzono się u nich z życzeniami.
65 Then Judas and his brethren went forth and attacked the children of Esau, in the land toward the south, and he took Chebron, and her towns: and he burnt the walls thereof and the towers all round it.	65 Juda i jego bracia wyruszyli jeszcze i walczyli przeciwko synom Ezawa w kraju, który leży na południe. Zdobył Hebron i przynależne miejscowości, zburzył jego umocnienia, a wieże wokoło spalił.
66 And he removed his camp to go into the land of the aliens, and he went through Samaria.	66 Potem wybrał się w drogę do ziemi Filistynów i przeszedł przez Marissę.
67 In that day some priests fell in battle, while desiring to do manfully they went out unadvisedly to fight.	67 W tym czasie padli w walce kapłani, którzy chcieli się wsławić męstwem i nierozważnie poszli do walki.
68 And Judas turned to Azotus into the land of the strangers, and he threw down their altars, and he burnt the statues of their gods with fire: and he took the spoils of the cities, and returned into the land of Juda.	68 Juda zwrócił się jeszcze w stronę Azotu, który leży na ziemi Filistynów, zburzył ich ołtarze, spalił posągi ich bogów, z miast zabrał łupy i wtedy dopiero powrócił do ziemi judzkiej.
