Exodus 33

DOUAI-RHEIMS	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: God, get thee up from this place, thou and thy people which thou has brought out of the land of Egypt, into the land concerning which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying: To thy seed I will give it.	1 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Vete de aquí, tú y el pueblo que hiciste salir de Egipto, y sube al país que yo prometí con un juramento a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, cuando les aseguré que daría esa tierra a sus descendientes.
2 And I will send an angel before thee, that I may cast out the Chanaanite, and the Amorrhite, and the Hethite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite.	2 Yo enviaré un ángel delante de ti, y expulsaré a los cananeos, los amorreos, los hititas, los perizitas, los jivitas y los jebuseos,
3 That thou mayst enter into the land that floweth with milk and honey. For I will not go up with thee, because thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I destroy thee in the way.	3 para que puedas entrar en la tierra que mana leche y miel. Pero yo no subiré en medio de ti, porque tú eres un pueblo obstinado, y tendría que exterminarte en el camino».
4 And the people hearing these very bad tidings, mourned: and no man put on his ornaments according to custom.	4 Al oír esta severa advertencia, el pueblo estuvo de duelo y nadie se puso sus adornos.
5 And the Lord said to Moses: Say to the children of Israel: Thou are a stiffnecked people; once I shall come up in the midst of thee, and shall destroy thee. Now presently lay aside thy ornaments, that I may know what to do with thee.	5 Luego el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Di a los israelitas: «Ustedes son un pueblo obstinado. Bastaría que yo subiera un solo instante en medio de ustedes, para tener que exterminarlos. Ahora quítense sus adornos, y después veré qué hago con ustedes».
6 So the children of Israel laid aside their ornaments by mount Horeb.	6 Entonces los israelitas se despojaron de sus adornos, desde el momento en que partieron del monte Horeb.
7 Moses also taking the tabernacle, pitched it without the camp afar off, and called the name thereof, The tabernacle of the covenant. And all the people that had any question, went forth to the tabernacle of the covenant, without the camp.	7 Moisés tomó la Carpa. la instaló fuera del campamento, a una cierta distancia, y la llamó Carpa del Encuentro. Así, todo el que tenía que consultar al Señor debía dirigirse a la Carpa del Encuentro, que estaba fuera del campamento.
8 And when Moses went forth to the tabernacle, all the people rose up, and every one stood in the door of his pavilion, and they beheld the back of Moses, till he went into the tabernacle.	8 Siempre que Moisés se dirigía hacia la Carpa, todo el pueblo se levantaba, se apostaba a la entrada de su propia carpa y seguía con la mirada a Moisés hasta que él entraba en ella.
9 And when he was gone into the tabernacle of the covenant, the pillar of the cloud came down, and stood at the door, and he spoke with Moses.	9 Cuando Moisés entraba, la columna de nube bajaba y se detenía a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro, mientras el Señor conversaba con Moisés.
10 And all saw that the pillar of the cloud stood at the door of the tabernacle. And they stood, and worshipped at the doors of their tents.	10 Al ver la columna de nube, todo el pueblo se levantaba, y luego cada uno se postraba a la entrada de su propia carpa.
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man is wont to speak to his friend. And when he returned into the camp, his servant Josue the son of Nun, a young man, departed not from the tabernacle.	11 El Señor conversaba con Moisés cara a cara, como lo hace un hombre con su amigo. Después Moisés regresaba al campamento, pero Josué –hijo de Nun, su joven ayudante– no se apartaba del interior de la Carpa.
12 And Moses said to the Lord; Thou commandest me to lead forth this people: and thou dost not let me know whom thou wilt send with me, especially whereas thou hast said: I know thee by name, and thou hast found favour in my sight.	12 Moisés dijo al Señor: «Tú me ordenas que guíe a este pueblo, pero no me has indicado a quién enviarás conmigo, a pesar de que me dijiste: «Yo te conozco por tu nombre y te he brindado mi amistad».
13 If therefore I have found favour in thy sight, show me thy face, that I may know thee, and may find grace before thy eyes: look upon thy people this nation.	13 Si me has brindado tu amistad, dame a conocer tus caminos, y yo te conoceré: así me habrás brindado realmente tu amistad. Ten presente que esta nación es tu pueblo».
14 And the Lord said: My face shall go before thee, and I will give thee rest.	14 El Señor respondió: «Yo mismo iré contigo y te daré el descanso».
15 And Moses said: If thou thyself dost not go before, bring us not out of this place.	15 Moisés agregó: «Si no vienes personalmente, no nos hagas subir de aquí
16 For how shall we be able to know, I and thy people, that we have found grace in thy sight, unless thou walk with us, that we may be glorified by all people that dwell upon the earth?	16 ¿Cómo se podrá conocer que yo y tu pueblo gozamos de tu amistad, si tú no vienes con nosotros? Así yo y tu pueblo nos distinguiremos de todos los otros pueblos que hay sobre la tierra».
17 And the Lord said to Moses: This word also, which thou hast spoken, will I do: for thou hast found grace before me, and thee I have known by name.	17 El Señor respondió a Moisés: «También haré lo que me acabas de decir, porque te he brindado mi amistad y te conozco por tu nombre».
18 And he said: Shew me thy glory.	18 Moisés dijo: «Por favor, muéstrame tu gloria».
19 He answered: I will shew thee all good, and I will proclaim in the name of the Lord before thee: and I will have mercy on whom I will, and I will be merciful to whom it shall please me.	19 El Señor le respondió: «Yo haré pasar junto a ti toda mi bondad y pronunciaré delante de ti el nombre del Señor, porque yo concedo mi favor a quien quiero concederlo y me compadezco de quien quiero compadecerme.
20 And again he said: Thou canst not see my face: for man shall not see me and live.	20 Pero tú no puedes ver mi rostro, añadió, porque ningún hombre puede verme y seguir viviendo».
21 And again he said: Behold there is a place with me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock.	21 Luego el Señor le dijo: «Aquí a mi lado tienes un lugar. Tú estarás de pie sobre la roca,
22 And when my glory shall pass, I will set thee in a hole of the rock, and protect thee with my right hand, till I pass:	22 y cuando pase mi gloria, yo te pondré en la hendidura de la roca y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que haya pasado.
23 And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face thou canst not see.	23 Después retiraré mi mano y tú verás mis espaldas. Pero nadie puede ver mi rostro».
