| 1 LA parola che fu dal Signore indirizzata a Geremia, dicendo: | 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: |
| 2 Ascoltate le parole di questo patto, e parlate agli uomini di Giuda, ed agli abitanti di Gerusalemme. | 2 "Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
| 3 E tu di’ loro: Così ha detto il Signore Iddio d’Israele: Maledetto l’uomo, che non ascolterà le parole di questo patto; | 3 You shall say to them, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man who does not heed the words of this covenant |
| 4 il quale io comandai a’ padri vostri di osservare, quando li trassi fuor del paese di Egitto, della fornace di ferro, dicendo: Ascoltate la mia voce, e fate queste cose, secondo tutto quello che io vi comando; e voi mi sarete popolo, ed io vi sarò Dio. | 4 which I commanded your fathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Listen to my voice, and do all that I command you. So shall you be my people, and I will be your God, |
| 5 Acciocchè io metta ad effetto il giuramento che io feci a’ vostri padri, di dar loro un paese stillante latte e miele; come si vede al dì d’oggi. Ed io risposi, e dissi: Amen, Signore. | 5 that I may perform the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day." Then I answered, "So be it, LORD." |
| 6 Appresso il Signore mi disse: Predica tutte queste parole nelle città di Giuda, e nelle piazze di Gerusalemme: dicendo: Ascoltate le parole di questo patto, e mettetele ad effetto. | 6 And the LORD said to me, "Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: Hear the words of this covenant and do them. |
| 7 Conciossiachè io abbia fatte di gran protestazioni a’ vostri padri, dal dì che io li trassi fuor del paese di Egitto, infino a questo giorno, protestando loro ogni giorno, fin dalla mattina, e dicendo: Ascoltate la mia voce. | 7 For I solemnly warned your fathers when I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, warning them persistently, even to this day, saying, Obey my voice. |
| 8 Ma essi non l’hanno ascoltata, e non hanno porto l’orecchio loro, e son camminati ciascuno secondo la durezza del cuor suo malvagio; laonde io ho fatte venir sopra loro tutte le parole di questo patto, il quale io avea lor comandato di osservare; ma non l’hanno osservato. | 8 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but every one walked in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not." |
| 9 Poi il Signore mi disse: Ei si trova una congiura fra gli uomini di Giuda, e fra gli abitanti di Gerusalemme. | 9 Again the LORD said to me, "There is revolt among the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
| 10 Son tornati alle iniquità de’ lor padri antichi, i quali ricusarono di ascoltar le mie parole; e sono anch’essi andati dietro ad altri dii, per servirli; la casa d’Israele e la casa di Giuda hanno rotto il mio patto, che io avea fatto co’ lor padri | 10 They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers. |
| 11 Perciò, cosi ha detto il Signore: Ecco, io fo venir sopra loro un male, del quale non potranno uscire, e grideranno a me, ma io non li ascolterò. | 11 Therefore, thus says the LORD, Behold, I am bringing evil upon them which they cannot escape; though they cry to me, I will not listen to them. |
| 12 Allora le città di Giuda, e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, andranno, e grideranno agl’iddii, a’ quali fanno profumi; ma essi non li salveranno in modo alcuno, nel tempo della loro avversità. | 12 Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they cannot save them in the time of their trouble. |
| 13 Perciocchè, o Giuda, tu hai avuti tanti dii, quanto è il numero delle tue città; e voi avete rizzati tanti altari alla cosa vergognosa, quanto è il numero delle strade di Gerusalemme; altari da far profumi a Baal. | 13 For your gods have become as many as your cities, O Judah; and as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up to shame, altars to burn incense to Baal. |
| 14 Tu adunque non pregar per questo popolo, e non prendere a gridare, nè a fare orazion per loro; perciocchè io non li esaudirò, quando grideranno a me per la loro avversità. | 14 "Therefore do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer on their behalf, for I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their trouble. |
| 15 Che ha da far più il mio caro amico nella mia Casa, piochè i maggiori l’impiegano a scelleratezza? Or le carni sacre trapasseranno via da te; perciocchè allora che tu commetti il tuo male, tu festeggi. | 15 What right has my beloved in my house, when she has done vile deeds? Can vows and sacrificial flesh avert your doom? Can you then exult? |
| 16 Il Signore avea chiamato il tuo nome: Ulivo verdeggiante, bello in vaghi frutti; ma, al suono di un grande stormo, egli ha acceso d’intorno a quello un fuoco, e i suoi rami sono stati consumati. | 16 The LORD once called you, 'A green olive tree, fair with goodly fruit'; but with the roar of a great tempest he will set fire to it, and its branches will be consumed. |
| 17 E il Signor degli eserciti, che ti avea piantata, ha pronunziato contro a te del male, per la malvagità della casa d’Israele, e della casa di Giuda, che han commessa per dispettarmi, facendo profumi a Baal | 17 The LORD of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil which the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done, provoking me to anger by burning incense to Baal." |
| 18 OR il Signore mi ha fatti conoscere i lor fatti, ed io li ho conosciuti; allora, Signore, tu me li hai mostrati. | 18 The LORD made it known to me and I knew; then thou didst show me their evil deeds. |
| 19 Ed io sono stato come un agnello, od un bue, che si mena al macello; ed io non sapeva che facessero delle macchinazioni contro a me, dicendo: Attossichiamo il suo cibo, e sterminiamolo dalla terra de’ viventi, e non sia il suo nome più ricordato. | 19 But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more." |
| 20 Ma, o Signor degli eserciti, giusto Giudice, che provi le reni, e il cuore, fa’ che io vegga la tua vendetta sopra loro; perciocchè io ti dichiaro la mia ragione. | 20 But, O LORD of hosts, who judgest righteously, who triest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance upon them, for to thee have I committed my cause. |
| 21 Perciò, così ha detto il Signore intorno a que’ di Anatot, che cercano l’anima tua, dicendo: Non profetizzar nel Nome del Signore, che tu non muoia per le nostre mani; | 21 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, and say, "Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hand"-- |
| 22 perciò così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti: Ecco, io ne farò punizione sopra loro; i giovani morranno per la spada; e i lor figliuoli e le lor figliuole morranno di fame. | 22 therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: "Behold, I will punish them; the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine; |
| 23 E non resterà di loro alcun rimanente; perciocchè io farò venire del male sopra que’ di Anatot, l’anno della lor visitazione | 23 and none of them shall be left. For I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, the year of their punishment." |
