1 And when Joseph saw this, he fell upon his father's face weeping and kissing him.	1 Allora Giuseppe si gettò sulla faccia di suo padre e pianse su di lui e lo baciò.
2 And he commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father.	2 Poi Giuseppe ordinò ai medici ch'erano a suo servizio di imbalsamare suo padre. I medici imbalsamarono Israele,
3 And while they were fulfilling his commands, there passed forty days: for this was the manner with bodies that were embalmed, and Egypt mounted for him seventy days.	3 e ci vollero quaranta giorni, perché tanti se ne richiedono per l'imbalsamazione. Gli Egiziani lo piansero settanta giorni.
4 And the time of the mourning being expired, Joseph spoke to the family of Pharao: If I have found favour in your sight, speak in the ears of Pharao:	4 Passati i giorni del suo lutto, Giuseppe parlò alla corte del faraone: "Deh, se ho trovato grazia ai vostri occhi, vogliate riferire agli orecchi del faraone queste parole:
5 For my father made me swear to him, saying: Behold I die: thou shalt bury me in my sepulchre which I have digged for myself in the land of Chanaan. So I will go up and bury my father, and return.	5 Mio padre mi ha fatto giurare, dicendo: "Ecco, io sto per morire: tu devi seppellirmi nel mio sepolcro che mi sono scavato nella terra di Canaan". Permettimi dunque di salire ora a seppellire mio padre, poi ritornerò".
6 And Pharao said to him: Go up and bury thy father according as he made thee swear.	6 Il faraone rispose: "Sali e seppellisci tuo padre com'egli ti ha fatto giurare".
7 So he went up, and there went with him all the ancients of Pharao's house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,	7 Allora Giuseppe salì a seppellire suo padre e con lui salirono tutti i ministri del faraone, gli anziani della sua casa, tutti gli anziani della terra di Egitto,
8 And the house of Joseph with his brethren, except their children, and their flocks and herds, which they left in the land of Gessen.	8 tutta la casa di Giuseppe e i suoi fratelli e la casa di suo padre: lasciarono nella terra di Gosen soltanto i loro bambini e i loro greggi e i loro armenti.
9 He had also in his train chariots and horsemen: and it was it great company.	9 Con lui salirono pure i carri da guerra e la cavalleria, così da formare un corteggio imponente assai.
10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is situated beyond the Jordan: where celebrating the exequies with a great and vehement lamentation, they spent full seven days.	10 Giunti all'Aia di Atad, che è al di là del Giordano vi fecero grandi e profondissimi lamenti e Giuseppe celebrò per suo padre un lutto di sette giorni.
11 And when the inhabitants of Chanaan saw this, they said: This is a great mourning to the Egyptians. And therefore the name of that place was called, The mourning of Egypt.	11 I Cananei che abitavano il paese videro il lutto all'Aia di Atad e dissero: "E' un lutto grave questo per gli Egiziani". Per questo la si chiamò Abel-Mizraim, che si trova al di là del Giordano.
12 So the sons of Jacob did as he had commanded them.	12 Poi i suoi figli fecero per lui quello che egli aveva ordinato loro,
13 And carrying him into the land of Chanaan, they buried him in the double cave which Abraham had bought together with the held for a possession of a buryingplace, of Ephron the Hethite over against Mambre.	13 lo trasportarono nella terra di Canaan e lo seppellirono nella caverna del campo di Macpela, che Abramo aveva comperato col campo da Efron l'hittita come proprietà sepolcrale, e che si trova in faccia a Mamre.
14 And Joseph returned into Egypt with his brethren, and all that were in his company, after he had buried his father.	14 Poi, dopo aver sepolto suo padre, Giuseppe tornò in Egitto insieme con i suoi fratelli e con tutti quelli che erano saliti con lui a seppellire suo padre.
15 Now he being dead, his brethren were afraid, and talked one with another : Lest perhaps he should remember the wrong he suffered, and requite us all the evil that we did to him.	15 Ma i fratelli di Giuseppe incominciarono ad aver paura, dato che il loro padre era morto, e dissero: "Chissà se Giuseppe non ci tratterà da nemici e non ci renderà tutto il male che noi gli facemmo?".
16 And they sent a message to him, saying: Thy father commanded us before he died,	16 Allora mandarono a dire a Giuseppe: "Tuo padre, prima della sua morte ha dato quest'ordine:
17 That we should say thus much to thee from him: I beseech thee to forget the wickedness of thy brethren, and the sin and malice they practiced against thee: we also pray thee, to forgive the servants of the God of thy father this wickedness. And when Joseph heard this, he wept.	17 "Così direte a Giuseppe: Deh, perdona il delitto dei tuoi fratelli e il loro peccato, perché ti hanno fatto del male!". Or dunque, perdona il delitto dei servi del Dio di tuo padre!". Giuseppe pianse quando gli si parlò così.
18 And his brethren came to him: and worshipping prostrate on the ground they said: We are thy servants.	18 Poi andarono i suoi fratelli stessi e si gettarono a terra davanti a lui e dissero: "Eccoci tuoi schiavi!".
19 And he answered them: Fear not: can we resist the will of God?	19 Ma Giuseppe disse loro: "Non temete! Sono io forse al posto di Dio?
20 You thought evil against me: but God turned it into good, that he might exalt me, as at present you see, and might save many people.	20 Se voi avevate ordito del male contro di me, Dio ha pensato di farlo servire a un bene, per compiere quello che oggi si avvera: salvare la vita ad un popolo numeroso.
21 Fear not: I will feed you and your children. And he comforted them, and spoke gently and mildly.	21 Or dunque non temete, io provvederò al sostentamento per voi e per i vostri bambini". Così li consolò e fece loro coraggio.
22 And he dwelt in Egypt with all his father's house: and lived a hundred and ten years. And he saw the children of Ephraim to the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Ma-nasses were born on Joseph's knees.	22 Ora Giuseppe con la famiglia di suo padre abitò in Egitto; e Giuseppe visse centodieci anni.
23 After which he told his brethren: God will visit you after my death, and will make you go up out of this land, to the land which he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.	23 Così Giuseppe vide i figlioli di Efraim fino alla terza generazione, ed anche i figli di Machir, figlio di Manasse, nacquero sulle ginocchia di Giuseppe.
24 And he made them swear to him, saying: God will visit you, Carry my bones with you out of this place:	24 Poi Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: "Io sto per morire, ma Dio verrà certamente a visitarvi e vi farà salire da questa terra alla terra ch'egli ha promesso con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe".
25 And he died being a hundred and ten years old. And being embalmed he was laid in a coffin in Egypt.	25 Giuseppe fece giurare i figli di Israele in questi termini: "Dio verrà certamente a visitarvi, e allora voi porterete via di qui le mie ossa".
	26 Poi Giuseppe morì all'età di centodieci anni; lo imbalsamarono e fu posto in un sarcofago in Egitto.
