| 1 PERCIOCCHÈ, il regno de’ cieli è simile ad un padron di casa, il quale, in sul far del dì, uscì fuori, per condurre e prezzo de’ lavoratori, per mandarli nella sua vigna. | 1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. |
| 2 E convenutosi co’ lavoratori in un denaro al dì, li mandò nella sua vigna. | 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. |
| 3 Poi, uscito intorno alle tre ore, ne vide altri che stavano in su la piazza scioperati. | 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place; |
| 4 Ed egli disse loro: Andate voi ancora nella vigna, ed io vi darò ciò che sarà ragionevole. Ed essi andarono. | 4 and to them he said, 'You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went. |
| 5 Poi, uscito ancora intorno alle sei, ed alle nove ore, fece il simigliante. | 5 Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. |
| 6 Ora, uscito ancora intorno alle undici ore, ne trovò degli altri che se ne stavano scioperati, ed egli disse loro: Perchè ve ne state qui tutto il dì scioperati? | 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?' |
| 7 Essi gli dissero: Perciocchè niuno ci ha condotti a prezzo. Egli disse loro: Andate voi ancora nella vigna, e riceverete ciò che sarà ragionevole. | 7 They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You go into the vineyard too.' |
| 8 Poi, fattosi sera, il padron della vigna disse al suo fattore: Chiama i lavoratori, e paga loro il salario, cominciando dagli ultimi fino a’ primi. | 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.' |
| 9 Allora quei delle undici ore vennero, e ricevettero un denaro per uno. | 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. |
| 10 Poi vennero i primi, i quali pensavano di ricever più, ma ricevettero anch’essi un denaro per uno. | 10 Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius. |
| 11 E, ricevutolo, mormoravano contro al padron di casa, dicendo: | 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder, |
| 12 Questi ultimi han lavorato solo un’ora, e tu li hai fatti pari a noi, che abbiam portata la gravezza del dì, e l’arsura. | 12 saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' |
| 13 Ma egli, rispondendo, disse all’un di loro: Amico, io non ti fo alcun torto; non ti convenisti tu meco in un denaro? | 13 But he replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? |
| 14 Prendi ciò che ti appartiene, e vattene; ma io voglio dare a quest’ultimo quanto a te. | 14 Take what belongs to you, and go; I choose to give to this last as I give to you. |
| 15 Non mi è egli lecito di far ciò che io voglio del mio? l’occhio tuo è egli maligno, perciocchè io son buono? | 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?' |
| 16 Così, gli ultimi saranno primi, e i primi ultimi; perciocchè molti son chiamati, ma pochi eletti | 16 So the last will be first, and the first last." |
| 17 POI Gesù, salendo in Gerusalemme, tratti da parte i suoi dodici discepoli nel cammino, disse loro: | 17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, |
| 18 Ecco, noi saliamo in Gerusalemme, e il Figliuol dell’uomo sarà dato in man dei principali sacerdoti, e degli Scribi, ed essi lo condanneranno a morte. | 18 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, |
| 19 E lo metteranno nelle mani de’ Gentili, da schernirlo, e flagellarlo, e crocifiggerlo, ma egli risusciterà nel terzo giorno | 19 and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day." |
| 20 Allora la madre de’ figliuoli di Zebedeo si accostò a lui, co’ suoi figliuoli, adorandolo, e chiedendogli qualche cosa. | 20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. |
| 21 Ed egli le disse: Che vuoi? Ella gli disse: Ordina che questi miei due figliuoli seggano l’uno alla tua destra, l’altro alla sinistra, nel tuo regno. | 21 And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." |
| 22 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse: Voi non sapete ciò che vi chieggiate; potete voi bere il calice che io berrò, ed essere battezzati del battesimo del quale io sarò battezzato? Essi gli dissero: Sì, lo possiamo. | 22 But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." |
| 23 Ed egli disse loro: Voi certo berrete il mio calice, e sarete battezzati del battesimo del quale io sarò battezzato; ma, quant’è al sedere alla mia destra, o alla sinistra, non istà a me il darlo; ma sarà dato a coloro a cui è preparato dal Padre mio. | 23 He said to them, "You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." |
| 24 E gli altri dieci, avendo ciò udito, furono indegnati di que’ due fratelli. | 24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. |
| 25 E Gesù, chiamatili a sè, disse: Voi sapete che i principi delle genti le signoreggiano, e che i grandi usano podestà sopra esse. | 25 But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. |
| 26 Ma non sarà così fra voi; anzi chiunque fra voi vorrà divenir grande sia vostro ministro; | 26 It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, |
| 27 e chiunque fra voi vorrà esser primo sia vostro servitore. | 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; |
| 28 Siccome il Figliuol dell’uomo non è venuto per esser servito, anzi per servire, e per dar l’anima sua per prezzo di riscatto per molti | 28 even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." |
| 29 OR uscendo essi di Gerico, una gran moltitudine lo seguitò. | 29 And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him. |
| 30 Ed ecco, due ciechi, che sedevano presso della via, avendo udito che Gesù passava, gridarono, dicendo: Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, Figliuol di Davide! | 30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the roadside, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" |
| 31 Ma la moltitudine li sgridava, acciocchè tacessero; ma essi vie più gridavano, dicendo: Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, Figliuolo di Davide. | 31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent; but they cried out the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" |
| 32 E Gesù, fermatosi, li chiamò, e disse: Che volete ch’io vi faccia? | 32 And Jesus stopped and called them, saying, "What do you want me to do for you?" |
| 33 Essi gli dissero: Signore, che gli occhi nostri sieno aperti. | 33 They said to him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened." |
| 34 E Gesù, mosso a pietà, toccò gli occhi loro, e incontanente gli occhi loro ricoverarono la vista, ed essi lo seguitarono | 34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed him. |
