1 And Abraham married another wife, named Cetura:	1 Abramo prese un'altra moglie: essa aveva nome Chetura.
2 Who bore to him Zamran, and Jecsan, and Madan, and Madian, and Jesboc, and Sue.	2 Essa gli partorì Zimran, Ioksan, Medan, Madian, Isbak e Suach.
3 Jecsan also begot Saba and Dadan. The children of Dadan were Assurim, and Latusim, and Loomin.	3 Ioksan generò Saba e Dedan e i figli di Dedan furono gli Asurim, i Letusim e i Leummim.
4 But of Madian was born Epha, and Opher, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaa: all these were the children of Cetura.	4 I figli di Madian furono Efa, Efer, Enoch, Abida ed Eldaa. Tutti questi sono i figli di Chetura.
5 And Abraham gave all his possessions to Isaac.	5 Abramo diede tutti i suoi beni a Isacco.
6 And to the children of the concubines he gave gifts, and separated them from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, to the east country.	6 Quanto ai figli che Abramo aveva avuto dalle concubine, diede loro doni e, mentre era ancora in vita, li licenziò mandandoli lontano da Isacco suo figlio, verso oriente, nella terra d'oriente.
7 And the days of Abraham's life were a hundred and seventy-five years.	7 Questa è la durata della vita di Abramo: centosettantacinque anni.
8 And decaying he died in a good old age, and having lived a long time, and being full of days: and was gathered to his people.	8 Poi Abramo spirò e morì dopo una felice vecchiaia, vecchio e sazio di giorni e fu riunito ai suoi antenati.
9 And Isaac and Ismael his sons buried him in the double cave, which was situated in the field of Ephron the son of Seor the Hethite, over against Mambre;	9 Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Isacco e Ismaele nella caverna di Macpela, nel campo di Efron figlio di Socar, l'hittita, di fronte a Mamre.
10 Which he had bought of the children of Heth: there was he buried, and Sara his wife.	10 E' appunto il campo che Abramo aveva comprato dagli Hittiti. Ivi furono sepolti Abramo e Sara sua moglie.
11 And after his death, God blessed Isaac his son, who dwelt by the well named Of the living and seeing.	11 Dopo la morte di Abramo, Dio benedisse il figlio di lui Isacco; e Isacco abitò presso il pozzo di Lacai-Roi.
12 These are the generations of Ismael the son of Abraham, whom Agar the Egyptian, Sara's servant, bore unto him:	12 Questi sono i discendenti di Ismaele, figlio di Abramo, che Agar l'egiziana, schiava di Sara, gli aveva partorito.
13 And these are the names of his children according to their calling and generations. The firstborn of Ismael was Nabajoth, then Cedar, and Adbeel, and Mabsam.	13 Questi sono i nomi dei figli di Ismaele, con i loro nomi in ordine di generazione: il primogenito di Ismaele è Nebaiòt, poi Kedar, Adbeèl, Mibsam,
14 And Masma, and Duma, and Massa,	14 Misma, Duma, Massa,
15 Hadar, and Thema, and Jethur, and Naphis, and Cedma.	15 Adad, Tema, Ietur, Nafis, Kedma.
16 These are the sons of Ismael: and these are their names by their castles and towns, twelve princes of their tribes.	16 Questi sono i figli di Ismaele e questi sono i nomi loro e dei loro attendamenti e accampamenti. Sono i dodici principi delle relative genti.
17 And the years of Ismael's life were a hundred and thirty-seven, and decaying he died, and was gathered unto his people.	17 E questi sono gli anni di vita di Ismaele: centotrentasette anni; poi spirò e morì e fu riunito ai suoi antenati.
18 And he dwelt from Hevila as far as Sur, which looketh towards Egypt, to them that go towards the Assyrians. He died in the presence of all his brethren.	18 Egli abitò da Avila fino a Sur, che è lungo il confine dell'Egitto, in direzione di Assur. Egli si era accampato di fronte a tutti i propri fratelli.
