Lettera di Giacomo 1

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 GIACOMO, servitor di Dio, e del Signor Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù, che son nella dispersione; salute	1 From James, servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. Greetings to the twelve tribes of theDispersion.
2 REPUTATE compiuta allegrezza, fratelli miei, quando sarete caduti in diverse tentazioni;	2 My brothers, consider it a great joy when trials of many kinds come upon you,
3 sapendo che la prova della vostra fede produce pazienza.	3 for you wel know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and
4 Or abbia la pazienza un’opera compiuta; acciocchè voi siate compiuti ed intieri, non mancando di nulla.	4 perseverance must complete its work so that you wil become ful y developed, complete, not deficient inany way.
5 Che se alcun di voi manca di sapienza, chieggala a Dio, che dona a tutti liberalmente, e non fa onta, e gli sarà donata.	5 Any of you who lacks wisdom must ask God, who gives to al generously and without scolding; it wil begiven.
6 Ma chieggala in fede, senza star punto in dubbio; perciocchè chi sta in dubbio è simile al fiotto del mare, agitato dal vento e dimenato.	6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is likethe waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.
7 Imperocchè, non pensi già quel tal uomo di ricever nulla dal Signore;	7 That sort of person, in two minds,
8 essendo uomo doppio di cuore, instabile in tutte le sue vie.	8 inconsistent in every activity, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
9 Or il fratello che è in basso stato si glorii della sua altezza.	9 It is right that the brother in humble circumstances should glory in being lifted up,
10 E il ricco, della sua bassezza; perciocchè egli trapasserà come fior d’erba.	10 and the rich in being brought low. For the rich wil last no longer than the wild flower;
11 Imperocchè, come quando è levato il sole con l’arsura, egli ha tosto seccata l’erba, e il suo fiore è caduto, e la bellezza della sua apparenza è perita, così ancora si appasserà il ricco nelle sue vie.	11 the scorching sun comes up, and the grass withers, its flower falls, its beauty is lost. It is the samewith the rich: in the middle of a busy life, the rich wil wither.
12 Beato l’uomo che sopporta la tentazione; perciocchè, essendosi reso approvato, egli riceverà la corona della vita, la quale il Signore ha promessa a coloro che l’amano	12 Blessed is anyone who perseveres when trials come. Such a person is of proven worth and will winthe prize of life, the crown that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
13 Niuno, essendo tentato, dica: Io son tentato da Dio; poichè Iddio non può esser tentato di mali, e altresì non tenta alcuno.	13 Never, when you are being put to the test, say, 'God is tempting me'; God cannot be tempted by evil,and he does not put anybody to the test .
14 Ma ciascuno è tentato, essendo attratto e adescato dalla propria concupiscenza.	14 Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person's own wrong desire.
15 Poi appresso, la concupiscenza, avendo conceputo, partorisce il peccato; e il peccato, essendo compiuto, genera la morte.	15 Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches ful growth, it gives birth todeath.
16 Non errate, fratelli miei diletti:	16 Make no mistake about this, my dear brothers:
17 ogni buona donazione, ed ogni dono perfetto, è da alto, discendendo dal padre dei lumi, nel quale non vi è mutamento, nè ombra di cambiamento.	17 al that is good, al that is perfect, is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of al light;with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow caused by change.
18 Egli ci ha di sua volontà generati per la parola della verità, acciocchè siamo in certo modo le primizie delle sue creature	18 By his own choice he gave birth to us by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all his creation.
19 PERCIÒ, fratelli miei diletti, sia ogni uomo pronto all’udire, tardo al parlare, lento all’ira.	19 Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen but slow to speak and slow tohuman anger;
20 Perciocchè l’ira dell’uomo non mette in opera la giustizia di Dio.	20 God's saving justice is never served by human anger;
21 Perciò, deposta ogni lordura, e feccia di malizia, ricevete con mansuetudine la parola innestata in voi, la quale può salvar le anime vostre.	21 so do away with al impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has beenplanted in you and can save your souls.
22 E siate facitori della parola, e non solo uditori; ingannando voi stessi.	22 But you must do what the Word tel s you and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves.
23 Perciocchè, se alcuno è uditor della parola, e non facitore, egli è simile ad un uomo che considera la sua natia faccia in uno specchio.	23 Anyone who listens to the Word and takes no action is like someone who looks at his own features ina mirror and,
24 Imperocchè, dopo ch’egli si è mirato, egli se ne va, e subito ha dimenticato quale egli fosse.	24 once he has seen what he looks like, goes off and immediately forgets it.
25 Ma chi avrà riguardato bene addentro nella legge perfetta, che è la legge della libertà, e sarà perseverato; esso, non essendo uditore dimentichevole, ma facitor dell’opera, sarà beato nel suo operare.	25 But anyone who looks steadily at the perfect law of freedom and keeps to it -- not listening andforgetting, but putting it into practice -- will be blessed in every undertaking.
26 Se alcuno pare esser religioso fra voi, e non tiene a freno la sua lingua, ma seduce il cuor suo, la religion di quel tale è vana.	26 Nobody who fails to keep a tight rein on the tongue can claim to be religious; this is mere self-deception; that person's religion is worthless.
27 La religione pura ed immacolata, dinanzi a Dio e Padre, è questa; visitar gli orfani, e le vedove, nelle loro afflizioni; e conservarsi puro dal mondo	27 Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans andwidows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.