19 These also are the generations of Isaac the son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac:	19 Questa è la storia della discendenza di Isacco, figlio di Abramo. Abramo aveva generato Isacco.
20 Who when he was forty years old, took to wife Rebecca the daughter of Bathuel the Syrian of Mesopotamia, sister to Laban.	20 Isacco aveva quarant'anni quando prese per sé Rebecca, figlia di Betuèl, l'arameo di Paddan-Aram e sorella di Làbano l'arameo.
21 And Isaac besought the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and he heard him, and made Rebecca to conceive.	21 Isacco supplicò il Signore per sua moglie, perché essa era sterile, e il Signore lo esaudì, cosicché Rebecca sua moglie divenne incinta.
22 But the children struggled in her womb: and she said: If it were to be so with me, what need was there to conceive? And she went to consult the Lord.	22 Se non che i figli si pressavano l'un l'altro dentro di lei, ond'ella disse: "Se è così, perché questo?...". E andò a consultare il Signore.
23 And he answering said: Two nations are in thy womb, and two peoples shall be divided out of thy womb, and one people shall overcome the other, and the elder shall serve the younger.	23 Il Signore rispose: "Due clan nel tuo ventre e due popoli dalle tue viscere si separeranno. Un popolo prevarrà sull'altro popolo e il maggiore servirà il minore".
24 And when her time was come to be delivered, behold twins were found in her womb.	24 Quando poi si fu compiuto per lei il tempo in cui doveva partorire, ecco che due gemelli le stavano nel ventre.
25 He that came forth first was red, and hairy like a skin: and his name was called Esau. Immediately the other coming forth, held his brother's foot in his hand, and therefore he was called Jacob.	25 Il primo uscì rossiccio, come un peloso mantello, e lo chiamarono Esaù.
26 Isaac was threescore years old when the children were born unto him.	26 Subito dopo uscì suo fratello nell'atto di tenere con la mano il calcagno di Esaù, e lo si chiamò Giacobbe. Isacco aveva sessant'anni, alla loro nascita.
27 And when they were grown up, Esau became a skillful hunter, and a husbandman, but Jacob a plain man dwelt in tents.	27 I fanciulli crebbero. Esaù divenne un uomo assuefatto alla caccia, un uomo della steppa, mentre Giacobbe era un uomo tranquillo, che dimorava sotto le tende.
28 Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his hunting: and Rebecca loved Jacob.	28 Isacco prese ad amare Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto, mentre Rebecca amava Giacobbe.
29 And Jacob boiled Pottage: to whom Esau, coming faint out of the field,	29 Una volta che Giacobbe aveva fatto cuocere una minestra, arrivò Esaù dalla steppa tutto trafelato.
30 Said: Give me of this red pottage, for I am exceeding faint. For which reason his name was called Edom.	30 Allora Esaù disse a Giacobbe: "Fammi trangugiare, per carità, un po' di questa minestra rossa, perché io sono sfinito!". Per questo fu chiamato il suo nome Edom.
31 And Jacob said to him: Sell me thy first birthright.	31 Giacobbe rispose: "Anzitutto vendi la tua primogenitura a me".
32 He answered: Lo I die, what will the first birthright avail me.	32 Di rimando Esaù: "Eccomi sul punto di morire, e a che cosa mi vale una primogenitura?".
33 Jacob said: Swear therefore to me. Esau swore to him, and sold his first birthright.	33 Giacobbe allora disse: "Giuramelo immediatamente!". E quello glielo giurò e vendette la sua primogenitura a Giacobbe.
34 And so taking bread and the pottage of lentils, he ate, and drank, and went his way; making little account of having sold his first birthright.	34 Giacobbe diede allora a Esaù pane e minestra di lenticchie. Quello mangiò, bevve, poi si levò andandosene. Tanto poco stimò Esaù la primogenitura!
